Week 17 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week I finished spinning another skein of sock yarn (that will be my theme for the year).
The fibre was dyed neon pink and gold
I dyed some more fibre for socks. I was inspired by an article in the Summer 2018 issue of Spin Off magazine - Brewing Up a Batch of Custom Dyed Fiber by Anne Merrow. Basically to have small dots of colour in the white fibre.
For spinning I divided the fibre in to very thin pieces, to have short sections of colour. I am looking forward to seeing how this knits up.
Temperatures all over ...

Floppy Petals 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Yesterday’s designs were fiddly … these are too, but they would be pretty on the bed.

The first design was a fee range garden, the second design a much more formal garden.

Quilting Friends Retreat from Dreamworthy Quilts

I just returned from the Quilting Friends Retreat this week. I have honestly been sewing with most of these ladies for over 20 years. I have known them from work, quilt classes I have taught, guild, and Church. We are all so close, and love runs deep between us.  Many of them watched me grow up from a young mother to a soon-to-retire woman. Yes, I took days off work to attend. I don't miss this retreat EVER.

I made this Mystery Quilt entirely from my stash.

Here are some others that were made from the same pattern.

Sew & Tell ~ April 29, 2024 ~ Lovely Teal Memory from Melva Loves Scraps

April is nearly over... time marches on.  And sometimes at the beat of its own drum. LOL!

Last week went along smoothly as I spent time in my studio working on the first of three custom t-shirt quilts.  By Friday afternoon I had it finished, sans the label.

I sat down to the computer to do a quick post about it... that was when I was waylaid by the fact that our business website was AWOL... again.

After seeking help from tech support, to no avail, I began the process of creating a new one, using the free program from ...

Stuck from Quilting and More...

That’s me — I’m stuck. I have several projects in the planning stages, and I can’t work on any of them. That’s because my beautiful new (since September, 2023) Bernina 790Pro died just over a week ago. It was refusing to stitch, so I took it in for the tech to look at. That was […]

Tumblers from Adventurous Quilter

Slow and steady progress on my latest EPP project:

I'm loving this project and when I run out of precut scraps I'll probably dig into my stash and keep sewing because it's so adorable.

Island Batik and Funky Friends Factory Challenge featuring Aristotle Axolotl from Curlicue Creations

Hello there!  Meet Aristotle Axolotl, my Island Batik Ambassador challenge for the month of April.  This little guy was fun to make!

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Partners.
This month the Island Batik Ambassadors were lucky enough to choose a pattern from Funky Friends Factory to create a stuffed animal of our choice.

I've made a few Funky Friends Factory patterns before.  I've made Lloyd the Llama, a Fox, and a Kawaii Cutie Cat.  They were all fun to sew.  The patterns are detailed and easy ...

Moth in the Window Blocks are Complete! from The Modern Diary

I have eighty-one Moth in the Window blocks made this time around.  I laid them out and then took pictures, stared, changed things around, and repeat several times.  The final layout-ish is this first picture.  Not perfect, but I am happy with it.

Last night we had a game night at Hannah and Jeremy's house.  We played Cascadia!  Kathy suprised me with it yesterday so I watched some videos and played it solo twice so I could teach it.  It is easy to teach and learn and we all liked it.  I won!

Update on the grandkids:  Lily is ...

Shepherdsville, KY, the Monarch Challenge, and Museum Minis from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've moved on down the road this morning. We're in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, which is just about 20 miles from Bardstown, Kentucky. This is where Mike gets to check a few things off his bucket list, starting with the bourbon distilleries. So, I'll tell you about our plans for the area in a bit, but let's go back to where yesterday started.

We were in no hurry to leave the previous spot, and that gave me plenty of time to work on my slow-stitching yesterday morning. I filled my hoop.

From there, I ...

HAPPY SCRAPPERS MEET AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP from ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Hello Quilters!  The Happy Scrappers met this past Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. It has really been a week for me.  Did you ever  have a day when things just went wrong?  Well, this morning when trying to get the picture I took yesterday at the Shop off my camera, I discovered that apparently my camera hadn't worked, and I had no pictures!  The one I wanted was of Marti, who was sewing the binding on her lovely quilt.  I'm so sorry I didn't get to show you how darling it is.

And I must ...

Sew'n Wild Oaks Retreat from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

It's been a whirlwind of activity over the last few days and I'm just now getting around to posting pictures from my Sew'n Wild Oaks Retreat at Snowflake Lodge.  The first picture is a beautiful Winterset made by my sister, Gail.  She enlarged the pattern by adding extra blocks and pinwheels.  She is also going to add another border.  She worked hard on it at the retreat to get it to this point.

There is always a lot of discussion around the design walls, and the design walls are always decorated with beautiful quilt blocks ...

Quilting Updates, Rucking, Thursday This and That from Canadian Needle Nana

A frozen mystery meat is thawing on the counter. It must be meat as it's really heavy. Time will reveal what it is and what I can make for supper with it. Any frozen mystery gems at your house?

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week is bed and breakfast or luxury hotel? I don't have a preference but I don't think I've ever stayed in a luxury hotel. I'll stay anywhere that looks nice and safe. I spent two March holidays in a condo on a Florida beach and found that ...

Finished or Not Friday 4/26/2024 from Mel's quilting blog

         "Finished or not Fridays"

Well, it has not been a great finishing week.
I think I was overloaded last week, and we had many appointments this week.

DONE 1. My other project is from my guild, which needs to be finished for the Emporium during our quilt show.

2. I must also cut a peach and green quilt for more variety.
I am delaying on this one and have no idea why.
I did make 4 more blocks, but I don't have a photo.

3. Piece Off Kilter
It is in process but still needs to be put together ...

Oh Scrap! : Strings from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I had high hopes that I would be able to play with my scraps this week but it just didn't happen.  I was busy getting labels sewn onto all the finished quilts in stock - which was about 40 quilts.  And when the weather was nice, I ended up planting some of my garden.

I did want to share these awesome scrap blocks I received from Marci.  Aren't they fantastic?! She sent 10.5" and 6.5" square blocks.

I think they are going to look awesome all sewn together. Marci says she might try and send a few ...

Quilt palette inspiration! from Adventurous Quilter

Each weekend I release an inspirational quilt palette which I have derived by performing a colour study on a photo I've taken. Usually the photo features something from the natural environment such as this week's banksia flower.

This is one of my favourite palettes since beginning this habit mid last year.
Would you sew with this palette?

Writing quilt patterns from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

There is one area of my life that won't get cluttered with digital stuff, and that's Zoom. I think I have 5 GB of "free" storage, enough to store a month's worth of video recordings—about 12 hours or something like that. I get emails from Zoom if the account is getting close to full. Do I want to buy storage? No, and then I go in and delete the older videos! Yeah, me! One area that will never become cluttered! They will shut down the ability to record if you go over! Or so they say ...
