For a label theme fabric postcard swap
I’ve made really good progress on the Christmas stocking for our grand daughter this past week. The ginger bread house is almost completely done. All that is left is a few decorations to go on the snow at the top of the chimney. I’m confident that the rest can be completed later this year, before Christmas comes. This is the only slow stitching I did this week. So I’ll link to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching.
I spent part of the day making and editing videos! I'm not good at it - well, I'm OK with it, I'm just slow because I'm still learning, and I don't do it often! What the heck would we do without Google?
For those who were unable to attend Quilt Canada 2025 and would like to view my concurrent show, "Celebrating 25 Years of Teaching Quilt Making," here's the link. I still want to make one more video of all the multi-part classes I've taught, and it seems I missed one! So I'll ...
read moreIt is National Fried Chicken Day, and I want to reprise some stories I’ve told before as I pay homage to my favorite food. I am completely addicted to fried chicken, as my fellow guild members can attest to (when I am not eating sushi). The combination of delicate crunchy breading and tender juicy chicken is happiness on a plate. Fried chicken was the comfort food of choice for my childhood years, and the very best was made in my grandmother’s kitchen in her cast iron skillet.

My grandmother lived on a very small farm, about two acres ...

Not enough fabric out last week to count.
I fell off the no buy wagon yesterday. It was a good run while it lasted. I was thrifting with a friend and this piece of silk was $2. Leaving it on the shelf was not an option.

I also made a small piece to test a round mattress finish for embroidery. I couldn’t find a tutorial online and ...
read moreI had a handyman here for a couple of days to fix my leaky roof. He also took it upon himself to fix the gate, mend the door on the outside gas meter and install a water butt, all fixings cobbled together from bits that came off the extinct satellite dish!
I thought I had better do some jobs while he was here on my day off so I cut up some OSB board scraps to make soffits for the shed using my very basic hand saw. I told Freya about my DIY plans when she phoned and she told ...

We had a wonderful 4th of July holiday with my family. Grad Girl made it home. She'll be here all this week, then she heads back home to pack and move. I did pretty well at fitting in some stitching time most days.
- 15 minute days/week = 6/7 days
- 15 minute days/June = 27/30 days
- 15 minute days/2025 = 175/186 days

There is a new line of Marcia Derse fabric, just released. I had to have a few new ones to mix in with my older lines. The line is called Sketchbook 21. Chris at Dye Candy Fabrics was the first to send an email that it was available so I ordered from her.
This is my favorite print in the new line.
And here is my second favorite.
I always love circle fabrics mixed into a project.
These 3 have possibilities so I didn't want to leave them behind. I didn't get any of 3 of the new ... read more
This was made by a self-taught newbie quilter who used YouTube to learn. She was very apologetic about her first attempt and here I thought she did very well without formal classes.
Very befitting, when I showed her a selection of edge-to-edge designs, she opted for the meander. All of us used this on our first quilts.

I finished my Brenna Dresdon blocks and want to get the background cut today. They will be appliqued.
Shopping my stash, I am deciding between white on white, Grey low volume, or a variety of low volumes. They all really change the look.
I also have Fishy Business on the design wall while I make a few more blocks. My wall actually has a mix of four project WIPS:
- Sydney Harbor Bridge with a paper sketch of the Opera House
- Cluck, Cluck, Bawk!
- My friend's row for our row swap project. She is calling her row quilt Farm Life ...
Finally got my act together and cut the right pieces and got busy sewing the star and part of the block yesterday. Now to make the outer ring and applique the larger piece to it and then applique to the background square. Also sat outside for awhile and worked on the long stretch of stitching […]

I played my games. I wanted to just do nothing. Then when I thought about watching TV, Patrick took a nap on the couch. So, for about 3 hours while he slept, I played my games. Then I pulled out my ...

Who needs a dozen, or two, different colours to make an applique quilt!

One hint if you choose red as one of the colours … make sure you only bleed on the red fabric!
However, make sure you wash the red fabrics very well before cutting to stop the fabric bleeding.
