stash report 2/5/2023 from Making A Lather

I don't have new fabric this week. I have been cutting scraps. I cut 1 1/2 inch strips at the last, if I can't cut anything larger. There was 1 pound 2 ounces of scraps in this size. If there are 3 yards in a pound, I have a little over 1 yard.

1 1/2 inch strips

When I have chunks, I cut them into 5 inch, 3 1/2 inch, 2 1/2 in, 2 inch, and 1 1/2 inch squares. I also will cut rectangles into 2 x 3 1/2 inch and ...

I found some batiks to add to my stash. I was surprised how much aqua/ turquoise I have added to my stash the last few years. I have an impressive stack of them. Last year, my goal was to mindfully add yellow and purple. I did a great job, I think. This year, I don't have a focus for purchases, except not to make any - LOL. I have plenty of everything. plenty.....

Crimson Tweed Update from Alamosa Quilter

I am slowly making progress getting this one quilted.

Crimson Tweed quilt close up showing quilting

I started with the snowflake block. After that I moved to the right and did the block above the tree. Then the tree block. Now I am working on the triangles block right below the tree. I got to sit and work on this for two days last week and made good progress those two days. I still have a long way to go but I am happy with how it is turning out so far.

I am afraid that too many pieces of fabric have found their way into my stash, lately. With all the holiday shopping, they are hiding, until, I can properly sort through it.

I did get a picture of a jelly roll and some mystery fat quarters. The fat quarters will be great for finishing my crown blocks. The jelly roll are solids called sunroom. They are pretty colors that are different than usual solid colors.

My quilt guild's Christmas party was last week. We played a pass a yard of fabric game and the aqua floral was what I took home. The fat quarter was the prize I won. We had a pitch in for food and it was so yummy. There are just some favorites that I only get at a potluck.

Someone, at guild open sew, gifted these squares to me. They filled a plastic shoe box. I had found another scrap bag of squares earlier- here- and had decided what I was going to do with them. I need to do that again. They are not all the same size and will need trimming. The squares are about 3 inches. Any ideas?

"Gnome-shave" November (or How to Attach a Beard) from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Instead of "No-shave November," over here it is "Gnome-shave November," as our gentleman gnome has a fun and curly beard! We have used curly wool to give some great texture to our gnome's beard, and the curly wool is available as part of the embellishments in our wool kit. While it might look complicated, we have broken the process down for you in a series of pictures.

Use just a small amount of curly wool—it doesn't take much.

Roll it around in your hands until you have a small, slightly compacted ball of wool.

Pull apart the ...

FOLAGE, FLORALS, AND THEN SOME from Q-BITS

The days are getting shorter and cooler.  It's time to do a wool applique project.  I always enjoy a break from the usual cotton patchwork with the opportunity to work with wool.  I'm from a sheep ranching family that homesteaded in Colorado in 1876 four generations ago, so wool is just embeded in my DNA.

I don't claim to be a good or trained designer, and try to keep things simple within my basic skill set and ability.  Design as you go is my mantra, so no pattern is available. I've discovered that I'm much ...

Crimson Tweed Update from Alamosa Quilter

Last weekend I had a small SIYOB Retreat at my shop. SIYOB stands for Sleep In Your Own Bed. I got to work on my Crimson Tweed the whole time, except when I was helping customers.

My Crimson Tweed quilt with quilting in progress

I started quilting the center snowflake block. When the retreat started I had less than a 1/4 of that block quilted. Now I have about 1/4 left to go. See below for a detail shot of this section.
