RSC Week 11 - More Yellow from Grandma's Red Needle

Where did the week go? It's already middle March, which means we are heading towards cooler days! Hot and sticky today.

Beginning of the week was wet and thundery. We got almost 4" rain. Not much, but every little drop counts. Mauritius is in drought (it's the rainy season and almost no rain!?) Water restrictions are put in force. Water reservoirs are about 40% or less.
Enough of weather, whatever it is, we can't do anything about it!

Over to sewing!

The RSC color for March is yellow
I made most of the blocks at the beginning ...

RSC Week 9 - March is Yellow from Grandma's Red Needle

HAPPY MARCH!

It's the first Saturday in March and many of us are ready for RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) show and tell. Angela at SuperScrappy has chosen YELLOW  for spring!

I prefer doing the RSC blocks at the beginning of each month, after Angela has chosen the color. When they are done, I'm 'free' to do whatever.
My goal this year is to finish some UFOs, so let's see how that works out his month.

I had almost forgotten I'm doing Pat Sloan's '182 Day Solstice Challenge'!
I started the BOM in May 2024, and ...

Last Saturday in February already!

More blue blocks have been made for the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) hosted by Angela at Superscrappy

Curves for 'Eclipse'

3 big blocks

...and 3 small blocks

Cups for 'Coffee with Dad'

I LOVE the gecko fabric and I had just enough left for one cup!

Two scrappy blocks

These will go together with the accumulation (!) of 36-patches (made from 2.5") I've made earlier. You can see some of them here (UFOs/WIPs #2)

RSC Week 5 - February is BLUE and a Squirrel popped In from Grandma's Red Needle

Happy February!
Where did January go?!

February; it means a new RSC (Rainbow Scrap Color). Angela at SuperScrappy has chosen BLUE for this month.

Three blue cups are made.
I'll make maybe two or three more.

I didn't expect the squirrel to visit! It was good in a way, I needed a short break from quilting ten place mats for a customer.

This is what the squirrel got me to do:

5 scrappy blocks using pink (January RSC color) in the center.

...and three blue.
Do you see the pink and blue cats?

I got to use a ...

RSC 2025 Week 4 - January is PINK from Grandma's Red Needle

A new year is here (already end of January!) and so is RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) hosted by Angela at Superscrappy.

I've been participating in RSC since 2023 and now I'm running out of some colors. PINK is one of them. In 2023, I had approximately 13 yards, + already cut squares in different sizes. Arreli's quilt was made the same year, using pink front and back, all from my stash. Pink blocks were made as well as some items for my Etsy Shop. You can see them all here

I've been looking for more pink in ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 15 of 2024 from Life In Pieces

I'm a bit late posting this morning. I'm a bit dragged out from all the travel.  We spent all of last week in Texas. The big draw was the eclipse on Monday, but we stayed a few extra days to spend some time with Grad Girl.  I shared one of my photos earlier this week. My Guy used his DSLR and a filter.  Here are some of his shots.

As you can see in the photos, the cloud cover cleared just before totality, but was back before the eclipse ended.

As we were on the road all of ...

Midweek: eclipse, National Library Week + hollyhocks from With Strings Attached

It was cloudless and 65 degrees on Monday -- perfect for viewing the eclipse.  We were in the 94% totality region.  I had to explain to Stevens why we were out in the back yard. He went back inside after a while. I stayed out for all of it.   I had only my iPhone and no special filter so my snapshots don't show much.

It did not get dark here but the quality of the sunlight changed, the temperature dropped slightly, and a breeze kicked up.

Photo: holding iPhone up to the lens of the eclipse glasses.

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 4/9/2024 from Life In Pieces

The big thing that wasn't on my to do list for last week was to watch the eclipse. We ventured down to Texas so we could see totality.  My Guy had the special filters and such for his camera, I didn't get that motivated. Even so,  I did get a cool photo during totality.

We'd had mostly cloudy skies all morning, but we got lucky and the sun was in a clear patch for almost all of totality.  This photo was taken with my cell phone with no filters.  My Guy had his DSLR set up with ...

The world of Social Media from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK, so I caved and binge-watched all the episodes of that romance scam. Then, I started to do some research. OH MY GOSH --- you would not believe it, but the amount of money involved in romance scams is HUGE!!!! I believe this statistic is worldwide to the tune of $1.3 billion (involving 70,000 people). That was in 2022, and the numbers are probably much higher. And that is of the people who came forward. How many others did not?

This is just for romance scams, not any of the other types of fraud. It is big business for ...

Weekly update: out and about, eclipse day, goal progress + reading from With Strings Attached

Today is eclipse day.  Though I'm writing this post beforehand I hope to get some photos to add this afternoon.

We two Rotarians had Kiwanis pancakes at the Moose lodge -- that's cultural diversity.   I bought $30 in raffle tickets and won three baskets.  (I've already donated one to another community group for their upcoming spaghetti dinner fundraiser.)

We enjoyed a concert Sunday afternoon.  Great covers of Sinatra and other classic vocals.

My program had one of the winning stickers for a door prize, a dessert from a local bakery.

Sunday Funday Catching Up from Allen Quilts

This past week, my quilting attention went mostly to this lovely Optical Illusions quilt that I am quilting for a client. She made it for her 16 year old grandson. I felt a little intimidated by it at first, but this has actually turned out to be so much fun to work on. The center… Continue reading Sunday Funday Catching Up

Sunday Chat – Stamping and Serging from From My Carolina Home

This past week, I managed to eek out a bit of time for some creative fun, and stamped a few more cards for the boutique. I think I’ll stop at 30 to have for sale. The great thing is if they don’t sell, I’ll have them to use myself. I love this sentiment!

Two more with a different sentiment. I put this same saying on the inside of a few other cards.

Are you in the path of the total solar eclipse? See my posts from 2017 when we were able to see one. First, Preparing for ...
