November OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

For my November OMG, I chose to fully finish the Noel cross stitch piece. I decided to finish it as a cube rather than frame it. I thought it would look nicer sitting on a table than hanging on the wall.

I used the tutorial by Vonna at The Twisted Stitcher. I found the correct size styrofoam brick at Hobby Lobby. I already had the fabric and trim in my stash.

I’m very pleased with the results. Vonna’s directions are clear and it came together easily. It was a lot more fun than lacing a frame.

I’m ...

Sunday Stash November 28, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

This long holiday weekend has been a productive one. I finished the ornament for the exchange. I’m not posting that until later to keep it a surprise. I also finished another stitch project, using a small amount of fabric.

A few weeks ago at my Guild’s fabric sale, I bought some possible focus fabric candidates for a group challenge. That group met this week and picked the art deco fabric, but I still have a yard left. I also have the other piece and a small cut of something another member brought to share.

That didn’t help ...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING from Quilting My Way

Today was preparing and getting ready for Thanksgiving. Mom came over around 2 pm and we ate at about 3 pm.

I worked on my beading when we finished.

I finished the one piece. Then.......

started the second one. Which turned out to be all wrong! I kept making mistakes, and taking it out. Then as I was looking at it, I realized I started it wrong. So, all those 5 rows that I did, and took apart about 3 times, was all wrong. So, I called it quits.

The day turned out pretty good. Food was awesome and it ...

Try Anything Once from Quilt Paint Create

Finally! All the Christmas designs I stitch are in season.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers who celebrate it. It’s a quiet day here, but we are having a nice meal.

I picked this up at Needle Arts Guild last summer. One of the members passed away unexpectedly, and her family boxed up her stitch stash and told us to take what we wanted.

I limited myself to this towel and one magazine. I thought the towel had an aida band running across it. I knew I had patterns for those that I wanted to stitch. When I got ...

Sunday Stash November 21, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week.

I’ve been making yo yos for a project I won’t show for another couple weeks.

Unfortunately, the size and number didn’t use enough fabric to count. I don’t go smaller than 1/8th yard when recording fabric in or out.

I also washed the flannel and expect to cut out the nightgown soon.

The November 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s list time again! I finished two projects in October, Waugh Street Christmas and the BOM blocks. Once again I’m without a piecing project. When the list opens up I find it hard to pick what to work on next. Too many choices!

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 8 years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active categories.

Original Design – I need to start sketching ...

October 2021 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

Finishing Waugh Street Christmas was my OMG for October. I even put a label on it because the backing fabric was too busy to write on (the lazy girl’s label).

I bought the charm pack a couple years ago at the AQS show. The vintage look of the fabrics appealed to me. I made sure to use it in a way that kept the charm squares whole.

I’m done sewing Christmas now.

Make sure to visit Elm Street Quilts to see all the other October finishes.

Sunday Stash October 10, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.

I finished quilting Waugh Street Christmas and trimmed it. I searched my stash for a red or green binding fabric with no luck. It looks like the border fabric will win by default.

I’m counting out the fabric for the quilt this week and the binding fabric next week.

Fabric In: 7.125 yards

Fabric Out: 7.875 yards

Net Fabric Out: .75 yards

Hitting positive usage has been a real challenge this year. We’ll see how long it lasts.

The October 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished two projects in September, the Winter Pines runner and Noel, and had one stitched piece framed. Other projects moved forward, making it a good month

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 8 years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active categories.

Original Design – Open Dialogue may get attention in October. If not, November for sure.

Other – Waugh Street Christmas is almost quilted. This will be my ...

No changes here last week, although progress continues on multiple projects.

We have three months left in the year. How are you doing on your fabric usage goals?

I expect to be back in positive numbers this month with the completion of this quilt.

It may not last though. My Guild’s fabric sale is the last Saturday of the month.

September OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

The Winter Pines runner was my OMG for September. I needed some free motion quilting practice before tackling a larger quilt. This was a perfect practice piece.

It was fun to quilt and I love how it looks. I can’t wait to put it out in a few months.

I’m linking to the Elm Street Quilts September finish party.

A Stitch Finish from Quilt Paint Create

The stitching is complete on Noel.

I know how I want to finish it, once I find the time. I plan to get that done sometime in October.

I’ve been on the fence about which stitch project to start next. I think I need to give my eyes a break and do something easier to see. I spend all day on the computer at work. As much as I enjoy coming home and stitching, it may be a bit much. I’ve had multiple rounds of eye inflammation this year. It isn’t something I want to keep repeating ...

Sunday Stash September 19, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week.

I’m a little over half way through the quilting on Waugh Street Christmas.

I’d love to finish it this month, but there’s a lot going on this week. Some long days at work will cut into my quilting time.

Next Round of BOM Fabrics from Quilt Paint Create

Before I started quilting Waugh Street Christmas, I pulled fabric for the next BOM blocks.

These are bigger blocks – 18 inches. The pattern came out in January (2016), but I didn’t sew them first for reasons I can’t remember. Now I’m glad I waited because it gave me an opportunity to even out the color placement.

I think I’m short on one of the fabrics. I have a replacement chosen just in case.

Sewing these blocks is next on the list after quilting Waugh Street Christmas.

Sunday Stash September 12, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

I finished the runner that served as a practice piece for the Waugh Street Christmas quilting design.

I enjoyed quilting this one and loved the design. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. Panels are such a great way to practice free motion quilting.

This project was my September OMG. I was determined to finish it over the long weekend rather than dragging it out.

No fabric in this week. I haven’t visited a quilt shop in months.

HAPPY LABOR DAY! from Quilting My Way

Labor Day is one of those days were family get together and enjoy the holiday. I remember times when we would take trips driving around to find a park where we would sit and have a picnic. My dad loved to travel and always wanted to drive somewhere. When the kids where younger, we would go to a park and have a picnic. Or we would get together with friends and have a good BBQ.

This year, not so much. Patrick and I had the day to ourselves. So, we worked on cooking. Patrick got the meat for BBQ sandwiches ...

The September 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished two items in August, the circle challenge and the November BOM blocks. I just realized the BOM wasn’t on last month’s list. Sneaky how it cut to the front of the line.

August OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

I chose adding the borders and basting Waugh Street Christmas as my August OMG. I finished those tasks with plenty of time to spare.

Now I’m looking for a quilting design to fit the Christmas theme. There are several variations of the holly and berries design out there, but I’m not feeling it. This quilt is all about the fabric. The quilting design needs to play a supporting role.

I’m linking to Elm Street Quilts.

Sunday Stash August 15, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

In spite of a crazy week, I finished Circles for a little fabric out. I also got the borders on Waugh Street Christmas. After much auditioning, simpler made the most sense.

Today I need to find something light for the back. I buy a lot of neutrals, but rarely more than one yard cuts. I need 1.25 yards if I don’t want to piece the back. Muslin would work, although I prefer a fun print.

Sunday Stash August 8, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

It’s hard to believe, but the circle piece STILL isn’t finished. It’s just silly at this point. Guess what I’ll be doing today?

No change in the numbers goes without saying, but here it is for the record.

Except for the eyes and the metallic stars, I finished the “E” in Noel and started the “L”. Hand work is the cool kid on the block for me this year. It never gets old.
