Holiday happenings from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

December has been a busy month for us. It’s that living in the moment thing again.

One of our nieces contacted the Hubs a few weeks ago and told him that while she apologized for the late notice, she was graduating from nursing school in a couple of weeks and that since she was our favorite niece (her words), she knew we’d come anyway! And we did. It has been many years since we visited Hubs’ hometown and we squeezed in all the visiting we could along with attending Lauren’s graduation ceremony and celebration party. We played ...

Late fall updates from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

…or holy cow, it’s December! Keeping it real…

Lighter decorating happened this year for Christmas

I finished the baby quilt top a couple of weeks ago. I walked into my fabric room the next day looking for an appropriate fabric for the backing, and spied one of the fleece throws the Hubs and I purchased at Goodwill almost two years ago when we were shopping for our new puppies. One of the throws has since been quilted and we sometimes use it as a cover for the back seat for them when we travel. After I purchased some Pellon ...

Retreat! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Let the good times roll, if only for about 48 hours!

I joined the Northwest Arkansas MQG this year. Katrina is the current president of the chapter and told me I needed to go to the retreat. I signed up even though I didn’t have my heart in it at the time because at this point in my life, who wants to schlep all that stuff, especially a 45-pound sewing machine?

One of the luxuries of retirement for me is being able to have a bit more time for planning and packing. While the retreat was only for two ...

A Day With Friends from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was getting a few things ready for when Sandy E and her sister Jeannette were coming. As I was getting ready, Debbie wanted to know if I would be home, and mom called to see if I could take the bolt cardboard, she got from Debbie McGinnis yesterday. I said sure.

So, first to show was Debbie and we talked about the quilt she wanted to make for the "therapy quilt" to give to her daughter. She has enough photos of her grandson to make a quilt for his brother as well. So, we chatted about what ...

A Fun Sunday from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick and I went to the casino (because I wanted my gift), and I got the grill that they were giving away. I wanted it, so made Patrick go today instead of Tuesday since he wasn't able to get the gift then. I'm still not sure which gift was given last week, could be the crock pot or the diamond electric skillet. I will see which one I get next week and will know. Like Patrick said, they are cheap, but they do work. Some of the stuff we get is really nice, others are crap ...

The Saskatoon Quilt Show from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love how some of you ALSO had to dust those knick-knacks! I can hardly wait for this morning to do my job!

OH MY GOSH --- The Saskatoon Quilters Guild Show. What can I say—it was a fantastic show, and I am so glad I decided to come. It was the BEST (by far) of any guild show that I have ever been to, and I've been to a fair number. Why? Well, I'll tell you shortly.

I stopped by the apartment for a little bit before I left, as I had some time to kill before ...

One bag missing and two found from Romany Quilting

The RSC colour for this month is black or brown.  Great, I'll get on with stitching the last of my selvedge strips and make a final two handed oven mitt for the year.  You may remember that I have been on a quest to use up my remaining selvedges.   But where was the bag with the selvedges and the hessian for the backing?  It should have been hanging up on the coat rack with various other bags of stuff, but no, it wasn't anywhere to be found.  Perhaps it was in the crates in the wardrobe, where I ...

A Morning at the Movies from Romany Quilting

Three friends and I attended the Thursday  morning screening of the film "Downton Abbey the Grand Finale".  When we arrived we were told that the credit card system wasn't working, so sales were cash only.  Luckily we all had some cash in our purses, so movie tickets were purchased, and a coffee too, as we were there in plenty of time.  I was so looking forward to the film, as I had watched all the TV series, and knew all the characters.  The scandal of divorce raised it's ugly head, as no divorced woman (at the time) could ...

Another Interesting Day At Moms from Quilting My Way

Patrick went golfing. I took the veggies that he had given me to take to moms. I had to go to physical therapy before the meeting. It ended up with me going to WinCo to get some tomatoes and I got some powered doughnuts (mini) for nibbling on.

I showed Bob the stack of veggies I had. He asked if he could take it all. I said sure, it was going to mom, and the ladies always forget to take the stuff. He was being nice and left some of the veggies for the ladies. I took it to moms ...

Don’t you love it when something clicks? from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

And I am not talking about Click Buy Now! (Well, maybe…)

I know it’s been quiet on this blog for a while. May and June were busy, but good months. In May, my friend Kevin came for a few days, and we had a surprise guest—more on that near the bottom of the post. AND, Hubs retired at the end of May.

I have mentioned several times my desire to digitize quilting designs to stitch out on Ani, my Brother Luminaire. I’ve had her for just over a year now and had not embroidered anything on her ...

An Awesome Day With Awesome Friends from Quilting My Way

Before I start this - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRIS! Today is my brother's 70th birthday. I wish the best for him!

My day started with me heading out the door and getting a few things done before joining Sandy and Geralyn. First was Rite Aid, but what I needed wasn't ready so, I opted to go back after our meeting. Then I headed to the post office to drop off the family group sheets for Bryan. I need to send him a message that it's on the way. After that, went back to Micheals to find the DMC floss ...

It's all about BALANCE! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Balance - that's a good word. There's balance in life, as in work-life balance, which I still struggle with occasionally. OK - I struggle with it a lot, but I still get lots of ME time. There's physical balance, and it's hilarious because it seems like such a simple thing, but it's a critical factor in our physical well-being. As I left my doctor's appointment the other day, she said, "You are taking care of yourself, and that is good. Be sure to work on your balance!" Not that balance was an issue in why I ...

Another Casino Day from Quilting My Way

Since it's Tuesday, and I get a free gift from the casino, we headed over there. I received a tote bag this time. I like it. May use it for groceries or my own personal use.

We played about 3 hours and came home with some money for Friday when I get "promo" money. We didn't seem to be into playing today, which was fine. We won, and we brought some money home. All in all, I think this year we have been ahead of the game.

Came home around 1:30 pm. It was raining. Patrick wanted ...

Visit With Debbie And Then Sewing from Quilting My Way

This morning, Debbie asked if I wanted to go to DB with her and go pick up the quilt from Colleen. I said sure. We got 75 extra points today at DB. So, I needed them.

She picked me up and we headed out. Stopped at Colleen's (after DB), then to the museum for my check. We had a good chat with Colleen and the quilt was ready to give out. When we got to the museum, brother Chris called and wanted to talk about Lisa's passing. At least he called to tell me. I was being to ...

Brazilian Embroidery Presentation from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was being lazy for as long as I could. I went out and got Phil some asparagus from the garden. Then we headed out to drop some stuff off for him. Patrick went to Ace Hardware and then back to Phil's.

We then headed to the casino for the money we get. We played a good 5 hours and figured we only spend $100. Not bad.

Came home around 4:45 pm and I needed to leave around 5:15 to pick up Geralyn. We had a presentation at the Rainy Daze Quilt Guild meeting. I ...

A Surprise At Brazilian Embroidery Today from Quilting My Way

This morning, I asked who wanted something to drink. We were going to work on the box of beads and the stuff our group is giving out for Seminar.

I stopped at McD's for 2 ice tea and a coffee. Then headed to the grange. I arrived and Sandy was already there. I waited on her as she headed back to her house to get a couple things. I didn't look around, probably a good thing. I went out to help Sandy V with her box of beads. When I went back in, Sandy E had the table ...

Sew Wot Tuesday and Goodbye dear friend from Romany Quilting

It was a Sew Wot Tuesday with a difference this week, Helen had arranged for us to meet  at Fox's Cottage quilt shop.  This is my favourite LQS and we are always warmly welcomed once we step through the door.

It was a nice sunny Autumn day

Believe it or not, there was not a single item for Show and Tell this week.  But we made up for it by checking out the shop, and most of us purchased a few goodies.  I had a very small list, I needed more pink thread to continue with my machine applique ...

Trip To Puyallup from Quilting My Way

I was up and ready to go to Puyallup with Geralyn. She was driving me up to her Woolie group that meets the first Monday of each month. She doesn't go in the wintertime, but she goes during the spring and summer. I met a gal I didn't know and was around with Jeannie Austin and her friend, as well as Geralyn. She was upset that her mother and sister didn't come. They were expected, but it didn't work out. I took some of my embroidery work and my Santa beaded tapestry.

I really had a ...

MOM TURNED 90 TODAY from Quilting My Way

This morning, we needed to be at the Gathering Place by 9:15 am. So, we stopped and took care of the water system, then got tea at Dutch Brothers. By that time, we were on time at 9:15 to find my younger brother Patrick and his family working on setting everything up. We all got everything done in time to call mom and have her pick up a package at the Gathering Place.

She WAS surprised. We had done it! It took 2 weeks of keeping her at arm's length so she would suspect anything. She was ...

Collecting Fabrics From A Dear Friend from Quilting My Way

This morning, I walked with Ron for 3 laps. Good thing it wasn't more. I was beat by the end of the day.

Before heading to meet mom, I went downstairs and put the fabric away that was on the floor.

The room is ready for more when I get it.

It's FULL and I know I will need to add more. Nancy said they got 2 carloads of QOV fabric in the garage. That will be for another day.

I went to meet up with mom and Nancy at Oakview Grange. Then we went to Ann Busby ...
