Week 1 – Let Freedom Ring Progress from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Here’s my plan for getting this monster stitched and framed before July 4, 2026. It’s Let Freedom Ring by Lila’s Studio. On 40 count linen, it should be 15-1/2″ x 12″. There are 35,818 stitches. If I stitch 750 stitches each week for 48 weeks, that will give me four weeks to get a frame...

Sneak Peek: Fireworks (Another Susan Second Chance Quilt) from Wedding Dress Blue

This is another quilt that came from Susan Nixon prior to her death. I am trying to tie up loose ends and honor her.

The top is assembled. I had to create a few blocks to get a complete top. Should have the finish to share in a few weeks.

RSC25 - Week #26 from My Sewing Room

Halfway through the year already!!!  That means we're on color #7 already, and I dug right into the purples with glee this week.  Once I pulled out the purple scrap bin, a lot of cutting happened all at once.  I may have gotten carried away with purple and July is just beginning.

The first purple blocks were the Buckeye Beauty.  I'm hoping to have enough of these blocks now to start assembling the quilt top.  I haven't counted them yet but I'm getting close I think.  I've been sewing these individual blocks into 4-sies.  By ...

Wardrobe Malfunction from Romany Quilting

I heard a funny noise the other morning, but didn't think too much about it, perhaps it was the traffic on the road out the back.  But later in the morning when I went to hang some freshly ironed clothes  away, I saw what it was.  The wardrobe shelf and clothes rail had parted company with the wall, and was hanging by a screw!  Oh dear, what to do now?

Ooops, it gave way

I had an electrician around the following day, Callum, a nice young man just starting out in business on his own,  to replace the light ...

Quilted Runner – Prairie Home Quilt Book from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

I’m popping in today to share my latest finish—and I’m extra excited about this one. It’s the Prairie Pastures Runner from The Prairie Home Quilt Book by Lori Holt by the ever-so-lovely Lori Holt (published by It’s Sew Emma). If you haven’t flipped through this book yet, let me just say—it’s like stepping into a [...]

Still hot.................. from Exuberant Color

It's been too hot for me to think about a new project so I'll just continue sewing these squares for Broken Dishes blocks.

With all that I sewed yesterday and Thursday, I have plenty to start sewing into blocks.  I pressed all of them so I would be ready for assembly last night and today.  I sewed 32 blocks last night and added them to the 39 already sewn.  They are 6" blocks.

I watered the tomato plants and then went to the front garden and watered the bushes.  This is the Zinfin Doll Hydrangea finally starting to ...

Quilt Therapy from Podunk Pretties

Why did I need quilt therapy on the 4th of July?  Long story short...my neighbor asked me to feed her dogs while she was out of town this weekend.  While playing outside with them in the afternoon one of them took off on an adventure.  Two hours later and a lot of driving I found the dog.  I managed to keep my wits about me while looking for him, but horrible things ran through my head.  Upon returning home I broke down and let the bottled-up emotions out in tears.  After calming down I knew I needed some sewing ...

A fresh cabbage from Bizarre Quilter

I was inspired by this home grown cabbage and the photo of it, grown and photographed by my friend Melissa Roy-Hillier.

page 21 of 40 in my personal visual diary challenge

I love the different shades of green, and the way the veins appear in different lights.

Green is my favourite colour, I love the beads of water on here, the slight purple with the greens. What a great colour palette for any drawing.

There's something about cabbages. I'm very inspired by them.

Drawing from a friend's holiday from Bizarre Quilter

A3 black paper

Thank you to my friend Georgie Parish for letting me draw her photo. The composition is amazing, look at the focus and the use of thirds!

I loved translating this into artwork. The lines in the building aren't completely straight, and perspective may be off a little, but overall, I love the depth I've achieved, and the bright colours elevating the iamge.

I prefer the full version to the cropped version.

Such a great photo though! Thank you Georgie!

Second floral coral print from Stitching Matters

This one not only used the same pattern and fabric, but was also done by the same quilter.  She was gifted fabric and decided to use it all.

The only change here from the previous one was the quilting motif.

Cat People from Jo's Country Junction

I am not a cat person. I am a dog person. While I was working at the vet, I could easily see that there is difference. I also know there are people who are neither and prefer a house with no pets. After growing up with a house dog, my daughter Kalissa thought she was …

Quilting Day At Mom's - HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was ready to go after getting a few things done.

I thought about getting tea but decided not to. So, I arrived before everyone else at moms. We talked about all the squares and blocks she's getting ready for the group to work on. There must be enough blocks there to make about 6 quilts if not more. She's working on the red ones, which I need for the quilt downstairs. I'm going to take them to the meeting and see if we could work on putting the top together, ready to sew on ...

Week 25 of 2025 from Thread Head

A couple works in progress this week -

I am working on the third part of the Feldmark by Martina Behm, knit with some handspun yarn.
These are my regular toe-up socks, but I added a simple stitch pattern - Andalusian Stitch. It is a 4 row stitch pattern with 3 rows of plain knit and 1 row of knit 1, purl 1. It makes the knitting more interesting without being too complicated, and I think it works great with the stripes of the handspun.

Week and a half old chicks have just started getting little tail feathers.

All the best!♥︎

Red and White Patches 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

The first design today has two 9 Patch block designs using two different fabrics, and it looks good.

The second design has 4 different 9 patch blocks and 3 fabrics, and it also looks good! One of the block designs is only used once.

The only down side I can think of is that I couldn’t justify spending an hour in a quilt shop to select the fabrics!

Saturday Sparks Link Party 675 from Pieced Pastimes

Welcome to Saturday Sparks 675!

Starting off today's party with this oh-so sweet porcupette!

This little guy waddled his way into my heart the other day.

With camera in hand, I ventured out for an impromptu photo shoot.

He was enjoying some white clover as I inched my way toward him.

They have poor vision so I was able to get pretty close before he noticed me.

Once spotted, he defiantly stood with raised quills as I grabbed this shot.

Sorry to bother you, little one.

"I don't have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness - it's ...

Planning to make a kaleidoscope Quilt in Red, White and Blue

Here is my plan and can't wait to get started.

I found this free coloring chart on a blog called Confessions of a Fabric Addict, where she was hosting a QAL back in 2019.  You can click the link to get it if you want to make one too.  She has some other ways to color in for different looking quilts.

You would use a kalidescope ruler.  I actually have the Alaska ruler as well as this one so am ready to start cutting.  I love that this ...

Rummage Sale Find from Jo's Country Junction

Last week I went to a rummage sale. I had no intention of going. I was only trying to kill time. I thought I had a doctor appointment on Thursday with my local doctor for my annual checkup. I got there at 7:45 and oops. My appointment was for JULY 24th not JUNE 24th. UGH. …

#alaac25 in Philadelphia (quilts included) from With Strings Attached

I've been to five ALA Midwinter Meetings (January/February) in Philadelphia, most recently in January, 2020. This was the first Annual there since 1982.

My first ALA Annual Conference was in 1984. Since the I've missed two (1991 and 2016). 2020 was cancelled and 2021 was virtual. By my reckoning that means this year was #37.  I go to the conference to learn about issues and new books, hear interesting speakers, sightsee, and see friends.  My main involvement nowadays is the Retired Members Round Table.

Issues:   ongoing threats to access information (from kids to researchers),

federal budget cuts ...
