A Little of This and a Little of That from The Cozy Quilter

I seem to have a bit of a green theme in this week's post...  My hand quilting is coming along slowly, as most hand quilting projects do.  I added some stitches a few days this week and decided on a diamond shape in the four patch sections.

These shapes will each get this pattern--there are five of these to do and one is done.  I used a bread and butter plate to mark the curves.

The lupins did not get much attention this week.  There is one more light purple one to add on the right (I have just ...

A Quilty Week from The Cozy Quilter

Last week, I told you about the quilt that wanted to be quilted by hand, not by machine.  After acquiring the thread I wanted to use (Aurifil 28 wt) last weekend, I started the quilting this week. I'm doing big stitch quilting, so far in the peel shapes and the arcs in the middle of the quilt.  I have figured out a quilting design for the middle of the quilt but have not started that part yet.  This is a slow stitching project, after all.

I visited our daughter and Finn last weekend.  I did lots of cross stitching ...

Almost 10 Years in the Making... from The Cozy Quilter

In October 2014, I took a class with Kaffe Fassett called "Overlapping Tiles".  We spent all day cutting squares and putting them on our design walls to come up with a pleasing composition.  Kaffe and Brandon came around the room to each quilter to make suggestions about colours/fabrics to add or take away and arranging the tiles. They added 5 fabrics to my quilt including the constant fabric--none of which I would have added myself.  I finished the quilt top a year ago. I originally planned to make a queen sized quilt, but eventually downsized it to a lap ...

Lupin Stitching in the Car in the Rain from The Cozy Quilter

Today, my husband was volunteering at a special event at a local museum.  I went with him so I could look at the WW2 displays around the property.  Shortly after we arrived, it started to rain and so I stayed in the car and listened to an audiobook while I added more stitches to my counted cross stitch Lupins. After about an hour, the rain stopped and the sun came out.  People started arriving and the day was a success.

I asked my daughter and Finn to send me a picture of her recent cross stitch finish and they sent ...

More Quilts for Survivors Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

I decided to make lots of HST's for this week's batch of blocks for Quilts for Survivors.  I did not have very much of either of these two fabrics for this block--I ended up piecing the middle square from three pieces of fabric to make it big enough.  You probably would not have noticed if I had not told you!

How about some flying geese?

Slanted Diamonds

Broken Dishes

Economy block variation

I actually have 14 blocks ready to donate now.  Two of them are not in this picture. Only 6 more to go to meet my goal ...

A Little White Lie from The Cozy Quilter

When my friend, Christine, asked me what I was sewing at the guild sewing day, I told her a little white lie.  I told her that I had worked on my sew together bag and that I had finally finished it. She asked me to send her a picture, which I "forgot" to do, until today, when I actually finished it!

The reason why I was not working on my Sew Together bag is because I was making one for Christine for her birthday.  I took her out for a birthday lunch on Friday and gave her the bag, and ...

My Sew Together Bag from The Cozy Quilter

I bought myself a kit to make a Sew Together Bag at QuiltCon in February...it came with a booklet of instructions which I have been following carefully to make my bag.  I have one more zipper and some binding to add before it is done.  The dark turquoise square is a wool needle landing.  This has been a fun project to work on and I look forward to finishing it this week.

I worked on my cross stitch Lupins this week too, adding more purple stitches as well as a few cream coloured ones.  If you use your imagination ...

Cozy Flannel Scraps from The Cozy Quilter

I keep all of my flannel scraps in a large tote bag and when the bag starts to overflow, I make a scrappy flannel baby quilt to tame them.  Last week, I showed the crumb blocks I made at a sewing day with my guild and this week, I put those scrappy blocks together to make a baby quilt top. I have enough of that darker blue left to make the binding too.  When I give one of these quilts away, I always write a note to go with it with washing and drying instructions as well as suggestions to ...

Sunflowers Cross Stitch (Finally!) Done. from The Cozy Quilter

I spent a few evenings this past week working on my Sunflowers cross stitch.  Finn likes to lie beside me on the couch while I am stitching.  When I got up to get a glass of water, he moved over to my spot... very helpful!

On Thursday evening, I added the last few stitches and gave it a good press.  TaDa!   I love how all of the bees and sunflowers look on the blue background.  I will take this in to be framed sometime in May.  The stitched part is about 11.5" by 11.5".

Last Summer, my husband ...

Guild Sewing Day from The Cozy Quilter

I have not attended the weekly Oxford Guild sewing day since before we went to Newfoundland and finally went this past Monday.  I like going because I get a lot done and there are lots of friendly quilters to chat with as I sew.  I usually bring a UFO that I want to move to the finish line. The last time, I worked on my Overlapping Tiles quilt that I started 9 years ago in a class with Kaffe Fassett, and since it is still not done, I brought it along again.  I managed to get all of the diagonal ...

Table Runner Done and Cross Stitch from The Cozy Quilter

I finished the lilac stars table runner binding off last weekend for slow Sunday stitching. It is now ready for gifting! I added a lilac print stripe on the back to make it long enough.

I managed to do some cross stitching most days this week so now I have two sunflowers done and parts of a few leaves. There are four more smaller sunflowers in this quadrant of the picture.

My daughter has been adding more colours to her Ottawa cityscape. Finn is a good cross stitch holder, don't you think???

I spent some time in my sewing ...

A Gift, Orange Blocks and a Walk in the Woods from The Cozy Quilter

On the way to sewing day on Monday, I stopped at the quilt store to pick up a gift for someone and some fabric to make a table runner for a friend who likes purple.   The lilac fabric jumped out at me as there are lots of lilacs in bloom here right now.   I bought three other colours that went with the lilacs and a striped fabric for the binding.  When I arrived at the sewing studio, of course I cut right into the new fabric and got to work on the table runner. (I was supposed to be working ...

Oxford Guild Quilt Show from The Cozy Quilter

I attended our guild quilt show on Friday and Saturday this week--our first show since before COVID.  I entered 9 quilts in the show and took pictures of them in the venue. There were several of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects including "All the Colours" based on a pattern by Gudrun Erla called Haldora.

"Scrappy 36 Patch"

"Scrappy Drunkard's Path" and "In Formation"

I put one bed sized quilt in the show--"Memories of Iceland"--the pattern is by Gudrun Erla and is called "Lupine".

"30's Plus Sign Baby Quilt"

"Scraps on Point"
( I was very happy that ...

Resurrecting an Old UFO from The Cozy Quilter

Back in October of 2014, I took a class called "Overlapping Tiles" with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Malby.    At the end of the day, I rolled up my project in a piece of flannel design wall, gathered up my fabrics and put all of it in a bin, never to even look at it again until this past Monday. I knew it was in my sewing room because every so often, I would move the bin around, always thinking that I should get back to this project and get it done.  The last time I moved the bin, I remembered ...

Slow Stitching Report from The Cozy Quilter

I spent a few hours this week hand stitching sleeves on my quilts for the upcoming Oxford Guild quilt show..5/9 are done.  The three larger quilts still need their sleeves sewn on. I can get them done this week.

I only managed to work on my sunflower cross stitch once this week so there is only a small change from last week.  I'm hoping to finish off this flower this week. We will see how much time there is after sewing the sleeves on the other three quilts.

Finn had a haircut this week. He was looking ...

Sunflowers, Sleeves and a Quilt Show! from The Cozy Quilter

More colourful petals were added to the sunflower in the centre of my project this week.  This picture will end up being a 12" circle so there is a long way to go still. I like the turquoise background--the colours in the sunflower really pop.

I may not get as much cross stitching done this week as I have entered 9 quilts into our guild quilt show in early May and I need to hand stitch the sleeves onto 8 of the quilts. (the smallest one already had a sleeve). This afternoon, I made sleeves for 6 quilts and they ...

XYLLIAN HARTZ FINISH from Kwilty Pleasures

What began as a bunch of leftover pink strips
gifted to me by Kim Hensley...
became a fun project and big surprise for me
at the end.

Sometimes the Heart(s) will surprise you!

I sent this pic to my son, Eric to show him what I was working on.
He immediately said, if I had not promised this to anyone...
HE WANTED IT!

Eric is very artistic and musically inclined.
He plays guitar, drums, and has a private radio station where
He uploads eclectic music choices
