wrangle progress from Making A Lather

I have made progress on my rectangle wrangle quilt. I try to make 2 blocks every day. There are 84 blocks, so slow and steady wins the race. I tried to take it with me for a portable project, but, made too many mistakes. It has to stay home. poor baby

With some of the leftover tiny pieces I sewed a little extra to my denim dress.

blue 4 patches from Making A Lather

I don't need any more blue for my rainbow scrap challenge projects. So, I decided a little tidying was in order. I separated my dark and light blue chunks in the scrap drawer. I added some pieces to the 'cut or get rid' box. And, then, I found a little more room. hooray

I grabbed my blue 2 inch strips, and thought, I would sort through them for dark and light. I also, grabbed smaller pieces of strips for 4 patches and an older ufo called strip tease. I needed to find 2 matching strips in the light, and ...

wonky wishes finish from Making A Lather

When Bonnie Hunter was doing quiltcams, she introduced this quilt, as she was working on it. I really liked it, and, started making a few blocks along with her in 2012. It languished in the ufo closet for awhile and then I managed to complete the top in 2017. Then it languished in the "to be quilted" closet until It had a turn as one of my 5 quilts project. I had an empty longarm for a moment, and, now, I have a wonky wishes finish.

It was fun to revisit it, and, all the scrappy fabrics, I used to ...

wrangle progress from Making A Lather

I have been working on rectangle wrangle. I try to make 2 blocks every day. I cut over 400 shirt strips in 2018. After, I sew the strip sets, and, make the tube, I can play with each block. I love shirt fabric, the feel, the colors, the plaids. And, I know the best part will be seeing a whole quilt come together. I think they are always striking. And, any combo of colors will work. I've had this quilt on my list for a long time. Slow and steady, I will work each day. The blocks are divided ...

clarissa quilt progress from Making A Lather

I rediscovered this project while cleaning up messes. I had a stack of related fabric scraps that I really liked, and, I started a year or so ago to make an old hourglass block quilt. I thought before I put it away in the ufo closet, I would just cut to make sure I would have enough and make 36 centers. sounded easy. the centers only have 4 hourglass blocks.

I cut most of what I had, and, then, took count to see if I would need to add more fabrics. I definitely need more. It was not as easy ...

june one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I have had Saturday soire BOM on my 5 quilts list for most of the year. The blocks were done, previously, and ALL I had to do was finish the top and assemble it to finish it. It has been a bigger project than I anticipated. I found 3 setting kits as part of the block of the month. My one monthly goal for June is to finish it, quilted and bound.

I have  kit 1 finished, and I have the 2nd kit in progress. I think I can start the assembly,

row 1

June is garden season, not ...

Impromptu quilt from Espritpatch

My Impromptu quilt is finally quilted! It has taken me so long to pack it up and send it to Kim at l'Atelier du Long Arm, not sure why! Anyway, I sent it very late March and Kim managed to quilt it in April, despite originally thinking she won't get to it until the summer. And I received it back earlier this month. This quilt is huge (90'' square) that's why I wanted to have it quilted professionally.

Kim used a beautiful flowery feather motif on my top. The quilt has a lot of negative space so ...

Saturday soire block of the month progress from Making A Lather

I have been working on one of my 5 quilt projects, lately.

5. Saturday soire block of the month. This an older UFO from 2013. I opened the box, and, all of the blocks are pieced. I have the 3 setting kits to start. I am cutting for kit 1. I remember being in love with this quilt. I don't have a picture in the box, so, now, it will be a mystery. I bought the red kit as a block of the month. There was a blue option, and when the lqs closed, I bought the blue version ...

wrangling more blocks from Making A Lather

I'm still wrangling these blocks for my 5 quilts project. I try to make at least 2 blocks every morning. I need 42 'uphill' blocks. Each one is different, and a fun surprise. I left the tags on some of shirts. I don't know if I will like it or not.

oops I see one that is not right .. sigh

I have a working cart next to my machine that holds all the cut pieces and 'in process' pieces for making the blocks.

wonky courthouse steps finish from Making A Lather

My Friday finish is an older UFO from the strings bin. Wonky courthouse steps was inspired by a Bonnie Hunter pattern. This is the second one I have made. Once, I pull out the strip bin, it is hard to stop. I made a third one as well. All of them I have sewn on my singer treadle.

61 x 67

I used a sheet for the back and quilted free form swirls. I used scrappy pieces for the binding.

I finished the first one in 2021 here. No two look alike when using the string bin.

wonderland holiday runner finish from Making A Lather

My finish for Friday is wonderland holiday table runner. As an older UFO, I am so glad it is finally done. I was in love with the fabric line when I signed up for the class at my LQS. I remember, the instructor had us cut pieces, and, put them on paper plates to keep them labeled. If, I can ever get the dining room table ( aka dumping ground) cleaned off, it will look perfect.

92 inches long

new project from Making A Lather

My 5 quilts project needs a lot of cutting. I needed a portable machine piecing project for sewing away from home, that doesn't require a lot of thinking. I opened a new box, and everything is already cut. I have over 400 strips cut and ready to make a Bonnie Hunter rectangle wrangle quilt from her scraps and shirt tails book 2.  Rectangle wrangle is an older 2018 UFO, that, I know I want to finish. It looked simple enough.

I need to make a million strip sets - easy

I need to  sew them into a tube and sub ...

quilt border debate from Making A Lather

When I finished hand me down top, to be honest, I just wanted to be done. I had worked at it with intent, and, I was losing motivation. I really thought I would skip the cool border that was in the pattern and just add a plain border. I let it steep for a few days, and, I realized part of why I started the quilt, was the border. But, 5 rows? really?

I decided to go for it. I have enough fabric, and, I tend to make bed size quilts, and, I started the quilt with the border as ...

hand me down top from Making A Lather

I have been working on the blocks for hand me down in an effort to make rows and join rows. There was minimal matching with the every other block layout.

so fun

I finished the rows at an open sew at the library. Ooo I like it. I am not sure about borders. It is a bout 74 x 74 as it is. I think I will let it rest a bit, and see I want to finish it.

Hand me down is a Bonnie Hunter pattern found in her first book.

wool runner finish from Making A Lather

My Friday finish is a wool runner from 2013. I decided not to quilt it. I finished the floss work and attached the backing. I gave it a good press with a wet towel, and, it is lovely, even if, the grass is not. The wool in the kit was hand dyed in beautiful vibrant colors.

13 x 48 inches

hand me down progress from Making A Lather

Sew excited to see progress on my Hand me down quilt Ufo. All the blocks are made, and, I am sewing each star block to its partner. I liked the star blocks individually, but, they look so nice, as every other block. My goal for the month is to have a finished quilt.

I discovered I was 2 hourglass blocks short for the quilt. I just used a few extra flying geese for the center. Now, it will be a "made you look" quilt LOL

wonderland holiday runner from Making A Lather

One, of my "to be quilted" Ufo projects, is an old Ufo from a class that I took in 2013. I have finally quilted it. It is long runner in beautiful Christmas  fabrics. It needs to have prairie points added before I can actually bind it. We had a Local quilt shop, at the time, and, it was just down the road from my home. It was small, but, a great place to hang out. And, ahem, I did my very best to keep them in business. It closed in 2014. I took as many classes as I could. The ...

scrappy pinwheels finished from Making A Lather

My Friday finish this week is scrappy pinwheels. I really enjoyed making this pattern and quilt. I started it in 2018 in an effort to use 2 1/2 inch scraps. It would be great for a jelly roll. One jelly roll would make it bigger than this one. I liked it so much, I recently cut another one in upcycled shirt fabrics.

60 x 68 = 14 yards

I quilted an overall paisley and used the backing for binding

wool lady table runner from Making A Lather

The next Ufo on my 5 quilt list to do, is a table runner. I bought the kit at a quilt show in Ohio a hundred years ago.

I bought the kit from wooly lady in 2013. Most of the applique was done when I opened the box. There is still a little floss work to be done. The colors are gorgeous, the pattern was really nice. I spent a small fortune on the kit, I don't know why I didn't finish it.

I decided I will just pillow case the gorgeous backing to the front, and call ...

April one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I opened an older ufo called hand me down  last month and have been making flying geese and star blocks. I am nearly done with the blocks. Each block is so different and fun to see, when I finish it. All of them are made from recycled shirt fabrics. I want to make finishing this as my one monthly goal for April. I cut this quilt in 2018, and made the hourglass blocks, before, adding it to the ufo closet.

April tends to get away from me, so I will need to stick to it. We have ...
