I have been working on placemats for almost ten months now! I did enjoy making them but I have to admit, I am glad this project is finished and I can clean up my sewing room. Working continually with these tiny scraps has wreaked havoc around my hose....They were everywhere!
I received a call from my contact at Meals on Wheels to start coordinating the delivery of my donated placemats. She would like me to deliver them to their office before the end of October.
This is a few weeks earlier than I was planning so my goal of 200 is probably not going to happen.
I thought I would get a status check on where I am currently at and what is hiding out in the pipeline.
Followed by a few in purple ...

I know I showed you a few placemats earlier this month, but I have a few more that I finished this month.
I have been focused on some home improvements over the last couple of months. That has really been invading my sewing time. But hopefully soon everything will be finished for the year.
(Oh, I can't wait!)
I feel like I have been not getting anything done on my projects but I keep reminding myself I am making some progress.
I have finished another nine placemats in the last few weeks.
I am so glad this placemat project is only for one year. Having so many stacks of scraps around have sure been disruptive. I am still working on the color blue - the scraps in these bins are so small!

How is your summer going? I went on a short trip to Brazil to visit my family a few weeks ago and now am designing quilts and writing patterns for amazing fabric collections that are coming up soon. Speaking of upcoming collections, Let’s Partea by Blank Quilting will be shipping to stores in August, and I created two projects for it that ...

Whenever I am ‘supposed’ to be working on something it seems like everything but that project appeals to me. Why does this happen? I should be working on piecing the blocks for the 2022 Positivity QAL. I have the pieces cut and I did get ...

Time to share the placemats I finished this month.
Today is the first National Sewing Machine Day of 2022! (the 2nd day is September 10th). To celebrate, I'm showing you a treadle that I cleaned and serviced for a friend. This was his grandmother's treadle that had been in his mother's attic for years.

The leather strap that attaches the machine lift to the table extension had snapped and wasn't fixable. Hubby fixed this by using black paracord, which ...
read moreI was asked to make some placemats for a friend. She wanted something that looked like Spring/Flowers. I'd seen something online years ago (can't remember where), and decided to do something similar.
I made 4 different blocks, using fabrics from the Pioneer Woman collection.
Then I cut each block into quarters, and stitched a quarter of each block into a center square block.
I then used some of the extra strips I'd cut to make side pieces.

I finished 8 of these placemat tops. I have the center squares stitched to make another set of ...
read moreIn April, I finished my pink placemats really early in the month. So I decided to get out my black and multi-colored scraps and work on those.
Boy, do I have a lot to share this month!
I find it interesting that each of my color bins seem to have their own personality.
My pink bins is currently cluttered with long skinny strings and lots of small triangles.
So my pink placemats for April are filled with them.
Here are four I bound with a light pink solid.
March was a very productive month for my placemat project. I finished a total of 19!
For those who are not familiar with this project - at the end of the year all of these will go to my local Meals on Wheels to be handed out with one of the holiday meals.
This month, between all of my other projects, I have been working away on my teal and aqua placemats.
I have been continuing to make placemats for my yearlong project. I have been busily sewing turquoise crumbs this month. But I also pulled a bunch of orphan blocks to turn into some too.
A few days ago, I had the bright idea to rummage through my orphan blocks to see if there were any I wanted to turn into some quick placemats.
It seemed like a bright idea because look at the state of my orphan block storage. I have a cute little suitcase that I keep my orphans in and this is no it. This is the big box I had to start using because my suitcase is overstuffed.
So digging out a few for placemats seemed like a win.
I almost had a quilt finish to share today but I am still sewing n the binding.
So I guess I will just have to share two other small finishes I had this week.
One of my RSC projects this year is to sew my crumb scraps in the monthly color into placemats.
On this last day of 2021, I don't have any quilt finishes to share but I do have a big stack of placemats completed.
