Winter Stitching and other Happenings from From the Strawberry Patch...

I've been as busy in the sewing room this month as an active puppy will allow me to be! Never a dull moment around here. I've begun cutting out all the pieces for "Stars and Snowflakes" by Wendy Sheppard. The trial block is shown here, under construction. I hope to have this all cut and prepped to take along for stitching together at an upcoming weekend retreat. While preparing all the pieces for

Growing from From the Strawberry Patch...

I've been trying to keep up with the Cream and Sugar block of the month at my LQS, class meets again this week and my stack of blocks is growing. We've been stitching two a month. These, eventually, will each be "framed" by a larger star block as shown on the pattern below. This is the book that we're using, by "It's Sew Emma". I chose very similar colors; the effect is soft and calming.Someone

new year, new post . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Are You there God?  It's me, Margaret.

I pulled this Judy Blume book off the shelves at the library in Oak Hill Elementary, my third grade year.  I remember reading it over and over, during the course of my two-week check out.  The contents, which were so gripping to me fifty-plus years ago, have long been forgotten, but the title grabs me in different circumstances ALL the time, to this day.

Are you there fellow bloggers?  It's me, Denise.  :)

My niece, Megan, who is owner and founder of Two Tales Editing, sent out a clever gif on her ...

Closing Down 2022 from Quilty Folk

Well, 2022 is going out with a whimper. I got sick the week before Christmas, barely pulled it together in time to enjoy a few good days with family and then, bam. Relapsed and now, probably bronchitis. Uggh. In my defense, it was super, super cold here for those weeks and I probably overdid things for the holiday.

All finished!
Anyway, real quick post here. These are my last finishes of the year! Moody 9-Patch which was started clear back in November of 2020. You can check out the antique inspiration on that post if you like.

Looking cozy
I ...

Cookies, Cocoa and Christmas Cheer from From the Strawberry Patch...

There will be a return to posts that aren't necessarily puppy-dominated; but, in all honesty, I don't know when that might be! To clarify, though, there's been lots of other things going on around here sprinkled with liberal amounts of precious puppy moments in between!    The grands were all here to spend the night last weekend following an afternoon of cookie decorating, ornament making and

Meeting New Friends from From the Strawberry Patch...

As you know from the last post, we have a new family member, Augie. Nothing else has quite the power to connect with people of all ages than a new puppy. Augie's been on a "getting to know you" tour over these last few days and making friends of everyone he meets. It's absolutely exhausting being that cute! The very best part of introducing him around has been the happy reaction of our

The Best Diversions from From the Strawberry Patch...

We've had some diversions from our normal routines this week, the best kind, an overnight visit from these two. Since they're currently being home schooled we were able to take an active part in that and even added some enrichment activities as well! At break time we played a rip-roaring game of Sequence and took a field trip to a local park for some exercise, fresh air and sunshine; the weather

sweet, sweet, sweet . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Lots of lovely little tidbits from the past week.  First up, my daughter-in-love, has created a *sweet* home business called "Madelyn Mae's Bake Shop".  She makes the loveliest, tastiest cookies! How do I know they're tasty, you may ask?  Because she sent me some!
Tea cups, tea pots, and quilt squares! And in purples, no less!  It was a fun snail mail package to receive! She's so talented!

And I know autumn is on its way, because I've started to feel the pull of all things pumpkin . . .
Picked up this sweet Benartex metallic pumpkin panel.  I ...

This, That and a Few Sleeping Over... from From the Strawberry Patch...

We had a busy end to last week with a few guests in the house to liven up our otherwise boring routine day-to-day schedule. An after-dinner concert is certainly out of the ordinary around here, but it really classes up the place! We had dinner one night at Cracker Barrel, these two love, love, love some Chicken and Dumplings! Also spending some time with us right now is a our grand-dog, Buddy.

back in my world . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I think I posted in February that life had been crazy and the Valentine blog hop post was just the thing I needed to get me going again. Only I didn’t, and life—got crazier. And even a little scary. And again, I’m not going to tell the tale here (though if you know me IRL or we're friends on facebook, you have some ideas), but I will go back and write posts for my lost weeks, because it's cathartic and also helps me track when what happened (and what projects I worked on) down the ...

It Feels Good To Be Making Progress On Something from Quilty Folk

I actually managed to get quite a bit done in spite of the fact that we had a busy, busy Easter weekend! I went ahead and added a very small coping border between the main part of A-Tisket-A-Tasket and the red hst border.

A-Tisket-A-Tasket getting a border or two
I'm pretty sure there will only be one more border, of much larger red and gold hst units. It's all cut out and ready for sewing, just need to find the time. Super happy with how it's turning out though. That lighter yellow/gold just made everything shine ...

whirlwind . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Well, all I can think of to say is that it's been a wild ride, this past week or so (and I'm not talking about the tornado watch we're currently under)!

We had a lovely Christmas . . . but there were some sad things, too.  Most notably, my dad went to the hospital by ambulance on Monday, December 20, with an exacerbated COPD episode. We (and the doctors) had hoped he would be home by Christmas, but complications arose and that was not to be.  He came home late this afternoon, by the same method he went.  Hospice has ...

counting down . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Happy, happy, joy, joy!!  Christmas is . . .
Whoa! I think I've got a handle on it this year . . . our last day of work was last Thursday, which has given me more than a week of off-time to make sure I'm prepared!

Not a lot going on here that I could show.  Ellie spent the weekend with us, though, and she had a lovely finish!
I'm so proud of her! Her first time using the sewing machine, too. She did a fabulous job and enjoyed the process.  I think she was a little astounded that 1) she actually made ...

Mid December from Quilting Studio Adventures

This wall hanging is 3' x 4' and intended to be the first of a four seasons series for the dining room fireplace.  I do think this is a lovely tribute to autumn but will also admit it's odd. The hand quilting has created a wonderful texture.  But as I thought about above the fireplace, this just wouldn't work there yet.  But look how great it looks in the kitchen.  That wall has been pretty bare, so I've taped this up just to see whether it belongs here.  And I think it does!

Meanwhile during the day ...

Growing from From the Strawberry Patch...

There are lots of things going on, and growing on, around here. Despite my best intentions, my "to do" list is one of those things that grows out of control, like Kudzu, and thwarts all attempts to keep up with posting here. Gregory has turned eleven years old this month. Eleven! One thing that doesn't seem to to grow is available time: that shrinks! Seriously. How can it be November already?
