Interesting! Courthouse steps, straight and curved, and sometimes the steps only go one way! (That might confuse the crook who is guilty as charged and tries to escape.)

Every week I am amazed by the variety of ways Log Cabin blocks can be used.

I like the last design included in this week’s mid week retreat … but my favourite for today is the second one.

 I have to say how great it was to read all your dinner ideas in the comment section of the last post.  Quite a nice array and I will definitely be looking back at it for ideas. It seems I get tired of our usual fare and feel stumped from time to time. Quiltgramma (no blog) mentioned an idea for a slow cooker meal that would cook overnight. The daily rain finally stopped and we had sun yesterday that felt glorious. I spent as much time outside as I could. It was a quiet kind of day and I noticed for the first time, leaves gently letting go and falling from the trees. Our little pond has been fully restored and the burgundy Sedum was beautiful in the sunlight.

 I need to show you what I bought at the Value Village that I liked and thought was a bargain.  Here she is, Girl With Blue Ball.  She is porcelain and was fashioned between 1924 and 1974 by Nao ...

 Rule #6 Walk Tall.  In keeping with the walking...One of my aims during my year leading up to 70 was to be as fit as I could be. And part of that was improving my posture.  With decades of bending over childrens' heads and desks and a needle or book etc., well let's just say,  I was not happy with my posture. And I have a fear of developing a hump on my back.

 So I made a conscious effort all of last year to improve  it.  I read a little about it and also watched YouTube videos ...

A friend said to me a few years ago, Jocelyn, now we are the grandmothers. Since reading The Overstory, I've been more aware of trees. I still count as one of my duties here to name all the trees; I'm sure many are represented just outside my front door. Though I do not think our woods are enchanted, the sounds I hear there are kind of enchanting to me.  For instance, early one morning, I heard two barred owls hoot to each other from different parts of the woods. Then a couple of cardinals chimed in, also distances apart, to sing their tuit tuit calls. Meanwhile, chickadees were chirping continuously and a couple ...

When I opened this project there were no designs in there that I haven’t already shared, so I picked some designs and made some simple changes to ten of them, so not only did I get designs for today, I have five more to share another day.

I even like the last design though the thought of trying to put this one together makes my head spin.

 I've been a bundle of thoughts since I last wrote a post. So much bad news in the news and sadness abounding it seems. And this heat...which I say feels like you're stepping out into warm, thick pea soup, has also served to dampen my spirits and sapped my little energy along with it. How hot has it been?  So hot Hubby is wearing a short sleeved t-shirt without a long sleeved shirt over it. I've never seen him wear such before.

From a distance I can hear a familiar summertime drone; a neighbour is mowing his lawn. This is the good neighbour to us as he often mows our section of the front lawn on the street to save Hubby having to go all the way out there with our mower. We are so sorry they are leaving. They sold their house quickly having discussed for ages and finally made the decision to downsize. The fact that they are much younger than us is not lost on us.  And some days we do question us living here and trying hard to ...

 Birds chirping early morning. Still lots fluttering about and to spy on. The second phoebe nest on the back wall of the house is active with both hard working parents bringing food. The young stay very quiet so I haven't a clue how many are there or were in the neighbouring nest either. They tolerate us now using the patio doors I notice. Phoebes are relatively easy to photograph because they take little rests between their frequent flights to capture flying insects. I read they eat over 700 such insects a day... if they are mosquitoes, all good.

Love the first design of the day.

Also love the second! I don’t think I will be able to select a favourite from todays selection of designs.

I have to admit to never making a Log Cabin quilt, but have been part of a group effort, and the lesson we learned is noted here, The Quarter-inch Seam for Work Groups.

Yet another great design … in my never really humble opinion.

I can’t stop loving these designs!

Interesting start to this weeks five minute Log Cabin Retreat.

Change four blocks and the design changes, and I like the change.

Big changes for the next design …

… change four blocks and I like it more.

It never ceases to amaze me how small changes can make a big difference to a design. That is why I love Electric Quilt.

I can change a design many, many times without damaging any fabric.

Last design for this week, and I like it just as it is … but there is still an urge to play.

This is the final installment from the City Courthouse project file, but I suspect that these blocks may appear in a new colourway sometime in the future.

Wow!

When you can get results like the one above by making the same block with the colours moved around a bit, why are so many quilts made with identical blocks?

A few relatively small changes and you get the results above, which is why I love Electric Quilt. Even when I get a design I love, I can save it and make changes to see if there is something better ...

Middle of another week, which means time to take a little time out to look at some Log Cabin variation quilt designs.

I like the first one of today’s selelction.

More traditional arrangement of fabrics in the second one, otherwise similar to the first.

Pretty basic blocks, interesting design in the third.

Love the fourth one!

Love the last, which is also my favourite of the day, and this is the last design in this project file, so another file to go into the archives.

More log Cabin related quilt designs mid week, next week.

Middle of the week, and a collection of Log Cabin quilt designs to look at during a short break from the rest of the world.

I like the first one, not so keen on the second, but thought it was too interesting to hit the delete button.

The middle design for the mid week post … and the least I could say about it is wow! that is interesting.

Back to an almost boring design by comparison to the one in the middle, but I like it, and love the waving line created by Curved Log Cabin blocks.

The last is ...

The mid week log cabin retreats have been out of their usual schedule this month, but you will not miss out on seeing about the same number of designs as any other month.

It will be like attending a quilter’s retreat without leaving home, though I don’t think I will mention to people in my real life I am spending a few days retreating … virtually!

The second and third designs today are almost the same … but not quite. Hope you can see the difference, and I like both of them.
