Ideas, Images, and Updates April 2019 from Tales of a Stitcher

April also known as Break Up—the AK version of spring—was as mucky as it could get, and I was home to enjoy every bit of it. That is until weather dumped loads of snow on us. Yep. We were buried for the last days of April. (I was to busy quilting to stop and take a photo, but trust me—it was a MESS.)

As my schedule gets busier, I know that every moment at home counts. I can’t be diddling around on Raverly all day long. No. No. No. But if I get a task done ...

Odds and Ends from Elsie Quilts

I'm working on my daughter's king-size and don't want to post it yet... also working on a charity baby quilt from a panel. I'll post it when the elaborate border is done. Don't have room on my design wall for it yet so picture taking is a bit more challenging.

A woman in our guild says that she takes every bit of her leftovers from a project and makes blocks out of it, usually 4 inch 4-patches. Wish I'd heard that years ago! I make a twin quilt and had just small pieces left ...

Use Your Words (Carefully) from Tales of a Stitcher

Most of you know that I am a founding member of Cloth in Common a small international group of artists. Every two months, we get an unusual prompt from one of our members. We then create an individual response to the prompt by creating an original artwork.

Cloth in Common

Every Tuesday during this two month period one of us will write a blog post for the Cloth in Common website. These posts are our written responses to the prompt—what we are thinking about, what materials, or visuals ideas we are exploring.

This time the prompt was Dis-Unity. The journey I took ...

Pin It Weekly #271 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I was pinning "a few" ideas a couple of night's ago while Richard watched one of his westerns, and thought it a good idea to organize my "quilting inspiration ideas..." board. Why I thought that rabbit hole was a good one to step into, I don't remember. Nevertheless, I did clean up the clutter somewhat.

Now that Pinterest has an easy, fast way to build sections and move pins, the organizing is not so time-consuming. When you move 50 pins in a minute or so, you almost get instant gratification.

So for now I have two boards: one ...

It’s a Baby Girl Arrow Quilt with Cricut

We’re on the eve of expecting our first grandchild!  Soooooo…. I just had to make a Baby Girl Arrow Quilt!

Fabric for the Baby Girl Arrow Quilt with Cricut

First step:  Shopping with Mom to three quilt stores!  I loved learning Ashley’s vision for Baby Ellie’s nursery!

Beautiful Ashley momma to Ellie photograph by Sally June Photography in Salt Lake City, Utah.

What could be more fun than shopping with my daughter in law for fabric!  I loved how Ashley selected fabrics from different designers and brands combining a real delicate touch of peaches, pinks, eucalyptus greens and whites.  Photo by Sally June Photography find her on Instagram!

I’ve Been Thinking……. from Quilt Paint Create

When I don’t get much creative time, I spend lots of time thinking about what I’ll do when I have it again. Ideas wander through my mind about projects, techniques and experiments. It’s a good thing and a bad thing all rolled into one. I love hanging out with ideas and have a hard time resisting new projects.
Here’s some of what I’ve been thinking about.
How my Art Quilt Group had a dye day (that I was unable to attend) and dyed cheesecloth and yarn in with their fabric. This created coordinating sets.
How ...

10 Ways the Cricut Maker Can Help With Quilting! Your New Bestfriend!

10 Ways the Cricut Maker Can Help With Quilting! Your New Bestfriend!

  1. ACCURACY

The Cricut Maker accurately cut out shapes to any quilt blocks.

All Cut with the Cricut Maker Tula Pink City Sampler

This is especially critical when making a 6 inch square block with 29 pieces.  With any cutting error the block will not square up to fit into your quilt.  Even my puppy and tortoise can see that this is one squared up block!  Thank you Cricut Maker for the accurate cutting!
