Fast Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a gray, foggy, and rainy day. I wish we could send this moisture to Los Angeles. It's the one day of rain we're expecting. We should be back to sunshine and blue skies by tomorrow.

My day was pretty easy yesterday. I took a walk on the treadmill, and then I went to work baking some Carrot-Apple Muffins with Citrus Glaze. I swear there were a dozen when I took them out of the oven. Mike snagged one before I could get a picture.

In all honesty, I snagged one right after ...

Baking & Piecing from Quilts....etc.

Two more log cabin blocks done I could have gotten more done but I also did laundry and some cleaning – that cut into my sewing machine time – 22 more blocks to make! I had bread rising while I was making the blocks (and laundry going – doing 3 things at once!) this is […]

Apple Bran Muffins from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this before on here. I’m sure I have because I’ve not stopped thinking about the apple bran muffins I used to get at McDonald’s . . of all places! I’m not sure if McDonald’s still has the apple bran muffins – haven’t been in one in at least four...

Back to the Day-to-Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Isn't is great when the holidays are over? I like spending time with family and eating good food as much as the next person, but geez. I always reach January 2nd feeling as if I'm on holiday overload. I'll be glad to have the roads and stores less busy, and I'll be glad not to be making preparations for the next celebratory thing. Of course, there's lots to do between now and then, but I know my thoughts are going to be turning toward our trip to Alaska in May. Our ...

Festive Season 2024 from The Quilt Quine

It is a long drive from Devon to Glasgow in a Mini but so worth it to spend a week with all of my favourite children. We spent a chilly couple of days in Glasgow then went up to Aberdeenshire for Christmas. It was a bit weird seeing all that I had left behind and realising that I have stuff in storage that I don’t need but plenty of things at Brigton which I could do with. The furniture had been rearranged so there were not any really comfy chairs to lounge around in. It was discovered that I ...

Freeze Drying Ground Beef from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I’ve had the Harvest Right freeze dryer for 6-1/2 years now. During the summer, it runs probably 80% of the time – day and night. This time of year, there’s not a lot to freeze dry but if I find something on sale – bell peppers, zucchini, fruit, etc., I’ll get enough to fill the...

Canning ALL Day from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

First, thank you all so very much for noticing the “V” missing on For the Love of Nature. Please don’t ever feel bad about pointing out a mistake. Every now and then, someone will point out a mistake that was actually in the chart and I’m happy to explain why I stitched it that way....

Some Little Finishes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another day when I'm writing fast. We're going to try to get our grocery shopping for the week done this morning. As I believe I mentioned yesterday, we're having a couple of our neighbors up for dinner on New Year's Day, and I need to get some things for that. (I should actually say, "our neighbors, who are a couple," not the whole neighborhood.) And, of course, as long as we're going, I have next week's menu planned and on the shopping list too. It always ends up ...

Prime Rib Stroganoff, and Virtual Retreat from From My Carolina Home

Christmas dinner at our home has been a prime rib for many years now. It is an expensive cut, a special treat for the holiday. I use a slow cook method that results in lovely medium rare center, with the end slices a bit more done for My Sweet Babboo. We enjoy it on Christmas day, with another meal the next day.

After the big meal, extra slices make fabulous sandwiches on sourdough bread (or my homemade Egg Bread) with horseradish sauce.

When all the really good slices have been eaten, the leftover ribs and trimmings can be turned into ...

Trip To Kelso from Quilting My Way

This morning, I slept in and loved it. It felt good. I think I was awake around 4 pm and trying to get back to sleep. Must not have been as long as I thought because the next think, I knew it was 9 am.

I enjoyed about an hour of just watching TV and playing my games. Then after I showered, I got busy with making croutons out of the bread that Geralyn gave us. It was awesome!

Patrick had half the bowl eaten and has a little less than this left. He loves his croutons! I had a ...

Counting Down to the New Year from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Some of you probably still have your Christmas decorations out. Ours are all put away, and we've moved into winter mode. On the dining room table, I've added the Icy Blues table runner.

That was a free pattern from All People Quilt.

On our breakfast bar, I added the quilt I call "Whose Woods are These."

That one was a free pattern from Patchalot Patterns.

Finally, a Scrappy Snowflake wall-hanging for the short wall between our kitchen and dining room.

And that was a free pattern from Lake Girl Quilts. So, come on, Winter ...

L. Reuteri “Yogurt” Results & Taste Test from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

So far, we are very happy with the L. reuteri “yogurt” I’ve made. In this blog post, I talked about it. The recipe/technique I’m using is from Dr. Davis. In the linked post, there’s a video as well as written instructions. The video will lead you to other videos where he discusses the health benefits...

Merry Christmas from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and

I hope all of your Christmas dreams come true today. It's always been our family's tradition to celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. And so when the celebration ended last night, Christmas was finished for us. All that's left now is the clean-up.

We had a wonderful family dinner. We were expecting Mae's mother to join us, but then she wasn't feeling well and decided to stay home. And so it was just the five of us at our table. It's been quite a while since we were all together ...

Merry Christmas Eve from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Santa comes tonight. I'm pretty sure he's not bringing me anything. We don't even have a chimney, so he'd have to break down the door to get inside anyway. Maybe I'll just turn out the lights. Better safe than sorry. I've warned the kitties about the reindeer, and they're keeping an eagle eye out.

Yeah...that's an old picture, but it's one of my favorites of Smitty. He'd just seen the bobcat that sometimes roams around here.

So it was a day of cooking yesterday, and ...
