Hello, September! from From the Strawberry Patch...

I'm afraid that this post is yet, another, catch-up post which will be strangely reminiscent of that old beginning-of-school assignment we all remember: "How I Spent My Summer Vacation"! I do have lots of show and tell, bear with me. As the weather allowed, and it wasn't too hot, I spent many an afternoon stitching out on the porch where the light is perfect! These are a sampling of the

Health supplements! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes on my arrival home. I'm glad that you enjoyed my vacation along with me! I also love living vicariously through others' experiences because I certainly won't get everywhere myself. That's my favorite thing about social media. It's so easy to stay connected. I don't need or want to get disconnected -- while I don't mind being alone, I'm a social person at heart!

Where would you like to go with me next year? I have a couple of places in mind, but nothing solid yet.

And it was ...

The signs of autumn from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- someone turned off the heat! It's cold. I wore shorts yesterday, but I think I'll find some pants this morning.

So far, so good on the jet lag. With the full day of travel and the ability to sleep like a baby on the plane, I didn't need a nap yesterday and went to bed at my usual time. I did wake up in the night, but was able to get back to sleep, and so the day is now just like any other day! Let's hope I don't get hit with a whammy ...

A little stitching time................ from Exuberant Color

I had an appointment in the middle of the morning yesterday and ran an errand while I was out.  I found a little time to work on the binding of this last table runner.

I have my first cucumber.  The package said 3 - 5" and this one is 6".   My grandson and his fiancĂ© brought stuffed shells and sausage and while it was cooking we went out to check the garden.  I had totally missed this cucumber growing and I check the plant regularly.  There is another one that I can probably pick tomorrow.  I'm growing them for the ...

Miscellany................. from Exuberant Color

Off and on all day yesterday I did a little hand stitching on the binding of table runner 2 and finished it last night.  One more to go; binding is sewn on, hand stitching needed.

I have looked into this project box 3 times lately, maybe it is time to make something from it.  The pile on the left has 173 batik squares.  Under the 57 wonky pieced blocks is another pile of 140 squares.  I did some calculations and I could make a 65" x 90" quilt from the pile of squares on the left plus the wonky pieced ...

One down, 2 to go............. from Exuberant Color

The binding on the first table runner was finished by machine, not my best job.  It will have to be gifted to a non-sewist.

I changed my mind on the binding for the other 2 table runners.  This warm tone little stripe is better.  I got the binding sewn on both of them and started the hand sewing on one of them.

The lower humidity is finally here with a dew point of 55.  It sounds like it might go down from that in the next few days.  50's at night and windows open, finally!

Machine quilting............................. from Exuberant Color

It is getting toward the end of the month so I decided I need to get something finished.  I quilted this table runner and mug rug first, trimmed them, cut binding and finished the binding on the mug rug.

I don't think the quilting shows up much but I quilted both of the table runners like this one and I'll get them trimmed this morning and cut binding.  I have Warm and Natural batting in all of these and it can be quilted quite far apart so I ditch quilted the seams where the 4" blocks joined and ...

It's Me... from From the Strawberry Patch...

This blog post is going to be more of a pictorial update of the past week than a word-filled one. I guess I have more time to snap pics than to compose. So, c'mon along while I fill you in on the happenings in and around Chez Goodneedle... and beyond! Our oldest granddaughter represented North Carolina in the Southern Zone Championships in Orlando last week. We drove down to watch her compete

Testing the panel blocks....................... from Exuberant Color

I cut squares from the Marcia Derse panel fabric and tried them with the MD 16 patch blocks.  Some areas are light and some darker so every square looks different.  I have 100 sixteen patch blocks  made and need 120 so I could use 20 squares cut from the panel.  It really isn't a panel even though they call it that.  The stores are just cutting at the repeat of the design.

I continued hand stitching the binding while a plumber was here for 3 hours yesterday.

The plumber tried to clear the plugged bathroom sink drain but he ...

Starting the binding............... from Exuberant Color

The binding is cut and sewn onto the Martha Negley fabric quilt.  I hand stitched about 15" of it.

Here I go matching my quilt and nature photos again.

I went out in full sun to get this photo.  The back part of the bush is already in shade by noon.

And because the Zinfin Doll Hydrangea is so pretty, here is a little closer shot.

The plant I showed last week has a few more blooms.  There is another plant growing in a crack that might be another of these.  I think 2 years ago I decided this is ...

First finish of August 2025.................... from Exuberant Color

I finished the top of this quilt in April 2023 so it has been waiting a while to be finished.  All of the fabrics on the front are Australian Aboriginal prints.  It is 50" x 71".

On the back is one full length of the Australian black and white print and added to that is a New Zealand fabric.

I used Hobbs 80/20 batting and it was quilted by Robin Diaz.

I had forgotten I added a border to this quilt and saw it when I spread out the quilt for trimming.  That reminded me that I had planned ...

Binding finished..................... from Exuberant Color

The binding was finished all by machine last night.  I will check it by daylight today to make sure I didn't miss any spots, black thread on black fabric....

I started another dishcloth too.  I wish this yarn was white and black instead of cream and black.

Trimming....................... from Exuberant Color

There are 2 quilts ready to trim and binding to search for.

I decided to tackle the smaller of the two.  The top is all Australian/Aboriginal fabric and the backing is part Australian and part New Zealand fabrics.

I pulled three Australian fabrics as possible binding choices.  I think it will be either the top or bottom one.  The bottom one is only black with white swirls and the top one has a black background with many colors in it.  I'll check them out in daylight today.

I spent 10 minutes pulling weeds in the front flower bed ...

It was binding day...................... from Exuberant Color

I had the binding sewn onto the flannel baby quilt before lunch time yesterday.  I need to take some blocks off the design wall before I can take its full portrait.

These are the blocks that need to be removed from the design wall.  I added the 4 new ones so I could take a photo of all 36 blocks (one of each combination of fabrics, two alike of each are sewn).  This wasn't necessarily the final layout but I have a photo of it now if I do want to start with this when I get the rest ...

Another hot day.......... from Exuberant Color

Yesterday I found a flannel binding fabric that was lightweight and the right color for this little flannel baby quilt.  I hope I will get it sewn on today.

A friend came over and was designing a quilt on my design wall.  She brought Subway sandwiches, yum!

I had another dishcloth more than half knitted so I finished it late yesterday afternoon.

That gave me permission to start another one (or two).

I cut the black and white squares for another idea I have.

The overnight temperatures are staying up in the mid to high 70s, some close to 80 ...

Choosing the binding................ from Exuberant Color

A decision had to be made for the binding.  I chose 3 fabrics that I liked with the big rose backing fabric.

I narrowed it down to my two favorites.  Either one would work well so I had to decide which one to use.

This one is my choice and I got it cut but not sewn on yet.

Saturday there was one pile of 2" squares.  Now there are 3 piles.  More cutting to happen.

The sunlight was coming from the west and created a glow on the top of the Brown-eyed Susan plants, to the right of the ...

Butterflies finished.............................. from Exuberant Color

I got busy early in the day yesterday with the binding on this quilt.  It is all done by machine.  I'm going to round off the numbers and say this is 35" x 44".  Most of the fabrics are from the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s.

I think the backing fabric is from the same time period.  Most of the butterfly blocks were made in that time period too.  There were line drawings of them in a book but no patterns or measurements if I remember right.  The little hourglass blocks were used as fillers to put ...
