Second finish for February 2026................. from Exuberant Color

This isn't a typical baby quilt design, but because this quilt is only 29.5" x 37", the size makes it appropriate.  It was started in a workshop in 1991 when we were to design several blocks, choose one, and repeat the block for an original design.  I used one of the very earliest packages of Cherrywood hand dyed fabric by Dawn Hall, the originator of the Cherrywood dyeing technique.  She was the niece of my employer at a quilt shop.  The other fabrics were from my stash.

I still had enough of the white, gray, beige print in ...

PLUS ONE!!!! It's going to be PLUS ONE!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love all your comments about being busy in retirement! I will always be busy, but I guess my point is that I see retired people constantly signing up for commitments. They head up a committee, take tons of classes, or make themselves accountable to SOMETHING or SOMEONE, and that accountability fills their day. It's almost like working again.

You need to be busy, but if you decide to take a day off from quilting, who will care? I want to be busy, but free of deadlines and headaches! And being accountable to others. While I still have responsibilities ...

Monday night sewing................. from Exuberant Color

I had two sessions of hand stitching last night.  I'm approaching the 4th corner now and part of the next side (a short side) is already stitched.  One more night should do it.  I'm done with PT until the last Friday of the  month so I will have more time at home in the studio for a while.

This is what I worked on between those 2 sessions, 16 more double 4 patch blocks.

There are two blocks alike of each of these, 4 in each combination of fabrics.

And two of each of each block in these ...

A little more................. from Exuberant Color

Not a lot of progress was made on hand stitching Purple Rosy's binding.  I have completed 3 corners so that makes me happy.

I spent many hours working on my computer, searching for photos, cleaning up files, and much more.

Here is another photo of the prettiness I'm looking at as I stitch away.

I'm looking forward to 40 degrees when I leave for PT today.

Oh Scrap! : Binding from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I decided to spend this week going through the scrap bin and grabbing fabric that was appropriate for bindings.  Most of these scraps came from the trimmings of backing after quilting.

I set to work cutting all the cotton scraps into 2.5" wide and the flannel into 3" wide strips.  I also went ahead and sewed the strips all together.  I know this pile might not look that big but I could easily hide a small child underneath it.

I divided them up into 7 grocery bags - there are about 10 bindings in each bag.  I am hoping I ...

Binding progress........................ from Exuberant Color

Now I have one and a half sides hand stitched on Purple Rosy.  The long side is 82" so I started with that one.  I'm really happy with this diagonal stripe for the binding.

These are the colors on the needles for this month's dishcloths.

Today will be 30 degrees and then we will be above freezing for a week..or more.  The little bit of snow that was on the grass melted on Friday.  There are still small piles at the side of my driveway.

The Olympics have officially begun! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

FOCUS --- it's a tricky thing! But I have my visual list and my blue UFO bin, and I refuse to let anything get in the way of finishing those projects. Oh -- there are loads of things to do, but I know I can't do them all, so I picked a few, and that's my goal! It has taken me a very long time to get to that point, but I refuse to get sidetracked!

Just a teaser: this is the project Dede and I worked on. Wait—soon you'll get to see it yourself. Absolutely stunning ...

Decision made...................... from Exuberant Color

Either one of the fabrics I pulled to audition for the binding choice on Purple Rosy would have worked but I ended up choosing the diagonal stripe.  This is the original fabric, not the archive reprint.  I only got about 24" hand stitched last night.

I sewed 2 more combinations of fabrics into Double 4 patches.  There are 2 of each of these, so 8 blocks were sewn.

We got up to 37 degrees yesterday, the first time above freezing in almost 3 weeks.  Now we have 2 colder days over the weekend and then 30s and 40s next week.

Trimmed..................... from Exuberant Color

Purple Rosy has had been trimmed so I will have another binding to do.  I want to finish this one by hand.

That will be good because my main Pfaff machine is having problems.  It has no tension and I have checked everything that I can get to.  I'll bring one of my other machines upstairs.

I looked for binding choices but haven't explored all of the choices yet.  These 2 are possibilities but I need to lay them at the edge of the quilt and see just 3/8" to decide.

Yesterday a friend came over to ...

Finished..........(second post today).......... from Exuberant Color

The binding was cut and sewn on by 4 p.m. today so I had time to go down and photograph it.

This quilt is made of floral fabrics that are mostly from the 1990s, with a few newer ones added in for variety.  They are 6" squares and really show off the beauty of the florals.

This is the binding fabric, black, brown and green.  I picked it because it went best with the back.  I had other choices that I liked with the front but not the back.

The back is one of my favorite floral fabrics and ...

Done, done, and DONE! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thanks for the heads up on the links. I have to click each link twice to get the HTTPS thing at the beginning. I've been very careful, but perhaps I've slipped up on a couple. I will attempt to pay even more attention to that little detail!

I did not post about Colour My World yesterday, nor will I do it today. I'll aim for tomorrow. Today, it's all about the finishes!

I have hosted the UFO Club for over five years, and in that time, things have gotten done not only for me but for ...

Finished!............... from Exuberant Color

I didn't want to deal with keeping pink checks or plaid straight for binding so I used the gray one that had enough yardage.  This flannel baby quilt is 32" x 40".

This little quilt has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it.  I used white thread to quilt it on my Pfaff 7570.

This pile of mail that I have received in 9 days is
19 solicitations for money.  There is even 2 from each of 2 organizations, like I didn't react soon enough so I need a 'reminder'.  Obviously some charity sold my address to some data ...

It's the small things that make a difference from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh crap --- it's likely that I messed up the links again. I'll repost the link for that video on how learning a second language can save your life. Please tell me that it is only some links, not all!!!

Here is the missing link from yesterday.

I cannot tell you how happy I am these days! Getting those niggling little UFOs done does way more for my happiness level than money or happy pills ever could. And I've taught (forced) myself to be persistent and focused. And get the darn thing DONE - don't just move it ...

A little bit of everything................. from Exuberant Color

I had a few things to take care of in the basement so while I was down there I got this little quilt ready for basting.  It didn't keep my interest though so I moved on.

My friend who visited on Monday wanted to buy some black and white batik fabrics for this quilt.  I had the fabrics in 2 bins and had large and small pieces all mixed together.

I want to sort through them now and get all of the small pieces in one bin and large pieces in the other bin.  There is a lot more ...

The creep from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

How quickly the clutter returns to the desktop! I must set aside a few minutes each day to deal with the stuff!

How quickly the days are flying by!!!! Can you believe that we are almost two weeks into this year? ACK!!

How quickly has our snow come and gone! Here are a couple of pictures from that folder that I accidentally deleted. The little plow came by very early in the morning and cleared the sidewalk. While we still have to shovel - well, some people think they don't have to - we still need to shovel the snow out ...

Progress on two..................... from Exuberant Color

This top was simple to finish; it just needed two side borders.  I rarely add top and bottom borders first because that just makes the side borders longer.  I think that when I sewed the first two borders on, I hadn't found the big piece of the fabric and only had enough for those 2 short borders.  Later I found a piece almost 2 yards long so I have enough of it for the back of the quilt too.  These fabrics are from the late 1980s - early 1990s and the top was designed and started in a workshop in ...

Finish #7 for December 2025............... from Exuberant Color

This quilt was made from a couple trays of plaid squares that were cut several years ago.  I made 16 patch blocks and then went to the design wall for the layout.  It is 39" x 47".  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and was quilted on my Pfaff.

I had this cute farm print fabric that is on the back in my stash.  The binding is a yarn dyed woven stripe.

I think the binding looks good with the fabrics on both sides of the quilt.

I had a dishcloth near a finish so I worked on ...

A mitten review from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yikes—after the clothes comments, I'd better get myself organized and get rid of some of these excess clothes! I use the dryer all the time, but I don't wear once and wash. It's a T-shirt, I'm in the house and practically have a desk job, I'm not a stinky person, and YES - most of my clothes are old. I wear them until they wear out, which takes a long, long time. The poor sweatshirt I'm wearing this morning is probably 20 years old. It's faded, and I am hoping to replace it ...

Still hand stitching................. from Exuberant Color

I worked on the hand stitching on the binding of this medallion quilt a few times yesterday.  I have about 40" left to stitch.

I have only one cactus currently in bloom.  This orange one is so pretty.  I don't see buds on any of the others in the living room and dining room.  I have one on the kitchen windowsill that is 4 pieces that broke off of one plant and I rooted them and planted them all in one pot.  There is one bud on one of them so I hope it gets to the blooming stage ...

Binding started................. from Exuberant Color

I got the binding sewn onto the medallion quilt and got 1 1/2 sides hand stitched last night.  This one should take me 3 evenings to finish.

A couple weeks ago I got a package from Nann.  She went to Kay Sorenson's estate sale and got these 2 fabrics for me.  She knew that Kay and I were friends.  What she didn't know is that the fabric on the left is one of my very favorite African fabrics.  The one on the right is an Australian fabric by M&S textiles.  It is a lot different than ...
