In Like A Lion? from From the Strawberry Patch...

How did your March kick-off? Did it come in like a lion? Ours was chilly and rainy but not too cold to nip the abundant daffodils who are joyfully showing off right now. I'm participating in two blocks-of-the month currently. This one, left, is part of the Barn Star class from the book by Shelley Cavanna. My fabric choices are from the Dry-brush Essentials line by Wilmington Fabrics. I wanted my

Anniversary Trip, shopping and knitting from Romany Quilting

Our Anniversary Trip was winding down.  But I did have time for a little shopping therapy.  Not much really, I was after some cream  wide backing for a project nearing completion, and while there picked up two half yard cuts of pink and green fabric for my daughter’s upcoming big birthday quilt. Nicky doesn't like “bright – in your face” types of colours so I found a couple of muted shades for her.

Our Big Day from Romany Quilting

Sunday arrived, our 40th Anniversary.  After breakfast, we drove out to one of the things on our “must do” list, the Redwoods Treewalk.  Driving into the carpark, we noticed walkways in the trees above criss crossing overhead.  Tickets purchased, we were given a briefing about allowable numbers on the walkways and platforms, and don't touch the trees as it can harm the bark, we were on our way up the spiral walkway.

We weren't sure how we would both manage up in the tree tops, but it was very easy walking indeed.  The ...

Anniversary Trip from Romany Quilting

Our 40th Anniversary was fast approaching so we needed to decide how we wanted to celebrate.  I'm the social secretary in this household and after throwing a few ideas around, we decided on an Anniversary Trip, ending up in Rotorua.  This is where we spent our honeymoon, all those years ago!  But first, we needed to drive through to Ohaupo, Hamilton, the collect the caravan.  Our caravan Romany Rambler had been driven up to Leisureline Ohaupo just a week before Robin’s knee replacement operation, and left there for some work to be done.  They kindly stored it for ...

It's March... from From the Strawberry Patch...

... and it's coming in like a lamb here today; what's the weather like where you are? Up at my Mom and Dad's in New Hampshire they're buried under snow with more forecast to fall on Saturday. My Dad loves it but my Mom has had enough already! Speaking of my parents, today is their 71st wedding anniversary! This picture was taken a while ago, but you can see how cute they are! Happy Anniversary,

Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and Anniversary from Romany Quilting

Another RSC top done, using some of the flag blocks I misplaced and then found again.  This joins two other RSC tops I made from four patch blocks, which I had completed a month or so ago.  So that’s three RSC tops ready and waiting to be quilted!  I found this picture on the internet somewhere or other, and decided it was a pretty way to assemble some of my flag blocks, in pink, pale blue, yellow and purple.  I substituted plain squares for the corner flag blocks, and framed each block.

Happy Anniversary from Mama Spark's World

We celebrated our 39th anniversary on the 13th.  Hubby wanted to go to the Toledo zoo.  That's where we spent the day together.  We have not been there in YEARS.  There was an art show going on so some of the exhibits were not easy to see.  We had fun and on the way home we stopped at Dickie's BBQ for dinner.  They are all just big kitties.Such a cool splash pad for the kiddos.CHEERS to another

Every Quilt Tells A Story from From the Strawberry Patch...

Back in the spring our daughter-in-law's father asked me if I could help him; he wanted to make a quilt to give to his wife to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their first date. Naturally, the first question I asked was "when's the anniversary?" He told me that it was in mid-November. "Sure", I said, "there's plenty of time, be thinking about what you'd like, design-wise". Since then, off and

wedding, reunions, and anniversaries . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I said May's a wrap in my last post . . . but I forgot to take into account our day on the lake with our favorite local grands!
Before we headed out, we stopped to put gas in the boat.  We were docked behind a sweet cabin cruiser that was sweetly named!
So we celebrated Memorial Day in the water.  It was still a little cool, but all the girls wanted to swim and splash, so we did.  Purple lips and all! Seriously, once I got in, I knew I had to stay in, or I'd never take the plunge ...

Pumping Up The Volume from From the Strawberry Patch...

After getting the Star Flower quilt all quilted and the binding attached, I needed a bit more color saturation to brighten the day. I dug deep into my bin of 4.5" square scraps and after a quick pass through the die cutter I set to work on this scrappy hexagon quilt. It's vibrant and fun. I have half of it pieced as it's shown here on the design wall. It will measure 56" X 72" at completion,

Marriage & An Anniversary from Where Art & Life Meet

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary to this guy. To say that I feel lucky doesn’t begin to tell the whole story. We met at a Christmas party on Christmas Day in 1998. Neither of us were expecting to meet the person that would completely change our lives, and yet, that’s exactly what happened. I… Continue reading Marriage & An Anniversary

splashing into autumn . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Hey hey!  Just checking in before we head into the weekend.  We enjoyed a lovely, beautiful day on the lake on Monday.  The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.  We're at that time of the year where sometimes the water, at 85 degrees, is warmer than the air temp!
That means we spend LOTS of time in the water (because it's too cold to come out)!  The girls had a blast splashing and swimming. Edith even decided it was her day to jump off the boat into the water, multiple times.  She was a champ!  But we ...
