While We Were Away... from From the Strawberry Patch...

We traveled to western Illinois last month for the funeral of an extended family member. Beautiful country nearing the Mississippi River; rich soil, sprawling acreage dotted with family farms. There was a quilt in the Fellowship Hall there, this one commemorating the church’s 150th anniversary back in 2009. I'm drawn to them. While the guests that day were enjoying a lovely reception of foods

Step By Step from From the Strawberry Patch...

Spring is arriving, step by step... I'm ready!  I wish I could say it was a steady and gradual shift into spring, but that's not the case. One day we'll have beautiful almost-summerlike days and the next we're plunged back into a day that's cold and blustery, winter still has a grip. I've dug out my wintered-over geraniums and potted them up to enjoy the warmer, sunnmy days

One Quick Trip from From the Strawberry Patch...

We've only just returned from a quick trip to Massachusetts; this time, sadly, for a family funeral. Our dear friend, and brother-in-law, Dick, passed away on Friday, September 8th. He'd been sick for the last few months, we kept up constant communication with Mr. G's sister, Barbara, and knew of his rapidly deteriorating condition but still were not prepared for that phone call informing us that

i need an introduction . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's been a year.

Technically, it's not even been a half year, but it still feels like a whole, full, 12-month year, and I'm ready to be through with it!  Is that wrong?

My daddy passed away late in January.
He'd been in hospice care since December of 2021, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but I still wasn't ready for him to be gone.  I'm glad he's no longer suffering.
He was witty and clear-minded right to the very end, making us laugh with his quick sense of humor.  Such a ...

A Sad Cry - A Happy Cry from Ravelly1

Yesterday my cousins and I went to another funeral. It was very sad and I had to do the resolution for our church.  As a was reading, I looked over to one of the family members who is a close cousin and a classmate, well I almost lost it a couple of time but managed to pull if off and walked back to my seat in tears thanking God that He saw me through.

All of the experience weighed on me especially after the last funeral the other day.  As we drove home, there was silence in the car. I ...
