I am still working to finish up my kitted shoofly blocks. This was last year's leader/ ender from Quiltville. Just when, I think I am getting closer to finishing, I find more of the dreaded hsts. The blocks are 4 1/2 inches. and, Bonnie Hunter used 190 in her first quilt. She used sashing, and, I am not sure I want to do that. So, I will make however many I have the parts to make. And, that will be the size of the quilt....if I ever make them all.
We had a bit of storm damage Monday night, and, some of our city was without power.
we had a tree fall on our pop up camper.
And our poor catalpa tree was ripped a bit. We saw hunks of leaves 2 houses down from us.
It looks like we cleaned out some of the dead branches from the trees.
I am working at the longarm, and, haven't had time at the machine, but, I am still trying to get through the shoofly blocks.

I have had a little fun with Bonnie Hunter's new leader / ender challenge. Easy Breezy is much easier than shoofly. With shoofly, I felt I had to practically make the block, before I could go back to my regular project. I went through my 2 inch strips, and, I collected a small batch of 4 matching squares. I didn't have as many as I had hoped. I will need to cut more from strips. But, I did get to play with a few blocks.
I am continuing to piece...no pinning or quilting for now due to the pain in wrist and hands. When the grip is weak, it is better to just do random piecing. So I have a small mixed bag of blocks for projects to share.
The Easy Breezy leader and ender project from Bonnie Hunter has a few blocks completed. The small tray on the left has a good stack of sorted paired parts for blocks.I am clipping the finished ones into stacks of 10,,,,so 11 done so far.
Bricks and Stepping Stones is a pattern also from ...
And, I am trying to catch up my shoofly blocks. I had a lot more sets cut than I thought. I may be at this awhile.
Nothing like a new leader/ender project ( easy breezy ) to motivate making the old leader/ ender project ( shoofly). I feel a little pressure to finish the shoofly blocks I have kitted, before, I forget, and, move on to something else. These are the 4 1/2 inch size, and I don't think I would have another use for the tiny HSTS pieces. For a few years, Bonnie Hunter encourages us to try a new leader/ender project.

July is here....and we are all so hot! Our common remark is, you can wear the air here. At least the sun is shining. Right?
Little by little I worked on the batik project. One or two rows joined every few days and finally it is a top. Now I see a few spots I should have moved. Isn't that the way it goes? But for now it is what it is. It is just intended for a sofa throw. I need to order some backing fabric and then it can get quilted.
In between the joining the ...
Bonnie Hunter of quiltville has announced a new leader/ender challenge for the next year. It's called easy breezy, and, it looks to be just that. She has given the directions for 2 sizes, a 6 inch and a 4 inch. It has taken me awhile to decide what I want to do. And, I am not sure I have. My first thought was to make the bigger block, since, we did little last time, and, I didn't get very far. But, it occurred to me that, if, I make the smaller size, I can use that with ...

I made one block for shine using 2 1/2 inch strips.
I made 10 blocks for country roads using 1 1/2 inch strips. I really like these blocks.
We have had a wonderful week of summer weather, sunshine, and not too hot. The garden has been happy, and so has hubby who really likes to be outside. He is still off work for ...
Oh my, I see in the picture, one of my shoofly has a HST turned the wrong way. sigh... I didn't see it before blogging about it.
In an effort to tidy around my sewing machine, I made a few random blocks. I need to attach a binding and if I don't clean everything will end up in a jumbled mess on the floor. haha
These shoofly blocks are made with the gifted hsts from the orphan adoption at Oh scrap.

I am working on a customer quilt to pass the time. I really like her colors.
I have the border pieces done for frolic mystery quilt. I just have to get brave enough to cut/trim the edges to add the borders
And I have made more shoofly blocks. Working with tiny scraps has been therapeutic, but I also realize, I don't need any "real" fabric. I could make a million quilts with just tiny little scraps and never see the end of them.

I won a quilty orphan adoption from Erin Hutchinson From My patchwork life
I asked for the little bag of HSTS 1 1/2 inch size for my shoofly blocks. Aren't they wonderful? Thank you Erin - great fun
Remember as a little child, playing with paper dolls or colorforms or mosaics. I felt like that, as I ironed and sorted all the little triangles. I trimmed them, and, I was entranced with sorting them into color groups. So pretty, and many I had not seen in my own stash, So much happiness in a little zip lock bag.

I find it difficult to blog these days. Not because I don't have the time, but, because there is nothing remotely interesting to share. I have a project shelf loaded with ufos, And way too much fabric to ever use in a lifetime. But, I am fiddling with cutting little pieces of scrap fabrics into useable pieces, a handful at a time. These are a few blocks that are the results of that. These are blossom time from Bonnie Hunter and quiltmaker.

I went to Sam's club Tuesday for, of all things, prunes. I was pretty sure they are not flying off the shelve and I would find some. I stopped at Aldi's first looking for prunes, and, found to my surprise, fresh produce and some canned fruit and vegetables, but, no prunes. It takes awhile after surgery to - you need prunes.
I found them at Sam's, and I found this great plastic storage container begging to come home with me. It didn't have a fever so I brought it home.
Each container in the set of 4 ...
Just as I was running out of triangles for shoofly, I found this cute little gifted pack of triangles.
I sewed and sewed ...
And then I started trimming to 1 1/2 inch.
Last week's to do:
1. go home from the hospital - done
2. rainbow row by row in teal - some progress
3. border pieces for frolic mystery quilt - some progress
Dare I even hope to get something done next week? Staying home is my normal, so it doesn't seem like a burden yet. Jeff was supposed to stay in for 2 weeks anyway.

My hubby has back surgery Monday. We are in a daze, and, I haven't really been sewing much. I have finished a few more little things. I have a a few shoofly blocks which is a leader/ ender challenge at Quiltville. I am doing the same size as Bonnie which finishes at 4 1/2 inches. So far, I have not cut any triangles for this, but have used leftover triangles I have in a bucket.
I did quick count, and have 40 blocks.

My hubby's heart catheritization went well - no blockages. But, it was a long day. There were 2 emergency hearts that were the high priority, so we did a lot of waiting. The prceedure was 15 minutes, but we were there from 10:30 am to 9:30 pm. Now, we wait to see if the back surgery will be rescheduled. My mind has been a little absent lately. I was grateful for the fun little bits of machine time I have had. It does soothe the soul. I have a few new shoofly blocks.
And the pile is growing ... read more
