We Can Quilt It... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I have had this panel for many years

and it is time to put it together...

I sandwiched this together with

Pellon Fusible Foam...

The foam gives incredible definition

to the machine quilting...

This is mostly free motion quilting

with a little bit of ruler work...

Back side...

Back Side...

I stitched both pieces together

then cut out the bottom corners

to create a bag with a flat bottom...

The lining is in and I am

topstitching around the top edge...

I used heavy cardboard and covered it

with fabric to put in the bottom of the bag...

Bottom of ...

Immediately followed by a GROVE of Charley Harper scrappy birch trees.

BAG IT UP! from Kwilty Pleasures

I started with a pile of ideas in the form of fabrics hat will become bags.

I like to pull fabrics and patterns and work thru the bags in my
own time.  I cut many out in one day, add batting and quilt another day,
add zippers another day and sew on!

This was a tiny zipper pouch I made for my niece Gemma.

Too cute!

I have lots of novelty prints for yarn / knitting.

And I finished 3 zippered project bags.

And there was fabric for a fun Christmas zipper bag.

Love this one!

I have been collecting JUMBO Ric Rac...

It is time to put it to good use...

I pieced together a couple of fabrics

for zipper bags...

This red jumbo Ric Rac works

nicely on this zipper bag...

I used the leftover red zipper as a handle

and added a lady bug zipper pull...

I lined the bag with green bubble fabric...

I pawed through the fabric cupboard and found

small odds and ends for more bags...

These fabrics and ric rac work well together

Bags from Espritpatch

It seems that somehow the end of the school year has crept on me even more than usual... I suddenly realised last Sunday that the kids were about to start their last week, i.e. that teachers' presents were needed to be completed by the end of the week but I hadn't even made a start... I needed 4 this year and one was needed by Wednesday morning not Friday + Wednesday evening was the annual fete de la musique (music festival for the summer solstice) which meant that that was one last evening to work on the presents.

I ...

Is a website still relevant for Creatives? from JustPlainLaine

I had forgotten how much work a website is.  I have test patterns to make, swaps to complete, and a whole lot of dyeing and video making to do.

But….here I sit working on my website.  At least I can sort of do it when the migraine wanes…. I don’t dare put needle to cloth until it is over.

Back in the fall when I decided NOT to have a website anymore (read previous blog for the sad details), I could not really come up with a good reason to put in all of the work.

Fast forward ...

Donkey Tote Bag... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I ordered these 2 little panels last year...

I couldn't resist them...

I decided to make a 2 sided tote bag with them:

on the bottom portion of the bag...

I lined the panels with

Fusible Foam Stabilizer...

Here they are quilted and ready

to be turned into a bag...

Ta - Da.....Done !

How FUN it will be to pack this

bag around with me !

They are quite large and will hold lots !

Brown batik lining...

This was a fast and fun quilted project !

Today is My Day - Say What? from Creatin' in the Sticks

Welcome
to the Sticks
and
 the second day of the
"Say What?"
Challenge

Here is my finish:  Today Is My Day

Joan at MooseStashQuilting invited a great group of Bloggers to
create something inspired by something they have to say.
Thanks, Joan, for inviting me!

I listened to a motivational speaker once and he said that we should tell ourselves
every morning that "this is my day".

So when I found this project in the book "Sew Illustrated" by Minki Kim and Kristin Esser
I tweaked it from "This is the Day" to "This is MY Day.

I've been ...

Pinestream Quilters from Wendy's Quilts and More

Last night I was the guest speaker at Pinestream Quilters in Upper Hutt, Wellington.

I've spoken to Pinestream Quilters previously, so I decided to take along some of my bags and tapestry cushions, as well as my most recently finished quilts of course.

Everyone loved my Giraffe tapestry cushion designed by Kim McLean.  I thought that they were no longer available, but upon checking I see that they are back in stock at the Crewel Gobelin in Sydney here.  You can read more about my cushion and how I attached the tassels here.

I also talked about bag making ...

Train Case from Wendy's Quilts and More

My first finish of 2023.

Months ago I saw a beautiful Liberty train case for sale in a shop.  It was pretty pricey, so I decided to make my own version.

Now I know why it was pricey - they are very fiddly!

This one ended up bigger than my original plan, but the smaller you go, the more fiddly it gets.

I ended up using Mink Kim's pattern from Sewing Illustration for Cutie Cube Bag, with quite a few modifications. Mine is sized somewhere between her big and small sizes.  Mine has the binding on the outside rather than ...

September 2022 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

My OMG for September was to complete my Art quilt Group’s improv challenge.

I started with white fabric and added glue as a resist.

Then I painted it.

Then I washed out the glue and added texture with paintstik over a rubbing plate.

Then I added more paint.

To make it useful, I turned it into a project bag.

Bag Front

I had a lot of fun returning to my surface design roots. The challenge is to do something with the fabrics. This time around I’m committed to using it as I create it.

Little makes from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Events pop up and I am often inspired to make something and have little time to meet my deadlines. And two of the events were in August.

First, Cindy celebrated an important birthday.  I had no idea what to do for her until the day before her birthday.  She recently purchased her first serger—a Bernette Funlock 64.  I made a serger mat with threadcatcher.  The pattern is from allpeoplequilt.com:

I took no photos.  Again, one of those lost in the moment times. But I FaceTimed with Cindy this weekend and asked her to take ...
