Sorting and pitching! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Wow!!!! What a day! We spotted one coyote and one moose on the way to the farm. There were never moose in this area, but their habitat is changing, so I guess they are in the area now. We also have bears -the big kind, but I haven't seen any here, although I had a dream about them last night. Little Bear, meeting a real bear!

However, the most "exciting" critters I met were SIX ticks. I found one on my forehead while taking a break, one in the truck on the way home, and another on my head ...

RSC Week 19 - more PINK from Grandma's Red Needle

 It's PINK - again!
Pink is May's chosen color for the RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge

I ran out of background fabric for the BOM from Sherri McConnel; 'A Quilting Life'
For the previous blocks I have used Moda Marbles 'cream' (not available anymore).
Instead, I purchased 'Baby White', which is slightly more yellowish, but that's OK. It's scrappy, after all!

When I joined RSC last year (2023), I sorted most of my fabrics on color.
After I made Arreli's quilt, I don't have much pink left. I had to dig deep into my ...

RSC24 week #19 from My Sewing Room

Oh my goodness, this year is just flying by!  Today is the big day for our granddaughter's school musical, and I'll finally see that crazy dog costume I made for her in action.  We'll miss 2 graduations and graduation parties this evening too, because we'll be at the musical.  It's that busy time of year.

On the sewing front this week, a bit more pink came out.  Two of the Dutchman's Puzzle blocks were first.  I'm using batiks for the colors, and scrappy white for the backgrounds of these, with some shade of ...

An everything else day.................. from Exuberant Color

I took a daylight photo of the pink/blue layout and this is closer to what my design wall looks like but just a little bit light.  Yesterday's photos were too high of contrast which made the lights too light and the darks too dark.

This one was taken last night with lights on.  I get better color and contrast when I'm taking a photo from the side instead of straight on.  I turned one piece and the layout looks better (5th row in from the left, 4th piece down).

Yesterday was a day crowded with too many ...

Too Busy from Quilts....etc.

Yesterday was just too busy.  I started laundry and then went to get my hair cut, then ran to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things and still forgot to look for ferns once again.  I might not get any at this rate! Outside work – picked berries once again in the afternoon after I […]

Adding Stripes for a Wow Factor in Your Next Quilt from On Point Quilter

Sometimes that beautiful striped fabric in our collection can be a bit intimidating to work with.

If you have ever struggled with making that initial cut into striped fabric, this tutorial is for you.

Kaleidoscopes with Striped Fabric

Tech Know Quilter members have been working with striped fabric and posting their blocks in our private Facebook group..

In the EasyDraw Kaleidoscope class they created a striped fabric Kaleidoscope block.

While many of the blocks are the same -- the fabrics result in a very different look for each of the blocks.

Enjoy some of their awesome designs.

Yellow and Pink RSC from Romany Quilting

I've realised it for a while - going away on caravan trips definately cuts into sewing time.  Now we are home again from a family trip, I'm in catch up mode, stitching away on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge block sets.

Pink is the colour for May, and I've stitched up some Hollow Nines.  Then as I hadn't stitched any for April, I made a couple of yellow blocks too.

Hollow Nines, done

In making these nine patch blocks, I'm committed to only use squares already cut and tucked away in a little bag.  The blocks will ...

Spending The Day At Moms & Quilting! from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up early. I needed to work on the QOV information on each veteran that we need to honor. I wanted to do what I could for Carol.

Then it was time to head out to moms. I stopped and got some Chai tea while I was on the way. Thought about washing the car at the car wash, but decided I would do it on the way back.

There were 7 of us. It was pretty good. I worked on the blue and white block of the month that mom has. I pulled out moms' patterns ...

The Price You Pay For Leaving! from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I should have taken a picture of our yard when we got home. It rained and stormed and rained and stormed . . several times while we were gone. We were lucky we didn’t have any damages. They had to cancel this month’s Food Truck Friday in Carthage because the park has so much damage....

Floral Wedding 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

I enjoy playing with traditional designs to create something different. I also prefer applique to piecing, so turning a design where the rings were usually pieced together to an applique design was a natural for me.

Even better with an area where quilting can be shown off.

What I’m Reading: Saving Emma from Jo's Country Junction

I am a HUGE Allen Eskens fan. He is a Minnesota writer and often writes about the Twin Cities and Southern Minnesota. I love reading works for authors who are from the same places I grew up in and am familiar with. The books grab my attention so much more because I can picture it …

Tissue Holder Pattern with Cute Trim Edge from Patchwork Posse

I’ve got a fun little project to share with you: the travel tissue cover.

It’s super easy and a great way to use up those fabric scraps or fat quarters you’ve been hoarding. Picture this: two fabrics—one for the main part, the other for a cute trim along the edge.

You can go for a coordinated look or mix it up for some funky vibes.

These little covers are perfect for tossing in your bag, keeping in your car, or gifting to friends. And the best part? They’re quick to make, even if you’re ...

My creative week.... a little house for my pins and some paintings from Not Afraid of Color

This week I was distracted by physical pain, but I managed to compete this wee pin cushion!

There are videos of people teaching versions but none gave me a pattern... I found one on line

SunCatcherStudio.com

at first I cut it out large since it was drawn to scale. Too big for a pin cushion but great for a box... so then I cut it out as shown.

I used pink felt scraps since the color of the month at rainbow scrap challenge is pink! yea! It looks wonky in these photos but it's a precious little sturdy ...

Wordy Wednesday from Melva Loves Scraps

The production level coming out of my studio has been off the charts lately!  Despite interruptions like my husband's business website crashing and needing to be re-created, making sales on-line as Mom continues to downsize and prepare for a move.

This green memory quilt, #2/3, is my latest finish...

It's all been amazing and great!  But quite honestly, I am longing to escape, unplug and go camping.  If it doesn't happen soon I think I will just pretend. You know... turn off the wi-fi, pull out all the hand-sewing projects and books... and take a deep ...

BOUND and Determined! from From the Strawberry Patch...

It was a stretch (literally!) to go from the smaller, close to the body movements that I mentioned in my last post, to those with a greater range of motion; but, as my PT sessions continued, I was able to graduate to the longarm again and get a few tops quilted up and ready for finishing. First off the rails was the "Potato Chip" quilt, a fun and fast-to-make scrappy (all 2.5" X 4.5" rectangles)

Catch of the Day Lobster Tote from Sew Karen-ly Created...

Drum roll please!  I am happy to announce the release of the 4th pattern in the Tidewater Totes series.  There's nothing that says "east coast" more than lobsters.

I sewed the red, white and blue bag first and then saw this picture online, which suggested a totally different palette for my crustacean.

I had the perfect mottled orange-red batik in my stash.
All the stitching on the bags is done completely by machine.
The colours are off in this shot, it's actually prettier in person, but you can't order up sunny days at will.  (Or at least ...
