Hampton Court Quilt Pattern - A Scrappy Black and White Throw Quilt! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing another Hampton Court quilt. This time it's a scrappy black and white quilt. Some of my favorite fabrics to collect are black prints with just white in them. They're so versatile.

Hampton Court is a great stash-busting quilt pattern that calls for fat quarters or yardage, and it's super easy to translate that into using fabric from your scrap bins.

PQ 12. 6 Ab Intra challenge from Sew Sunshine

So Project Quilting 12.6 challenge is Ab Intra -Latin for 'from within'. Once again I wanted to combine scraps for #nationalquiltingmonth #sewthescrapoutofmarch all month long. I thought of a couple things I could do but came back to starting with my favorite color combo black and white...and use prints I had in my scrap pile. The center sort of represents me and then building bits around is kind of like building on experiences. Using scraps was perfect for that because you never know what you will run into.

First finish for May 2020................ from Exuberant Color

This quilt top was finished in April 2014 and now it is quilted and bound, a real finish. It is 74" x 95".

It is a Kathy Doughty design which she called Soul Searching. I think it looks like party lanterns so that is what I will call mine.

This is the book from C&T Publishing that the quilt and directions are in. I added crosswise rows at both ends to make it more rectangular and it fits a twin/single bed.

Playing with stash again.......... from Exuberant Color

While I am sewing my African fabric 16 patches I also continue to think about this yellow black and white project. I decided to look for some fabrics to use for some alternate blocks with the crazy pieced blocks. These 2 positive/negative prints aren't batik and all of the fabrics so far have been batik.

I have been looking for a place to use the birds batik.

This pair of positive/negative prints are batik also.

I have many black and white zebra batiks so I tried this pair.

I'll continue sewing and pondering..........

2 more variations............ from Exuberant Color

Same star as yesterday but with Broken Dishes center.

The blocks will finish at 20" so I only need to make 12 of them for a 60" x 80" quilt top. That is assuming I won't add sashing or a border.

Two changes on this one. First the center is a pinwheel. Second the 3 colored squares together on the top half of the block and 2 split squares and 1 whole square on the bottom half of the block. I originally planned to do them with whole (not pieced) squares and since I have over 400 cut that ...

Making it in shades of black and white from Sew Sunshine

So far this has been a kind of a rough year for me health-wise and now it seems it will be so much more than rough for everyone. I am going to choose to keep working on my projects when I have good days because it really does make me feel better.

I started sewing some of my black and white prints together back in Jan. I wanted mindless sewing so I made 4 big squares.

I kind of think this would have made a fun quilt as is but I decided to cut them up and sew them back ...

Red, Black and White 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

I keep finding little clumps of projects which have been shoved in a corner and forgotten. This project file is one of half a dozen found under a virtual stash of block drawing projects. All the blocks are basically pieced 9P blocks.

LOL! The seam lines look like I used white thread to piece everything together … something I would have to unpick in a real project, but it can be an advantage when sharing virtual designs as you can see the seam lines. But in the virtual world, we don’t always see the same thing on our screens!

2019 was pretty busy!

Cents and Sensibility was accepted to Alexandria Museum of Art exhibit, Concrete and Adrift: On the Poverty Line.

Back Yard Beauty went to Mid-Alantic Quilt Festival in Pennsylvania.

Lichen hung at Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center in Baton Rouge.

Too Raw (Too Soon Every Day to Talk About Gun Violence) was accepted to the Tom Peyton Arts Festival, and Alexandria Museum of Art September Competition, AND was awarded the purchase prize at the latter.

Feathers, Scales and Tails: Night Flight went to Quilteroo's in Ruston, La., and Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.

2019 is my black and white year. It all started with the Interwoven Quilt Along. Stripes in black and white- easy peasy- but that was not how it worked. It was difficult to have the right 1/4" seams. I got the pattern from Lo and Behold Stitchery.

Decisions made............ from Exuberant Color

I decided that I would separate the brighter blocks from the pastel ones and then added the scenery fabric with the bright blocks. I'll probably use the pansy fabric for the back. It was on the right side in the photo yesterday. This one will end up about 40" x 56" and will be a sharing quilt, probably for a cancer patient.

The pastel blocks will be a baby quilt with this green diagonal plaid for the back. I think I might have enough of it to put a small border on the top since it is only going ...
