Textiles Of Guatemala from Humble Quilts

The textiles of Guatemala are so vivid and beautiful!

I thought this beadwork was so interesting and beautiful!

I live near a Native American reservation and beadwork is very expensive. These were reasonably priced. I can't say that I saw anyone wearing them so maybe they are for special occasions or ceremonies.

2 years ago this man and his mother had the popup shop in our hotel. I was happy to see him again, but he said his mother has been ill. They were both so kind!

These aprons are so beautiful! I think they are called Ikat aprons ...

Guatemala Generosity Recap from Humble Quilts

I had some very generous donations given to me to take to Guatemala.
(No quilt content today)

Where the after school program is located stands about 8000' elevation and can get very chilly so we opted to bring warmer clothing.

Thank you to quilter Donna and friends and her daughter Krista who blessed us with coats, hats, socks, and gloves. Her daughter Krista knitted a bag of hats! Also Highland Baptist Hispanic Church blessed us with clothing, toys and snacks.

We were able to set up a room and organize the clothing by size.

This little boy was blessed with ...

Monday Muse from Humble Quilts

Here are 2 "sardines" I picked up in Portugal. You saw a lot of this pattern on towels, fabric and tchotch's  but these were a bit different. Made from linen and in a small boutique store that offered classes. When we stopped in people were painting tiles! These were heavy like a well made pin cushion and I loved how they were decorated.

Speaking of sardines.....

There are entire stores dedicated to sardines!

The dates for fun, not the date they were canned! lol

We did bring some home and generally I'm not a sardine girl.

Last week ...

Donation Requested from Humble Quilts

This post is on behalf of Faith Seeds International. (The non profit board I'm on)

In Sisters, Oregon this summer they are having a big fundraiser. Gaby, my sweet Guatemalan friend who started Faith Seeds, will be there. I don't know all the details except I was asked if my
"Quilt team" (YOU!) could come up with an "offering" for the silent auction.  This was asked by a fellow board member/non quilter. I thought his verbage was really sweet.

I decided since I don't use this basket quilt in my lectures I will be donating it ...

Guatemala Recap from Humble Quilts

If you have not been following me on any social media this post is for YOU!

I've been in Guatemala for 9 days and here is a little recap, mostly about the beautiful textiles.

The first 2 days we relaxed after an overnight flight. We prepped for our week ahead and had some downtime for doing touristy things
We visited a women's weaver's guild in San Juan La Laguna! Fair trade and really helps these women and their families.

In this same town we visited a small chocolate shop.
Very quilt-like! Hanging as a wall in a ...
