Kawaii Kitties from Becca's Crazy Projects

I was enamored with this drawing workbook called Kawaii Kitties. I couldn't resist.
I have slowly been working through the tutorials.

I've had some fun drawing little kitties.

They are delightful!

How fun is this little guy?

They may not qualify as grand art but they make me happy.

Top Nine 2022 on IG from Goer

I share my work over on Instagram @sarahgoerquilts. Here are my top nine posts (based on "likes") from the year. My year of sewing was grounded in community, with many of these posts being about bee blocks. It's fitting that the post about my mom is in the center as the grief of losing her filled the majority of 2022 for me.

1. Bee blocks created for me

2. Two Color Sash created for Elizabeth

3. Throwback to one of my mini blocks from the 2020 mini series sew along

4. "H" from "hope" block created for E. A ...

Finishing Up and Getting Ready from From My Carolina Home

Finishing up the Quilt of Valor this week was easy, as my machine behaved itself. Amazingly, I ran out of bobbin thread at the end of a pass each time, so no tying off in the middle of the quilt. That doesn’t happen often! I used white Glide thread on top, and white Bottom Line in the bobbin.

The pantograph is Blue Star from Urban Elementz.

I finished it up on Monday, and the client picked it up on Tuesday. She’ll trim and bind it, then add a label, and it will be ready to award to a ...

New York Beauty Challenge - Syzygy from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik challenge (and blog hop) for June 2022 is New York Beauty.

I received the collection Winter Sky. Designed by Kathy Engle, it should be available in stores now.

I turned to EQ8 and started designing playing.  I started with a basic/traditional layout.

Traditional New York Beauty?

It looks like something I have seen before. Although it was pretty, it could use a little more imagination. Back to EQ8. After several iterations, here is the final design.

Modern Interpretation of NYB

Done playing, it was time to get serious. Schmetz Microtex Needles 70/10 and Aurifil 40wt ...

Uptown Girl ♫♫ And More from Humble Quilts

Here are my Uptown blocks for this month! Thank you Gay for doing such an amazing job with your blocks of the month! After I made my block I saw one online and I was missing the lower flower bud! I have no idea how I missed that!

That's better!

I have a few more panels left if you are still looking. The battle scene and the blue generals are cut too close to the top so I am making a good deal on those two panels. (blue Generals is sold) Email me at humblequilts@gmail.com if you ...

A quick post to announce that I'm going to be playing with fun fabrics as part of Kate Basti's The Summer Book Club QAL.

Making more book blocks

I'm thrilled to have found out about The Summer Book Club QAL on Instagram. It uses one of my favourite foundation paper piecing blocks - the Tall Tales Quilt Block. Kate Basti has designed the block and it can be purchased on her Etsy shop (links in Related links below). The pattern is only $1, and she's donating all of her sales of the pattern to the Ronald McDonald ...

Traveller's Blanket Update from Quilting & Learning

I've been doing a lot of slow stitching, mostly on my Traveller's Blanket and then posting on Instagram. There have been lots and lots of hours pleasantly spent stitching and now quilting it.

Quilting the Traveller's Blanket

The last update on my Traveller's Blanket was October 11, 2021. I was showing you my daily stitching on the #100dayschallenge on Instagram. At the time I was up to day 37/100. On Day 39, I started quilting the background of the right top corner of the piece. This picture was taken about a week ago.

Slowly quilting ...

Falling into Christmas from Humble Quilts

I'm making the transition to Christmas at my house!
Most of the decor is still in the attic but I can get started with my quilts!

Out with fall!

We got our first little bit of snow yesterday! It was really cold and windy and I knew something was blowing in! Brrrr.

The first week of the sale transition has been a bit of chaos. We've had lots of people going in and out, and just a bit of craziness. For example, We cancelled our trash service and they picked up our dumpsters! Uhhh yea, the business still ...

Quilts Unscripted Bee Blocks from Ellyn's Place

Quilts Unscripted Bee continues to inspire me! In September, Carole challenged us to make blocks that represent Time in a  prescribed color palette. Songs about time kept coming to me, including my favorite song of all time, James Taylor's Secret of life....

One part of the song says "The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time... any fool can do it. there ain't nothing to it. nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill. But, since we're on our way down, might as well enjoy the ride". It always makes me think ...

Eco Printing - Take 2 from Quilting & Learning

In February of this year, I did some eco printing based on Caroline Nixon's workshop for TextileArtists.com. If you don't remember the post, it's because it was never written. Last weekend I decided that I would take a second stab at it since I love the results of eco printing. Here is what I learned

More slow stitching challenge from Quilting & Learning

I'm happy to say that I'm still doing well with the #100dayschallenge on Instagram. Yesterday I finished my first week! If you haven't been following on Instagram, here is a recap and more details.

Stitching the Hexies, Diamonds and Spiral

So far, I've been stitching with yummy thread on an improv piece with free motion quilting (FMQ) in the centre panel. My #100dayschallenge has been to stitch the centre panel. This week I've played with some very special hand-dyed threads from Maiwa, in British Columbia. They have craftspeople in Bengal who hand-dye silk, linen, cotton ...

Through Ellyn's Eyes from Ellyn's Place

In the last several weeks, an idea has been percolating in my brain. Today I am putting it out there for the world (or at least a few of you!) to read, so that you can hold me responsible and follow along with my wacky plan. So here we go!

Much of this idea came to me after reading Lisa Congdon's book, Find Your Creative Voice: The Essential Guide to Working Your Creative Magic. Actually, reading it for the second time, highlighting portions that spoke to me (honestly, it would have been easier to highlight what didn't speak ...
