Dragonfly Playground from Quilting and More...

The latest quilt is now finished! I had such a good time quilting this one, especially since I wasn’t constantly fighting the weight as I moved it around under my Bernina, thanks to my new suspension system. The background fabric is a white-on-white fabric with happily flitting dragonflies, which is where I got the name […]

Harlequin Stars from Addicted to Quilts

This gorgeous quilt was made by Karen.  The pattern is Harlequin Stars by Emma Jean Jansen.  I have this pattern myself, and it is on my (very long) to do one day list.

I love the fabrics that Karen chose, and the way she has incorporated the striped fabrics.

Karen chose to have my freehand allover feather plume pattern.  I love how it gives texture and you can see the feathers in the white around the stars.  But at the same time it doesn't overpower the piecing.

The back was a vibrant green, and you can see the quilting ...

Homecoming quilt from Quilting and More...

It’s finished! Yay! Homecoming is a design from Lo & Behold Stitchery. I’d previously made another of the designs from this site, and the technique is interesting; different strips are combined in varying combinations and then cut into blocks of various sizes and shapes. It’s not always obvious where you’re going as you’re making the blocks, […]

Sweet Dreams Wholecloth Quilt - Entered in Virtual Quilt Show from Mary Manson Quilts

Sweet Dreams was inspired by some pictures I saw on the internet, I wanted to make a whole cloth quilt incorporating a dream catcher design, and have some fun being creative!

The quilt is made from a single piece of off-white satin, with wool batting and white cotton backing. I quilted a dream catcher in the center, hand beaded, with some thread painting.

In the borders I created a design that echoed the feathers and dream catchers, along with a traditional feather design. The background areas were quilted in several background fill designs. Instead of a binding, I faced the ...

Daisy from Stitchin at Home

Challenge 2 of Project QUILTING Season 12 is fussy cutting. I am going to try and make a placemat for each challenge, whether or not I'll be successful depends on what the challenge is. Time will tell if I succeed or not. The second goal I set for myself is to use fabrics from my stash/older fabrics.

Let's see how I do with this challenge and my goals. My favourite block is a star block, so that was the starting point. The fabric I choose to fussy cut was an Anna Griffin from 2013, yup time this ...

Fresh Off the Frame: A Feather-Licious Peacock Flourish Snowball Quilt for a BRAND NEW Quilter! from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Fresh off my frame, and full of fabulously scrumptious feathery texture:

I just finished quilting this snowball quilt for a customer who is also my mom -- this is her very first quilt that she's made by herself from start to finish, and she decided to make it KING size!  Didn't she do a great job?

It's a 12 x 12 layout of 8" snowball blocks that she made following the pattern in the book Quilts! Quilts! Quilts!, 3rd Ed., by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes.

Peacock Flourish Opulence Fabric, Mottled White Multi

When my mom picked out ...

Linen and Lace from Addicted to Quilts

I pieced this quilt in 2013, and quilted it around 2015 I think.  I found it packed away when I moved in March this year with the binding attached, just needing to be stitched down.  I had even made the hanging sleeve, ready to be attached.

It was a good project to work on in the first lockdown and finally have it completed.  I probably would quilt it differently if I did it now with less pebbles.  But I like the feathers and circles.

IntelliQuilter Learning Continues: Exploring Digital Pantographs for E2E + Background Fills, with No Sew Zones from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Good morning, lovelies!  After my little R.B.G. block detour, I returned to the cheater cloth panel that I'd loaded on my long arm frame for IntelliQuilter practice.  Feeling comfortable with resizing and distorting block designs to fit less-than-perfectly-square quilt blocks, I decided to practice laying out and sequencing some E2E (Edge-to-Edge) designs.  Oh my gosh, you guys -- I LOVE how my APQS machine stitches these designs out with R2D2 (yes, that's what I've named my IQ) doing the driving instead of me!  Smooth feather curves, crisp points, and perfect circle bubbles with beautiful stitches on ...

Jelly Roll Crosses from Addicted to Quilts

I made this quilt to use up a jelly roll I had won.   I quilted it with allover freehand feathers.

I plan to give it to a friend that will find a good home for it.

The back was pieced to use up some fabric I had in my stash, but you can see the quilting nicely with the white thread.

Mrs. Mary Lee's quilts (finishes) from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I finished some customer quilts! These are quilt tops hand sewn by Mrs. Mary Lee, my mom's old neighbor. Her daughter asked me to long-arm them so they can all be finished and gifted to her children and grandchildren. And probably a few great-grandchildren. Here are pictures that one of the grandchildren took and texted to me so I'd have a record of some of my quilting motifs.

Finished class sample from Quilting and More...

In my last post, I showed a small trapunto project I’d done in the series of online classes I’m taking. The next part was rouleau loops, so I’ve added those to the trapunto piece to finish it off. I’m not a huge fan of beige and only used this fabric because I had it on […]

Finished pinwheels and Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to Free Motion Mavericks, Week 288. This week I tried out different free motion quilting (FMQ) designs on the rest of the pinwheel blocks in the Pinwheels and Stars Baby Quilt.

FMQ the last three pinwheel blocks

Here are the final three pinwheel blocks. I didn't realise until I added the images here that all three blocks have FMQ in both the background and patterned fabrics.

Adding feathers

Close-up of the FMQ feathers

FMQ echoed leaves

FMQ three lines within each triangle

You may remember that I drew 10 different possible FMQ designs for these pinwheel blocks. Before ...

More hand-stitching fun from Quilting & Learning

As you may  have read previously, I've been doing a lot of slower stitching - hand stitching, mediation stitching, embroidery and other fun stuff. I'm having a blast and learning so much.

Making a seashell container

I've enrolled in the TextileArtist.org Stitch Club. It's essentially the same concept as their original Stitch Challenge, but for a fee. After all that they have given to the stitching community this spring, I wanted to keep playing and learning as well as support their great initiative.

The first artist, at the end of May, was Debbie Lyddon. She makes ...

Needs only a label . . . from Elsie Quilts

This is a practice quilt made from leftovers from Brown Scrappy I. There were five blocks and lots of bits, so with improve, this showed up. It is about 30 x 60 and my first attempt at feathers on the longarm. Don't look too close. The binding looks good though. It will hang in an obscure place in my house . Now to get the big one finished. It is 80 blocks like the five in the middle of this one, with black sashing so will need to be ditch-quilted to keep them square. Could take a while! :-)

Off and On the Longarm... from Elsie Quilts

The baby quilt is finished. A lousy picture, but I'm getting lazy in my old age. It's a panel, added a border, and practiced nine different fillers in the background. Backing is soft flannelette.

The one below is a scrappy quilt made from the leftover pieces for a larger scrappy. It is about 36 x 60 and perfect for practicing. I've never tried feathers before. I'm a coward. However, decided to attack and do some large, free-motion feathers around the outside. There are five blocks in a row and I'm doing them in simple lines ...

Birds in the Air x 4 from Stitchin at Home

Project Quilting 11.4 challenge is to use the 'Birds in the Air' block.  It’s two sizes of triangles, combined for a square block you must either use or reinterpret this traditional block. I did indeed reinterpret the block and it meets the requirements of two sizes of triangles. I used four blocks in my table topper.

I was short on time and only started making the topper yesterday at 9:30 AM. I just finished binding it this morning. I don't think I have ever made anything this fast before. Not bad considering I wasn't sure ...

Put a Heart on it Project Quilting 11.3 from Stitchin at Home

Put a heart on it, challenge three. I can't believe how fast this one came together. I started at 9:30 AM and by noon I had a finished project. I do have to confess that some of the hearts were already cut out, they were left overs from when I made 'Pinky' for my granddaughter. One of the applique methods in my tool box is Crafted Applique'. I keep extra pieces between sheets of wax paper and just pull them out when I need them.

extra pieces of treated fabric using the Crafted Applique method are stored between ...
