Star Quilt Start, Men's Shirts Quilting, Kindest Autumn Ever from Canadian Needle Nana

Most of the leaves are down.  It's very crunchy now on our walks. The sun is still shining each day making this one of the kindest Autumns I can remember. Btw, we are on 10 acres here and the leaves I show you are on the trails and left as are. The only leaves we rake are the few around the front step area. Oh yes, and Hubby has a leaf blower he's very fond of using though usually for cleaning the garage floors.

Below, Tony and Ned glimpsed through the trees on one of the trails.  The ...

Quilt Block Test, Thrift Store Find, Attic 24 Crochet Latest, Another Great SAL, Autumn Love from Canadian Needle Nana

Saturday, Sunday and Monday were glorious days that showcased perfect October weather. The sun shone all day and warmed the earth. It was pleasant enough to sit on the veranda and stitch.

I watched leaves gently letting go and kept thinking of the word golden. Ned joined me, keeping a sharp eye on the squirrels and sniffing the air, enjoying autumn in an entirely different way.
It was perfect to be crocheting and I didn't mind the extra warmth of wool in my lap. I listened to this audio book, Miss Eliza's English Kitchen. A Novel of Victorian ...

Biscuits and Gravy, Scrappy Tiny Trees, Colourful Coffee Table Runner, October Photos from Canadian Needle Nana

Haying time in the Ottawa Valley- as neat as it is to see these you don't want to get stuck behind it on a narrow country road..I had to wait for it to turn off to get past.
I'm a cautious driver-I will ever only pass one car at a time and seldom even that.
Thanksgiving dinner was a success.  It was nice to use the fancy glassware and dishes from Hubby's family. I enjoyed the preparation very much. I made biscuits for the gravy this time and used Melissa's Bless This Mess easy recipe ...

Rescued Quilt, "Floor Basting" Tilda, OMG, 30 Pies, Neat Ikea Purchase, Garden Finale from Canadian Needle Nana

On the wall now, sewn for a child perhaps...this hanging I bought at a thrift shop. I liked the maker's free style...three rows of mostly plain blocks with appliqued figures sewn over it. I thought the big eyed owls cute and the toadstool and mouse neat. Closer examination showed two pieces of fabric featuring horse backed riders in red coats. I like this primitive kind of improv style too and I'm glad I "rescued" it. Have you ever rescued a fellow stitcher's work too?

I have the fabric for the backing of my redworked birds ...

Scrappy Projects, Autumn Bouquet, One Monthly Goal, QAL News, Muffins by Ina from Canadian Needle Nana

I don't make many indoor bouquets anymore even though that is something I enjoy having; I leave it for the bees and insects. But I couldn't resist the beautiful contrast of the purple Asters and the mustard yellow Goldenrod. There are three varieties of  autumn Asters here, pale blue and white as well as the purple New England Asters.

It felt like a quilt making day on Friday.  The walk early morning was one with a bracing wind in my face. 2C overnight but the wind definitely made it feel colder.  I was thankful I'd opted for ...

Thursday's Three Free, Rare Moth, Tasty Meal, EPP Pyramids, Loving Labradors from Canadian Needle Nana

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago in August when the fall Asters just began to bloom. If it is the Yellow Wooly Bear Moth, I would be delighted as I have seen a couple of the pretty yellow caterpillars around the property like this one I photographed in 2019.
I watched the moth forever, fascinated with its furry like long legs and overall ghostly appearance.

Wendy at  Pieceful Thoughtsthis post shared a link to a slow cooker sausage and shrimp boil recipe that sounded delicious. I made my own version and this is the leftovers...shrimp ...

Three Free Patterns, Favourite Summer Spot, Panama Pyramids, Flight of Fancy Progress from Canadian Needle Nana

August 25 view of the pond.
In the midst of all the pleasures of this property is this little pond, I sit down here most summer mornings with my camera and Ned beside me. Both of us looking, looking, looking. Me for birds- haven't a clue what he is looking for but he keeps his head on a swirl and seems to enjoy the experience as well. We don't speak and seem to hold our breaths waiting for something great to appear/happen. It always seems we are both reluctant to finally give in, leave the peace and ...

Tornado Warnings, Eye Candy for Dogs, Dresden Blades, Woolly Purchase from Canadian Needle Nana

We had another tornado warning last week!

The radar showed we were directly in its' path which was scary for a few hours. Unlike before, warnings were issued in a timely fashion so folks had time to pick their kids up at school and daughter and Robbie came right to our house. The idea was that our house is very solid with a good basement underground. It was an uneasy feeling watching the wind start to whip up. But at the last minute the storm path divided right around us, part moving south and part going north, remarkable to see ...

Mistake #3, Lilacs in Bloom, Tiramisu, Floral Motif Sampler from Canadian Needle Nana

So happy to be writing a Thursday things we like post.  Here is something I adore...Ned is now about 20 in dog years, fully grown, but he still tries to get in my lap. He will balance himself in the strangest poses just to stay for a little bit and get a good rub.

Love the flowers that are blooming just now here in my corner of the world. This is a lilac bouquet I had at the farm. Though in bloom, my lone lilac tree here does not produce such fine flowers as the three at the farm ...

New Tilda Project, Free Embroidery Patterns, Choki, Gardening from Canadian Needle Nana

Here I am up at the farm years back planting Morning Glories along the back yard area that the dogs roamed in. Murphy was keeping pace with me as I moved along. These are seeds I would have germinated in the tiny green house attached to the barn. I enjoyed training the vines up that fence to cover it up. Happy Spring Memories!

I've been following Choki on YouTube for about two years now. I've shared this before but thought I'd mention again for new readers.  I find whatever she makes looks so good and it also ...

Wildflower Embroideries, Scrappy Confetti Quilt, Indoor Gardening, Neddy News from Canadian Needle Nana

Mother Nature is wearing winter white still here in our corner of the globe.  But with a promise of plus side temperatures later this week, the snow won't take too long to melt. (Says she hopefully)

But the inside Garden is growing well and surviving the long winter.  I use the little water spritzer bottle and keep them well misted which I think helps with the dry indoors climate. Note the little white Polka Dot plant is doing well with the pinching back...so far.
The Hazel's Summer Wildflowers quilt is at this stage.  It's been easy ...

Loves, 7 or 8 of Them Today from Canadian Needle Nana

"Love each other or perish."

                           W. H.  Auden

Monday is a public holiday here and in many of the Canadian provinces, Family Day. It's a day for families to take a midwinter rest or get outside and enjoy winter fun together. This year there are lots of planned activities. We will be dog sitting as daughter and family take a little overnight trip.

Love these faces...mother Abbey with her offspring, Petey and Ned. These Labradors love the snow.

The family was here last Sunday for snowmobiling. They all had a great time.  Both the grandsons were here.

I ...

Free Patterns, Scrappy Appliqued Hearts, Book and Show and Art Too from Canadian Needle Nana

I transplanted the White Polka Dot plant into my old teapot which is now a planter. It is doing well in it so far but I need to read up on how to prevent it from becoming "leggy". And I got out my finally completely finished appliqued Scrappy Hearts runner for this week. Pattern of my own multi-year making; I didn't mean it to be that way.  I just kept second guessing all my choices which is what I do when I'm not following along with an expert who knows what they're doing.

In spite of the ...

Sewing Room Dig 2022, Who Said I Yam What I Yam?, Baking, Loving Labradors from Canadian Needle Nana

We have Ned's litter mate, Petey, here with us for a while and I've been making sure they have been getting lots of exercise and attention. Being Labradors, they both are needy when it comes to pats and rubs.  All joyful to the two of us as we are basically in isolation and this is a pleasant diversion. It's also like old times to have two dogs again.

I've been complaining lately about the lack of  light for indoor picture taking as you know. SIL was so nice to buy me this special Halo light.  It ...

Christmas This Year, Nana Time, Jewel Box Quilt from Canadian Needle Nana

I heard from talented Robin at I Like To Create that she had stitched the quilt I showed Santa stitching in the last post.  Robin and her husband do the jigsaw puzzle each year and it was her inspiration for the quilt.  She also called the pattern Rising Sun. Thanks Robin for letting us know and allowing me to share your pretty quilt.
In my sewing room, the Jewel Box blocks continue to grow. This is an easy block to stitch once I'd figured out templates for the parts. I do seem to get good use from those Marti ...

Disappearing Tree, Slightly Foxed, Appliqued Blocks, Christmas Thoughts from Canadian Needle Nana

The tree was up and enjoyed for two days. As always Snowy Owl looked down from the very top and I loved the way the 8 year old decorator decided every single item had to be hung on it and that most of the lights hanging in one spot was especially pretty.

Then it had to come down. Ned! He just loved the ornaments too much and his reach was too far. After losing several of them, I decided to put it all away where everything will be safe for another year. Hopefully, he will be more mature then too ...

Quilt Bible Blocks, Snowmen Table Runner, 3 Free Seasonal Patterns, Neddy's Growing! from Canadian Needle Nana

I tumbled down a rabbit hole this week I can tell you!! On a whim I decided to get out my scrappy Quilt Bible blocks and see what they looked like all together. The floor was the only space free to lay them out.  I'd already made the decision to use a light blue fabric for the sashing as Rosemary had used in her book. I figured she's the expert and actually I think it is working okay.

I'd thought of black but didn't have enough on hand and white is over used by me. I ...
