Yo-Yo Quilt Update And Masks for Cornona Virus from mequilter

I know it has been a while since I have posted any progress on my Yo-Yo quilt. I finally made some progress since I had my sewing machine up to make masks for my family and nurse friends.

But here is what you really want to see.  First I connect four rows of blocks together.

Then I sewed two rows together. They are in the middle. I was thinking I can't wait to preview border fabric but my favorite quilt shop is closed for because of the Corona Virus! So, I have to wait.

Feels good to be making ...

Coming up from the mask factory from With Strings Attached

200 masks, 39 yards of fabric. (You know me:  I keep track of what I use!)

The most recent request was, "Could I have 10 masks?  But, please, no flowers. These are for guys."  So I found some tone-on-tone.

I've tossed the mask scraps into a shoebox which now overflows.  I've thought about making blocks from the scraps as a souvenir.

I'm going to take a break from masks and get started on this month's OMG.  I hope to have photos of some accomplishment for the Weekly Update post on Monday.

Yesterday I walked over to ...

Slow Stitching and Updates from Quilting & Learning

I'm taking a short pause from my playing to make Easter supper (it's in the oven) and write a post on my many ongoing projects. There's lots to show, so here it is!

Community Stitch Challenge Redo

So far I've participated in two stitching challenges with TextileArtist.org. You may remember my challenge piece from Cas Holmes' week. I liked my piece but I knew that it didn't have the layers that Cas Holmes adds to her pieces.
Stitched piece for Cas Holmes stitching challenge
After thinking about it for a week, I remembered the ...

Quaranstitching: West of the Atlantic (With a Mask Tutorial!) from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, Kara shared what she's been working on east of the Atlantic during our Stay at Home time, both stitching and otherwise. Today, it is my turn to share the "quaranstitching" projects under my needles. At this point, I have several things going at once, so depending on how energetic I'm feeling, I can choose to be creative, or just stitch without much thought—enjoying the sheer process of the needle, thread, and fabric coming together.

My first project (after I did some organizing in my sewing studio) was to work on another block from our Woodland ...

Weekly update: Happy Easter! and a week of masks from With Strings Attached

This was certainly the most unusual Holy Week, wasn't it?  Seders by Zoom (a new meaning for "Why is this night different from other nights?").  No Maundy Thursday communion, Good Friday commemoration, or Easter Sunday service.

We did have Easter dinner: lamb and asparagus and new potatoes; spinach/orange/red onion salad. Citrus ricotta cheesecake for dessert.

The vintage Simtex tablecloth escaped the tote bag frenzy of January.  The tulips were a gift from a friend who got one of the masks. The daffodils are from our garden.

Did I say masks?

Not Much Sewing going on from 120 Blocks

I haven’t done a whole lot of sewing in a while. Part of the problem is all the pieces there were to cut for Block 4 four of Edyta’s Block of the day Quarantine quilt. Then there was the guilt … Continue reading

Staying Home! from Buzzing and Bumbling

Sugarplum is quite the helper these days!

While we're "sheltering in place" here in the Texas hill country, she's helping me choose fabrics for masks.

These are going to be used by the seafood department of a local grocery store.
I've also been baking a lot of bread! (For Christmas, my husband gave me an Ankarsrum mixer from Sweden!

In the meantime, Sugarplum is taking this sheltering-in to heart and she's reluctant to get out of bed in the morning! Who can blame her? She's snuggled up in a quilt!

Stay safe and well! Tomorrow ...

Dresses and Masks! Oh MY! from Humble Quilts

Among all the uncertainty and mask making a few people made me some dresses for my mission trip later this year.

 Thank you Beth!
 And Janet!

It is so hard to know where our world will be in two, four or six months, but there will always be needs that we can fill! Thank you both and to all those who have sent dresses! Blessings!!
I know many of you have been mask making machines! Bless you! I've been working more, but had a rare afternoon off and wanted to try my hand at making a few.
I asked ...

Weekly update: keeping busy from With Strings Attached

Here are 3.5" rail fences and 3.5" HSTs in light blue, the RSC color for April.

I have squares and strips cut for other RSC colors but right now I'm busy making masks.

So far I've made 27.   The first batch used up the small amount of 1/4" elastic I had on hand.  There wasn't any elastic left at Wal-Mart and I just don't want to deal with online ordering.

Instead I found a pattern

for mask with ties and a filter pocket . A coffee filter will work.  I bought "chenille craft sticks ...

Keep Calm and Mask On! from Appalachian Quilts

Our Governor, and now the President, have asked that we wear a face mask when we go out.  I don't go out.  Hubs has gone to the grocery twice since we have been asked to stay home.  He asked me to make him a mask.  I sent a text out to the kids to see if any of them needed a mask.  We have several in the family that are considered higher risk.

Our Governor has also asked that we fly the state flag as a sign of solidarity.  I decided our masks should also be symbolic of our ...

Strange Times from The Snarky Quilter

Who knew quarter inch wide elastic would become such a sought after commodity? And the surge of videos on how to make bias tape is another sign of our times. Then, there is a rush to buy HEPA vacuum cleaner … Continue reading

From A Distance from The Snarky Quilter

My husband and I are well stuck into our current isolation, and we’re glad our house is large enough to allow us to have our own spaces. Otherwise, we’d be tripping over each other. Of course one of my main … Continue reading

Is It Monday? from Pinkadot Quilts

This is not all of them!
So what is everyone up to? Sewing a like a maniac or not sure what to do? I find myself walking around my house and not being able to focus. I have done some sewing but not a lot. I decided that was going to change today.
I save all my orphan blocks. I also save all the snowball ends of blocks that become half square triangles. I have a lot of leftover blocks!

Yesterday I grabbed a bunch of them and layed them out. I did not have enough room! I have made ...
