Announcing the “My Hometown” FREE Block of the Month! from Jacquelynne Steves

Hello everyone!!

I’m very excited to finally show you our next Block of the Month, “My Hometown“.

We had originally planned this BOM for 2020, but decided after things got “crazy” in the spring that we would postpone this event until 2021 and do some smaller projects instead (the Silver Linings Sew Along and the FaLaLa Sew Along). Even though there is still plenty of “craziness” going on in the world, I think the time is right to start looking forward to our 2021 Block of the Month!

This BOM will start in February of 2021, and we ...

Mental Health Day and Creativity from Jacquelynne Steves

Today, October 10, is “World Mental Health Day” – a day that is designed to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world.  This year more than ever it seems that many of us are dealing with mental health issues – and while for some of us these issues may be “minor”, they can still rob us of happiness and result in stress, lost productivity, and physical health issues.

I’d like to talk a little about the importance of CREATIVITY with regards to mental health today.  Scientific studies have shown that being creative helps decrease depressive symptoms, increase positive emotions ...

Charities that need donated Quilts from Quilter Chic

Inside: Donate your quilts to charities!

What do you do when you’ve given quilts to all your family, friends and loved ones, but you still want to sew? You donate them to a great cause!

I’ve compiled a list of charities that do wonderful things for wonderful people through quilts.

A charity I have been associated with for a few years is Quilts of Valor. This charity provides quilts to our service men and women, who have been touched by war. Returning veterans, especially the wounded, receive a quilt. QOV matches “toppers” with “long-armers,” then reports where the ...

The Silver Lining is Here from Jacquelynne Steves

A few weeks ago we did a survey to see how everyone is feeling and coping with our current world situation. I have to say, I wasn’t really surprised by our findings, it kind of confirmed what I had already been thinking.

The truth is, the quilt is designed, and we’ve already got the fabric for the kits… However, after much consideration, we have decided to postpone our Block ...

How to Enjoy a Quilt Show (Even if You’re Quarantined at Home) – Part 2 from Quilter Chic

Inside: More beautiful quilts!

UQSM is a huge machine quilting show that is held in Salt Lake City, only 10 miles from my house. Of course, it has been cancelled this year. (Read last year’s post.)

When it started, the owner of the quilt store at the time, Julie, was involved in long-arm quilting, and had taught me and another co-worker to quilt. The show was begging for quilts! I think we both gave them a couple of quilts. Now, they get quilts from the top artists around the world, and my little offerings would probably be laughed out ...

I sat there with sweaty palms, my heart beating quickly and I wondered if they would like me. Would they like my work? Would I have enough to show? It was my first trunk show, and it was circa 2008 after my first book was published. I was presenting to a local long-arm group, and I was nervous!

We, as quilters, love our quilt shows! And now they’ve all been cancelled. So sad! I thought maybe you would enjoy a virtual trunk show of my quilts. I’ll be calling it the Great Covid Trunk ...
