Quilt Shops: Double Delight! from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. My dear friend, Debi, picked me up this morning, and we visited two quilt shops before we were finished for the day. Is there a better way to spend a day than fabric shopping with a friend? I think not.

Before Debi arrived, I went to work on a dessert I wanted to make for St. Patrick's Day. Lacking any Irish Cream, I ended up making something else. In the interim, we acquired the missing ingredient, and so I baked this up this morning. This is Chocolate Shamrock Bread Pudding. We haven't actually tasted ...

Avocados and Temecula from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. We've had a leisurely morning and an outing already today. In about an hour, we'll head over to the home of some friends for a nice dinner. My contribution is this Orange Upside-Down Cake.

This was originally a test recipe from America's Test Kitchens. Sometimes I make this as a cake for two, but this is the full meal deal. I've figured out I can post recipes from the Paprika app if I first convert them to black and white. This one still seems a little small. Where the salt is listed ...

Starlink is Back! from ... Cat Patches

Hooray! Our Starlink connection is up and running again. Mike is convinced the problem we've had with ours was simply a fluke. Many, many, many RVers are using Starlink without problems, and so we think we just got a defective dish. They sent us a complete new system. Mike hooked it up with our old dish, and it still didn't work. When he switched to the new dish...magic! And I'm not kidding about the magic. I gave up trying to understand how things work back in the mid-70's when FAX machines first became widely available ...

Corned Beef from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I’ve mentioned on here before that I love corned beef and Vince doesn’t. Apparently, he just didn’t like the way I was cooking it. Today I made The Salted Pepper’s Corned Beef and it was delicious. Vince said “This is the best corned beef you’ve ever made. I normally don’t like it and I love...

Life with Metal from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. It was a "life" day today. Mike has been outside most of the day. First, he washed the windows. Then he went around, wiping off the whole RV with a rag and a bucket. The man is very picky about his toys.

I've done three loads of laundry today and I made a macaroni salad for tonight's dinner. We're having BLATs. Those are BLT's with some avocado added. If you've been keeping count, you should know that I'm gaining on my goal to use avocados 1,001 different ways. We ...

Tan Your Hide in Oceanside from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends! Or maybe I should say, good evening. We're nearing dinner time here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. Before I forget, I wanted to tell you the Starlink unit is set to be delivered Monday. Yay! (I know y'all have been waiting on tenterhooks for that announcement. You can rest easy now.)

So here's how we spent our day. We had lunch at the Oceanside Broiler in the Oceanside Harbor. This was the view from our table.

After lunch, we headed to the Oceanside Pier. This is something of a pilgrimage for Mike ...

Wine Country from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. We spent a lovely day with our friends Debi and Jim. They are members at several of the wineries north of Escondido in the city of Temecula. I'll say more about that in a minute, but first I had some kitchen duties to take care of.

A few days ago, I received an email from America's Test Kitchens with a recipe for testing. It was for a Pumpkin Gingersnap Icebox Cake. Looking it over, it seemed easy enough to do in the RV. There was no baking involved...just a little microwaving of the ...

Cooking with Confits, & Baking Fun from From My Carolina Home

Ever since I got the confits from Milk Street, I’ve been using them in various dishes. I’ve been experimenting with how much to use and where they have an impact in flavor. I’ve found so far that they do very well in dishes with ground meats, and in sauces. I am particularly pleased with the fact that all are made of ingredients that are natural, without chemicals or preservatives. They worked well in the Beef Stroganoff dish I made first, but I didn’t take any photos of that one. Here are three of the dishes that ...

Text and Texture from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. It was a "life happens" kind of day. We had to do some grocery shopping. Our nav unit sent us off on a wild goose chase. We went to where it told us to go only to find literally nothing there. No buildings of any kind. Just wild brush. Okay, so we tried Google maps and drove right to it. No idea where our nav unit thought it was going.

We left the kitties in peaceful slumber, and they were there to greet us when we got back. Smitty likes his window perch.

The Kitchen Lab from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Some days my kitchen does feel like a lab but a big part of what I have been working on happens partly in the kitchen and partly in the basement. I love having coffee extract but haven’t made any in a good while. I was talking to a friend last night who also loves making...

Spring, Sprang, Sprung from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. Did you remember to spring ahead today? And just because I worded the question that way, please don't feel obligated to "spring." If you prefer, you can just sit down and slide one hour ahead. It's perfectly fine.

It's been a busy morning here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. We're having dinner with friends this evening to celebrate the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. (Some of us actually like it.) I'm contributing dessert, and so I busied myself making an apple crisp. We'll take along some vanilla ice cream ...

San Francisco Sightseeing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a fabulous day yesterday. The weather was dry and relatively warm. We even had some sun breaks for our day at the outskirts of San Francisco. The lighthouse didn't open until 12:30 pm, and so we had a leisurely morning. I started some chili in the slow cooker, and then I baked this scaled-down recipe of Debi's Skillet Cornbread to make it a "for two" recipe. It worked out great.

Mike was trying some new things related to the Starlink to see if we can get it running again. Nothing he ...
