This is the title of my latest YouTube video where I talk about how easy it is to talk oneself out of creating something new. Ever had the experience of thinking – “I’m going to design something new, I don’t know what yet, but something!” and then you sit down and suddenly you’re thinking about… Continue reading Creating Anyway

For seven days I did not step foot outside our loft. Since the pandemic became known as such, I have ventured out only occasionally. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that I tested negative to having COVID19 antibodies, and yet, weirdly I was. And perhaps even odder, I felt both relieved and disappointed simultaneously.… Continue reading Staying Home & Creating
read moreI know today’s Thursday because I post a new blog Tuesdays and Thursdays, and also because I have my glasses on and my iWatch conveniently tells me that it’s Thu April 23rd. I also now know that it’s cloudy outside, and at this moment 42℉. Of course, one is putting a great deal of faith… Continue reading I’ve Lost All Track of Time & Other Thoughts During This Pandemic
read moreI haven't stepped foot out of our house since Saturday, but I have had hundreds of interactions with people from all over the world, which is both amazing and delightful. Community. During a period when we cannot actually be with our friends and extended family, connecting over common interests is all the more desirable.
read moreI have had requests to share a pattern for the masks I am donating. This pattern was originally found on the Craft Passion website. I give all the credit possible to this site for the original pattern. After making a bunch of the masks, I have tweeked the pattern to be a bit more fitted. Now I am super happy with the fit, and it is a very easy pattern to assemble.

I’ve already sewn over 150 face masks to give-away to friends and family. This is not a medical mask, but a mask to use for home, grocery ...

I had a small window between major projects to make a few masks. There are many design options, tutorials and videos to help every kind of sewer popping all over the internet.
Among them, is the Craft Passion’s pattern and tutorial.
I decided to make the Type C pattern with pocket and removable nose wire.

Beautiful Island Batik fabric is a good choice for this project. Batik fabric has a tight weave and is a good option for non medical masks.
Instead of the shoelace as seen in the Craft Passion video, I used Bonnie’s Craft ...
read moreI’m not sleeping much these days. The up-side is I’m getting a ton of stuff done. Also, photographs of empty New York City streets, though eerie, have a certain grace to them. I only venture out every few days, but when I do, I’m struck by the same things: the exquisite beauty of New York… Continue reading Courage is not the Absence of Fear…
read moreThe juxtaposition of the dire and frightening, with the joy and hopefulness that inevitably arrives with spring and warmer weather, is on display everywhere here in New York City, the city that has been my home for almost 40 years. At no time in my life have I been more aware of death. The collaborative… Continue reading Here We Are: A City & its People Transformed

Life has utterly changed in such a short time, it has left most of us reeling. And yet, we find ways to adapt. It is… Continue reading Coping and the Pandemic In New York City
read moreNew York City has now earned the dubious distinction of being the epicenter of the pandemic. I know 6 people whose doctor’s believe they are sick with COVID19, though without the ability to test anyone unless they are incapable of breathing on their own, it’s impossible to verify, and another handful of people who are… Continue reading New York City During the Pandemic
read moreI spent this past weekend researching and making face masks. I wanted to read as much as I could on the efficacy of face masks, since we’ve been given a great deal of differing opinions. When the U.S. began talking about COVID19 it was generally advised that we not buy and wear face masks. It… Continue reading How To Make a Face Mask – And the Research Behind it
