Hexies on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to Free Motion Mavericks (Week 244)

Enjoying some relaxing time outside
I'm on a resting holiday. That means sleeping a lot (up to 12 hours a day!), reading, quilting, and a little bit of gardening and blogging. So far I've managed to keep it relatively quiet except for my felting miss-adventure (see Related posts below).

I'm working on piecing one UFO and I did finish my Kingfisher Stitch-Along quilt top. I'll write a post before the end of the week since that was my July and August OMG.

Since I haven't done any free ...

Cousin's Walk Bird Sampler from Humble Quilts

I finally got started on my bird sampler, called Cousin's Walk  reproduced by Leonie Bateman and Deirdre Bond-Abel , Quilted Crow Girls Designs. (which is no longer in business)

When I was in WA state in march, Merry opened her package (that had been sitting for a few years) and I was smitten!  They have been getting together and working on projects together and I've barely started. These are prepped to machine applique. It's a really cheerful quilt!

Here is the antique in all its glory in 2013.

My friend Michelle and I ....
enjoyed a wonderful summer evening ...

Jesus Asked It #12
Jesus Asked Series: 1,  2, 3, 4, 5678910, 11

When I pulled up this verse, I almost went back to Jesus Asked It #11 to make a correction!

Look how similar the verses are!  I hadn't noticed this before!
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Matthew 7:3 NIV

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time ...

Early Morning Musings from Kelly Ann's Quilting

Let me start off by saying that I am not an early morning person, while I love the notion of watching the sunrise it is 1) not realistic because the trees block the horizon and 2) it is too friggin early.  I woke up early with my silly plantar fasciitis in my right foot giving me a fit, no doubt the way I slept on it. I also woke up with some fun on my mind that I need to keep a secret just a

Stitchin' Post from Humble Quilts

I always love to stop by the Stitchin' Post prior to the quilt show. They have it stocked to the max with new wonderful vignettes and quilt samples hanging.  Here's a breeze through the store.

Any teachers doing classes this week are completely stocked up with any supplies, books, or patterns students may need or want.

If you have never been to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, and one day would like to attend, let me make a recommendation. If you come any distance and only go on Saturday, the day of the show, you miss out on so ...

Wool Applique from Humble Quilts

I've been fond of wool applique for quite some time now. I have this one displayed on my table.
Top complete, nothing more. It is such easy hand work.

Another little wool block- only the top.

While I was in Ohio I won a giveaway on Instagram! Thank you Pacific NW Quilt and Fiber Museum in LaConner!!

After I quilt our fall quiltalong, I feel some more wool applique happening in my world!

My Instagram feed for this week. I hope your 4th of July was spectacular!!

Enjoy your weekend!!

Flag Day on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

I really enjoyed the Mt Bachelor Quilters Guild this week. I do not belong to a local group and it is fun to see what others in the quilting world are doing.

Someone donated a huge (over 100x100) star top to the guild for a boutique fundraiser.  It was rippling and waving like crazy- they were ready to bring it to the thrift store. Someone had a vision!!

She shared how she starched it to drenching, then let it dry, then ironed it. It was a massive quilt, so she cut it in half! Genius!

Look at this darling quilt ...

Four Patch on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

 I got 64 made....
 Then 64 more....
Hoping to get the final 64 complete before Monday.
Merry, That Go! is amazing! Thanks again!!

I gave the facebook group a sneak peak at the fabric I'll be using for the Autumn Amish mystery sewalong so I knew I had to show it here.

Here's another book I"m enjoying about quilts from New York. Isn't that cover quilt amazing? That is vintage! What a creative quiltmaker.

Here's an unusual sampler quilt.

Made by members of the Perfectionist community!! I'd never get to live there!!
Seriously, I ...

4 Patches from Humble Quilts

Who doesn't love a simple 4 patch? And a double 4 patch is double the fun!
I'm swapping with my friends Kat and Kevin next month when I go to Ohio. (I won't be seeing Kevin in Ohio, but he is still swapping with us)  I better get busy if I want to get all 200 of them made before then! These will finish at 4" and this will not be the setting .

I generally don't piece lots of blocks at one time except in these circumstances.

Oops....

This is what goes on at home most ...

Slow stitching Update from Quilting & Learning

To try to minimize the evenings when I go home and do absolutely nothing quilty,  I joined The 100 Day Project (#the100dayproject) on Instagram. Will it work? I guess we'll find out...

The 100 Day Project on Instagram

Herringbone stitch added to the mix
Why would I want to add this to my plate? Well, it's on Instagram, so it takes about 2 minutes to post, which is a plus. Also, even if I'm wiped, it would be nice to do something that is productive but simple and stress free. My answer to that is to follow ...

Recovery Friday from Humble Quilts

I'm still in recovery mode from my whirlwind trip to see Bonnie in NC/VA.
We had such a blast, we hiked, we sewed, but it was also relaxing and fun. There was no pressure to "do" anything and we both fell into a good pace. Of course, when it comes to sewing I don't even try to keep up with Bonnie! LOL We work differently and that is fine. There are no quilt police!
With that said, here is a sneak peak of a quilt my friend and quilter Sharon, Grass Roots Quilting worked on while I ...

Friday fun! from Humble Quilts

If you are on the Humble Quilts Facebook group you know little quilts are criss crossing the states and the world making there way to their new owner! So much fun!! Just a reminder to please have them in the mail before April 30th.

Gay released month 2 of Cheddarback. You can get month 2 free for this month only. Check it out HERE. Here is my 12" finished block.

And my four 5" finished blocks. My basket handle is a little humble, but in the whole scheme of things it shouldn't be too noticeable.
 And here is a ...

New material coming! from Maria the Quilter

I know you probably come here for the photos, because, well let’s be honest: in the quilting world, words mean far less than photos. I can explain a stitch but when you see a picture of it, that’s WAY more meaningful. In person? EVEN better!

What I’m here to say is that I am here. I haven’t been posting pix – I had a bit of an issue with my tools but am almost back to full capability there. I have been busy writing on my personal blog (here).

So in the meantime, PLEASE please visit my ...

Quilt Labels from Humble Quilts

Here is my label ready to apply to my Lincoln Quilt. Diane did an awesome job quilting and I'm hoping to get binding made and on this weekend.  Some labels, I have basic info, this one will be used in my lecture, "Reruns: Quilts Inspired by the Past" so I thought I'd give a few more details.
The first time I saw a printed signature  that I fell in love with was by Lizzy on my 50th birthday signature quilt. I treasure all the blocks and the signatures, but thought I could do some labels in a different ...

1857 Album Quilt from Humble Quilts

I made quite a bit of headway at the quilt retreat on my 1857 Album Quilt. Click HERE for more info. When I got home I counted them and needed 4 more for a 6x7 layout.

These are 10" finished blocks and my little design wall isn't not big enough to hold them and my sewing room floor hardly works either.  4 of these blocks do not have the corner diamonds yet.
I like to applique the body, then trim, then add the corner diamonds.
Here are a few views!

I'm pretty sure when all blocks are complete ...

Fickle Friday from Humble Quilts

A little of this and that today-
***For some unknown reason I stopped receiving comments in my email on Monday. I really thought nobody liked the French General little quilt! LOL Which would have been completely okay. I quilt for myself and what I like. But I was happy to see there were comments on that post! I  think Google did some updating, and once I went to settings, email, and added my email address to comment notification email and confirmed the email, I was back in business! If you have noticed the same thing, that's how it can ...
