What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Most of the leaves are down.  It's very crunchy now on our walks. The sun is still shining each day making this one of the kindest Autumns I can remember. Btw, we are on 10 acres here and the leaves I show you are on the trails and left as are. The only leaves we rake are the few around the front step area. Oh yes, and Hubby has a leaf blower he's very fond of using though usually for cleaning the garage floors.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday were glorious days that showcased perfect October weather. The sun shone all day and warmed the earth. It was pleasant enough to sit on the veranda and stitch.

 I watched leaves gently letting go and kept thinking of the word golden. Ned joined me, keeping a sharp eye on the squirrels and sniffing the air, enjoying autumn in an entirely different way. 

 On the wall now, sewn for a child perhaps...this hanging I bought at a thrift shop. I liked the maker's free style...three rows of mostly plain blocks with appliqued figures sewn over it. I thought the big eyed owls cute and the toadstool and mouse neat. Closer examination showed two pieces of fabric featuring horse backed riders in red coats. I like this primitive kind of improv style too and I'm glad I "rescued" it. Have you ever rescued a fellow stitcher's work too?

I don't make many indoor bouquets anymore even though that is something I enjoy having; I leave it for the bees and insects. But I couldn't resist the beautiful contrast of the purple Asters and the mustard yellow Goldenrod. There are three varieties of  autumn Asters here, pale blue and white as well as the purple New England Asters.

It felt like a quilt making day on Friday.  The walk early morning was one with a bracing wind in my face. 2C overnight but the wind definitely made it feel colder.  I was thankful I'd opted for ...

We had another tornado warning last week!

 The radar showed we were directly in its' path which was scary for a few hours. Unlike before, warnings were issued in a timely fashion so folks had time to pick their kids up at school and daughter and Robbie came right to our house. The idea was that our house is very solid with a good basement underground. It was an uneasy feeling watching the wind start to whip up. But at the last minute the storm path divided right around us, part moving south and part going north, remarkable to see ...

 So happy to be writing a Thursday things we like post.  Here is something I adore...Ned is now about 20 in dog years, fully grown, but he still tries to get in my lap. He will balance himself in the strangest poses just to stay for a little bit and get a good rub. 

Love the flowers that are blooming just now here in my corner of the world. This is a lilac bouquet I had at the farm. Though in bloom, my lone lilac tree here does not produce such fine flowers as the three at the farm ...

Here I am up at the farm years back planting Morning Glories along the back yard area that the dogs roamed in. Murphy was keeping pace with me as I moved along. These are seeds I would have germinated in the tiny green house attached to the barn. I enjoyed training the vines up that fence to cover it up. Happy Spring Memories!

Mother Nature is wearing winter white still here in our corner of the globe.  But with a promise of plus side temperatures later this week, the snow won't take too long to melt. (Says she hopefully)

Monday is a public holiday here and in many of the Canadian provinces, Family Day. It's a day for families to take a midwinter rest or get outside and enjoy winter fun together. This year there are lots of planned activities. We will be dog sitting as daughter and family take a little overnight trip.

I transplanted the White Polka Dot plant into my old teapot which is now a planter. It is doing well in it so far but I need to read up on how to prevent it from becoming "leggy". And I got out my finally completely finished appliqued Scrappy Hearts runner for this week. Pattern of my own multi-year making; I didn't mean it to be that way.  I just kept second guessing all my choices which is what I do when I'm not following along with an expert who knows what they're doing. 

  We have Ned's litter mate, Petey, here with us for a while and I've been making sure they have been getting lots of exercise and attention. Being Labradors, they both are needy when it comes to pats and rubs.  All joyful to the two of us as we are basically in isolation and this is a pleasant diversion. It's also like old times to have two dogs again. 

The tree was up and enjoyed for two days. As always Snowy Owl looked down from the very top and I loved the way the 8 year old decorator decided every single item had to be hung on it and that most of the lights hanging in one spot was especially pretty. 

 I tumbled down a rabbit hole this week I can tell you!! On a whim I decided to get out my scrappy Quilt Bible blocks and see what they looked like all together. The floor was the only space free to lay them out.  I'd already made the decision to use a light blue fabric for the sashing as Rosemary had used in her book. I figured she's the expert and actually I think it is working okay.
