Beyond the Cherry Tree Update from Humble Quilts

This is a big quilt that I've been handquilting for about 5 years now. Gay at Sentimental Stitches offered it as a free BOM. (follow her blog! She hosts amazing BOM's! and offers sales frequently) She copied the pattern from a quilt she purchased. I still love this so much! I wish I wasn't such a slow quilter. I brought it out as soon as our summer weather broke. Someone mentioned on Instagram they'd like to get a better look, so here ya go.

This quilt is about 100" square.
The original quilt had wonderful motifs ...

Fabric on Friday! from Humble Quilts

I knew I had better get busy on my garment for Houston.
I need to learn to choose patterns that can use quilting cotton, but I had it so I started in. My plan was to have the larger print on top like the pattern, but I used the wrong pattern piece! So I wasn't sure what to do next so I sent a photo off to Sunny (Gone to the Beach blog) and my daughter for help.

Sunny gave me the courage to cut off the sleeve and use this berry fabric instead of the stripe.
The next ...

Finally on a Friday from Humble Quilts

I'm so glad to be back to posting, hopefully on a normal schedule again.
I  suggested you try and get your 2 parts of the Liberty quilt together. I took my own advice!

It isn't the best photo, but the bottom row is all that's left! Whoop! Whoop! Next Friday we will have a linky party and see how everyone is doing. Monday October 1st will be the final instructions!! Cheri would be so proud of your creativity!

I won this cute panel to make a fall/halloween banner from Quilters Coop. I haven't had a ...

100 days of fun with hexies from Quilting & Learning

I am participating in the 100 hexies in 100 days event (#100hexies100days2018) which began August 6, 2018. It's hosted by Sew Foxy Mama (sewfoxymama) and takes place on Instagram. I'm new at Instragram. Events like this are a lot of fun because I can just go to the event tag and look at everyone's posts.

Each week has a different theme. The hexies can be made with fabric following the theme, or the images can be shot in surroundings that illustrate the theme. It's been so much fun seeing all of the yummy fabric and great ...

Fun on A Friday from Humble Quilts

Perhaps you are reading this in the early morning, I should be finishing my 2nd leg of the relay. That leg should start about 2 or 3AM Friday morning. Now that I'm preparing and packing I've been questioning my sanity!! LOL

A couple of weeks ago an acquaintance of Kevin,  Ruth,  sent him a box of scraps. He called me and told me he had found these reversible girls dresses in the box and wanted to send them to me for my mission trip!

He told Ruth about it and she sent me dresses too!

 They are reversible ...

Sweet Land of Liberty Month 8 from Humble Quilts

So many times I wish Cheri could see our unique Liberty quilts! You guys are really up to the challenge. Ready for month 8? Let's go!
This month there is more piecing and less applique.

I have my letters ready to add somewhere. My red on the liberty angel was too dark and you really couldn't see the word freedom, so I'll add that somewhere down the line. So you know what the approx size should be they are supposed to fit on the angel's dress shown below. The dress is 7 1/2" finished.
 The ...

Fun on Friday from Humble Quilts

I'm out of the country right now, but have my feet up relaxing after a very active day in Whistler. Unfortunately my last 2 getaways I've had no hand work. I am going to have to remedy that as soon as I get home.
I'm not ready to show this applique yet, but I used this fun print from my late friend, Jill. I love how she creeps into almost all of my quilts.
E, Pluribus unum- Out of many, one.

I've started on my fall little quilt for a quiltalong and I'm using a ...

What a year! from Daisychain Quilter

I have been busy this year making quilts for exhibiting national, so my blog has been neglected. I have also been 'sewing up a storm' for my Etsy shop too.  I love making bags, cushions and bunting.

Although I have not published any posts this year, I have a lot of draft posts that also need to be finished and published.  So now that things here are a little quieter for a while, I thought I would come back to blogging and update it.

You will see some of the items I have made listed on Daisychain Quilter Etsy. I ...

Fantastic Fun on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

It's been a very busy week but also a fun one. Super busy at work.
Farmers are at the peak of "farming season". Silly I don't know exactly what's going on around me. I do know the garlic is getting flamed, the bees are pollinating the carrot plants, hay and alfalfa are being harvested. Many farmers work in the cool of evening, meaning they work on their bale wagons, water trucks, combines, during the day.

Anyway...... fun cause they weather has been fantastic! Sunny skies as far as the forecast will let me look.
I love summer ...

Fun on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

It would be way more fun if I would have had a chance to sew this week, but I am grateful our business is staying busy and putting food on the table for several families.
I've been enjoying the outside more too now that the weather is summery!! I may switch to posting 2x week for the next couple of months.

Little bits and pieces of the Sweet Land of Liberty quilt.

This is a quilt by Country Threads I made in 2001 and was quilted by Bonnie Hunter (when she still quilted as a business) It is a ...

Dear Daughter blocks 17-20 from Humble Quilts

Gay at Sentimental Stiches has another set of Dear Daughter blocks up. More fun ones! Get them HERE.

I thought this would be a fun one to make on the 4th of July. Looks like my piecing skills need work! LOL I think it may make a fun center to a small quilt.

Here's my instagram feed for the week. It really has been lovely. Mother nature has turned up the dial and now summer is really here!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fun on A Friday! from Humble Quilts

I've got a few ideas and projects rolling around my head.

I started digging around in my French General fabric and found this little center already pieced. May as well go with it!
Here's my little tub of FG bits and pieces.
I got these on the remnant section at Fabric Depot and think I'll put them somewhere else where I will remember to use them.
Betty Lou and her friend Cynthia have been making dresses for Haiti and was so thoughtful to send me a few for my next mission trip! Thank you both from the ...

Friday Musings from Humble Quilts

Here is the second little quilt I made for the Humble Quilt Swap. I messed up and one person didn't have a partner. It is a well traveled quilt- Oregon, California, England, Italy and back and now it resides in Canada!
Jan Snell was the recipient.

I am going to get on a soapbox now, Okay? If you don't want to read it, then see you next week!
This is directed mostly at women, so if you are a man reading this, then forgive me.
Why do we, mostly women, feel like we need to compete with one ...

Inspiration From Life from Humble Quilts

At every turn there was a ruin but also quilt inspiration in Italy!
Here are a few photos I'm mulling around for inspiration for my "Italy" quilt.

The next few photos were from the Vatican floor.

A random building in Florence.
Isn't that building adorable??

From our balcony in Manarola.

Our Airbnb in Rome.

Natures color combinations always work!

Look at the wine bottle label? That's got to be in indication of the fantastic trip ahead. (and it was!)

My Instagram feed for the week.

Make it a wonderful weekend!

Blue Ridge Rendezvous from Humble Quilts

Here's the little quilt we worked on at the Victoria Guild workshop.
It is fun to learn how to do half-blocks and a zig zag setting. Mine is the blue and pink inspired by an antique quilt of the same colors. I called it Blue Ridge Rendezvous because I pieced it while at Bonnie's first cabin in
the Blue Ridge Mountains.(my first time ever to North Carolina)

Our goal was to try and get one row complete with the half blocks. You can use any 4" finished block with this same setting.

I showed you the pomegranate ...

Crochet Inspiration from Samelia's Mum

Some of my favourite feeds on Instagram are of the yarn variety. Crochet to be exact. Whether they focus on making rainbow coloured blankets, Amigurumi, shawls or just share lots of pictures of stacked balls of yarn, I love to look at them... and get a little bit inspired along the way. Today, I thought I'd share a few of my favourites - perhaps they're new to you and you might like to check
