At one point in my life I thought it would be a good idea to make a family heirloom wedding quilt … one which could be used by each newly married member of the family for a short time after the wedding. As it turned out I am glad I didn’t do it because I have heard of families where the extended families attended two weddings very close together and far apart so getting the quilt from one couple to another would have been difficult, even if the first couple had returned from their honeymoon.

I still like the idea ...
read moreA customer sent me two Double Wedding Ring quilts made by her grandmother. She asked if I could take pieces off of the more “loved up” quilt (great words!) and use them to restore the less damaged one. The quilts were both totally scrappy. Some fabrics appeared in both quilts, but not all. This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to try that scenario!
The owner told me:
My grandmother... used my mom's little dresses and probably her sisters' dresses also. My grandmother had 5 girls.
Suitable for the honeymoon suite of any hotel or motel!

My favourite for today is the first one, but like the second one too.
read moreNice one, but a bit late to start it if you are going to a wedding this weekend.

I like the second one of today’s pair.

Love the second design, and there is no problem with the corners or anywhere else!
read moreI LOVE all of you! And I truly appreciate your reading my blog, and I've received so many fantastic suggestions. Jan gave me a BRILLIANT suggestion for the two UFO Clubs. I will pick a project to work on in one of the UFO clubs, and the assignment for the second one will be to quilt and bind one of my quilts. That's BRILLIANT. I'm going to have to do that as soon, I'm going to run out of room in those tubs, and I really don't want to buy another one.
Yippeee!!! I love ...
read moreHere it is - -the morning of the 4th day of our retreat, and I'm making significant progress. I can't believe how quickly these days are passing. WOW!!! We're settling comfortably into our "new" retreat house. It's close to us, and as we become more familiar with it, we're learning to like it as much as the old one. If you want to check it out -- it's called retreat at the Farm. Please note that our five days here are very unusual and were granted because of COVID and a few other minor details. Usually ...
read moreFor me this brings back memories of the day I started Virtual Quilter. A lot of virtual quilts have had their day in the spotlight since then!

The second one is different, but I like it, though the first one is my favourite.
read moreI haven’t found the will to make a Wedding Ring quilt but Floral Wedding Ring would be the first choice of style if I ever make one.

The second one is my first pick of today’s pair of designs.
read moreGood morning! Oh boy -- it's been a super busy morning and well, OK - so I got up early. But that's simply because I went to bed early. I did get my required hours of sleep. But as I lay in bed this morning contemplating what I have to do - well, there's ZERO time for laying around!
I have to say this mouth breathing versus nose breathing has me in a tizzy. I'm so conscious of it now that I'm not sure I was ever a mouth breathing. WAIT -- that's a total lie. I think ...

The porch was a hotspot yesterday! I should have taken a picture of the two bags of fabric that Diane picked up in the morning. Actually, that was an exchange as she left me this in place of the two bags.

I think there are six quilts in total in that basket. Yep - the basket is mine, in case you didn't figure that out. I sent it to Diane a while ago filled with fabric.
Then I had someone pick up a quilt that I quilted for them. And they dropped off a ...

I prefer the first one, but the second one is very interesting.
read moreOh gosh -- while I was out walking Murphy, I remembered my other thought! When I returned from the gym, I drove past Tim's, as I always do. And I didn't give it one thought of stopping in to get breakfast like I would have in the past. I haven't been in quite a while and would certainly not classify myself as a regular any longer. Amazing how quickly I gained that habit and amazing how long it took to break it!
It's not tea weather right now anyway!!! September is coming.
It's amazing what you ...
read moreA couple of observations before I start. I was up early (as usual) and off to the gym. I wanted to go, then I didn't want to, and finally, I just said - get your butt in gear and go! There are very few people at the gym at 5 AM. I walked for 2 KM on the treadmill, and to keep myself entertained, I turned on the TV. Good grief! Who can watch this stuff? I had the local news channel on, which would be the equivalent of CNN??
Anyway, the type of station that has people talking (I ...
read moreWhile I loved being away at the quilt retreat, it's always nice to get back home! And yes - I switched pillows last night. It's too early to tell, but my neck does feel a bit better this morning. It's also that lunatic dog of mine that doesn't help! Walking Murphy is like getting mini-whiplash! She's so much better, but I bet that hasn't helped the situation.
I couldn't help myself; I contacted Paula's daughter to tell her the quilt top was done! She LOVES it. And so she should - her Mom chose ...
read moreHmm -- I discovered something this morning when I woke up. I've had a wee issue with some muscles in my neck, and I noticed that they were significantly less when I was at the retreat, even though I was sewing a lot. Could it be my pillow? My pillow isn't as thick and fluffy as the one at the retreat house - perhaps I need to try a new pillow. But I was off to the gym this morning! There are so few people at 5:30 AM.
Well, yesterday was a great day! In the morning, I had ...
read moreIt's raining this morning, and I'm NOT going for a walk in the rain. So no walk this morning. Perhaps later today. It's been fun walking, and last evening, we clocked the length of the driveway. It's about 300 steps one-way and takes about 2 minutes 20 seconds. So if we did that every hour, that would be a great little pick me up.
When I booked this place because our other retreat house was sold, we weren't sure. It's someplace new. You have to learn where everything is. Will the house be big ...
read moreSo here we are at Retreat at the Farm. It's a LOVELY house and much larger than I expected. There are only four of us for the next couple of days which is just fine - we each get our own bedroom. Sometimes, it's a good thing to pay a little more and get more space than intended. I love it!!
It was an easy drive to get here - the traffic was great, and the traffic lights were synced, so slightly over one hour of travel time. I love that as well.
And I'm happy to report that ...
