Storm at Sea Island Batik Blog Hop from Curlicue Creations

Hello!  Welcome to my day on the Island Batik Ambassador Storm at Sea blog hop.  This is my Storm at Sea quilt, made with the new Petal Pathway fabric collection by Kathy Engle.  My quilt is still a top, as it took a lot longer to piece together than I had planned.  I wasn't even sure I liked it until I took this photo.  Sometimes it's hard to see how a quilt is coming out while you're working on it up close.

Disclosure:  The products used to make this project were generously provided by Island Batik, Aurifil ...

Halloween Gnomes Quilt from Expect Moore

I wanted to play with the Gnome die on my Accuquilt GO! machine, but I wasn’t ready to start on Christmas quilts yet. So, I thought I’d try stitching up a gnome using Halloween fabric. I made one, and immediately fell in love with how it looked! I knew I wanted to make more, but […]

Free Scrap Quilt Block Tutorials from Blossom Heart Quilts

I don’t know about you, my scraps seem to multiply faster than I can use them… or give them away! (I pass on the pieces that are too small or oddly shaped to a friend who will use them!) I used to barely use my scraps because I was not a fan of the super, super scrappy look. It felt too disorganised and cluttered for me personally (if that’s your jam, all power to you!) But I’ve since realised that I do love making scrappy quilts – those that are controlled scrappy. Controlled scrappy is where there’s ...

Try a Tool Blog Hop featuring the Orchid Table Runner from Curlicue Creations

Hello!  Welcome to my little corner of the Island Batik Try a Tool blog hop.  This is what I made, the Orchid table runner.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.

For this blog hop, I was pleased to use this glorious new fabric collection, Fancy Feathers, by Kathy Engle, for Island Batik.  I love all colors, but purples are my favorite.  This collection sings to my heart.
If you love it as much as I do, these should be in your local quilt shop now.  Also, I will ...

Never Too Early featuring the Jolly Holiday Christmas Tree Skirt from Curlicue Creations

The Island Batik Ambassador July challenge was to make a holiday themed project.  I chose to make a Christmas tree skirt, as I've never had one.  My poor tree has been wrapped in a red and green plaid table cloth all these years.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
I designed my Christmas tree skirt in EQ8.  I was surprised at how easy and fun it was to make this project.

I used the new Holly Holiday by Kathy Engle fabric collection.  I really love the gold ...

The Corner Four Patch Quilt from Quiltnotes All Blogs

The Corner 4-Patch block finishes at 8" and is easy and fun to make. There is a 4-patch unit in the corner. The rest of the block consists of a 4″ square and a 4″ x 8″ rectangle. Use scraps, fat quarters, yardage or a combination of all three. Use strip piecing, patchwork piecing or both to construct this unit.

4-Patch: Finished size is 4". Made with 2-1/2" strips cut from width of fabric (WOF) of one dark and one light fabric. To really make the 4-patch pop, choose light and dark fabrics that contrast with the field fabrics ...

Double Irish Chain Scrap Quilt ~ A Beginning from Curlicue Creations

I've had this Black Pearl strip pack by Island Batik for a while, and I finally broke it open to make a new Double Irish Chain Scrap quilt.  I love these fabrics so much, and sometimes when I feel that way it's harder to choose a project.  It's like I don't want to use it up, I just want to enjoy looking at it for a while.

Disclaimer:  This fabric was given to me by Island Batik at no cost to me.
I'm making this quilt the hard way, by cutting my fabrics all up ...

Spread Love and Joy featuring Morning Star from Curlicue Creations

Meet Morning Star.  This is my Island Batik Ambassador challenge project for June.

This month's theme is Spread Love and Joy with Accuquilt.  The guidelines are to create a gift of comfort, using the Accuquilt die we received in our first ambassador box of the year combined with designs from the 8" Qube dies.

Note:  The materials used to create this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners Accuquilt, Aurifil, Hobbs, and Schmetz.

I was super excited to receive the Morning Star die.  It's fabulous!  It looks a little intimidating with all those triangles ...

New Hexie Project Prep from Curlicue Creations

Have you seen my new hexagon EPP (English Paper Piecing) project yet?  I've posted a few in progress pics on Instagram and Facebook recently.  I've just begun stitching the pieces together.  This is how it all begins.  I like to cut out my hexagon shapes with the Accuquilt die.  I favor the smallest size.

For this project, I cut all my fabrics from my Island Batik stash.

I cut out a variety of sunset colors, pinks, yellows, oranges.

A variety of blues, some stormy, some twilight.

And black too, some solid, some not.

More sunset hexies.  Can you ...

Island Batik June Challenge - Novella from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik Challenge for June 2021 reads as follows:

The challenge for you is to use the 8” or 12” finished BOB dies from your Ambassador box, the GO! Qube 8" Mix & Match Block and create a whole new pattern by combining the two!

Here is my response

Novella, 11" by 66"

And here is the Story.

BOB means Block on Board. In other words, the complete block is on a single die. I received Snails Trails Die.

Snails Trail BOB Die

All units in one place

Cut Pieces

First Block

In my opinion, the best complement to Snails ...

The Bowtie Quilt from Quiltnotes All Blogs

This week I started working on 2" finished bowtie blocks. I bought the new 4" Qube Mix and Match plus the companion sets. If you don't have an AccuQuilt cutter yet, I have included instructions below to make a 4" finished bowtie block the traditional way.

These pieces were cut using the 4" Companion Set - Corners. The background is cut with die #11.1 and the small triangle is cut with die #12.1.

Sew the triangle to the bowtie background.

The bowtie accent fabric is cut from die #6. This die cuts 4 squares. When you put 6 ...

AccuquiltGo Sawtooth Star: Get Mileage Out of the Dies You Own from Mulberry Patch Quilts

You’ll see in my recent posts that I’m obsessed with learning how much mileage I can get with my Accuquilt GO!Cutter and the dies I already own.

I love the simplicity of the Sawtooth Star block and so I decided to see if I could design some pieced items with it using the dies I have.

Although I don’t own the 8” Go!Cube, I have almost all the shapes (see those in bold print on the list below). The only one shape I was missing was for the “flying geese” part of the star: the ...

Tuesday Tips: AccuquiltGo Chisel Die & Braid Strip from Mulberry Patch Quilts

Since I last talked about my new obsession with my AccuquiltGo cutter (see last post) I’ve been busy trying out the dies I already own to make as many different blocks as I can. It’s fun to take apart a block and find the die shapes to make them. While playing, I discovered a new use for my Chisel Die.

Well, I didn’t really discover it—lots of other quilters discovered this… But I discovered their discovery (thank you Pinterest). So of course I couldn’t wait to give it a try!

Did you know you can ...

AccuquiltGo! Thoughts & Bear’s Paw Block from Mulberry Patch Quilts

I purchased an Accuquilt Go die cutter awhile ago and have made so many great projects with it, including tumbler block baby quilts and Dresden Plate table toppers. But I wanted to use a combination of dies to create some other basic, well-known quilting blocks.

My original purchase of my AccuquiltGo! included a combination die (above). It has on it a 2” finished square, a couple 2” finished half square triangles (HST), and a 4” finished square.

Hey, that’s all I need to make the basic Bear’s Claw block! Perfect.

I haven’t yet purchased any of the ...

Like Sex but Better from Sew Preeti Quilts

Picture this - a warm, sunny day on a beach. Blue skies with just a tiny cloud or two, and the aquamarine waters are neither warm nor cold. And there I am in a hammock made up of your sweet comments, gently cradling me. That is how I feel; thank you for your hugs. I love you and I feel loved!!!

Greens on the Color Wheel

According to Angela, March is Green.  She did not specify light or dark, bright or dingy. So here they are.
All the greens in five blocks total.

Me: I believe that patchwork/quilting is like ...

Pumping Up The Volume from From the Strawberry Patch...

After getting the Star Flower quilt all quilted and the binding attached, I needed a bit more color saturation to brighten the day. I dug deep into my bin of 4.5" square scraps and after a quick pass through the die cutter I set to work on this scrappy hexagon quilt. It's vibrant and fun. I have half of it pieced as it's shown here on the design wall. It will measure 56" X 72" at completion,
