This is the time of year when many people set resolutions and select words of the year. Historically I haven’t done either of those, but this year I resolve to get rid of my flannel fabric and my word of the year is “scraps.”
Even though I regularly use flannel for donation quilts, there is still a lot in my stash. It is bulky and takes up way too much room on the shelves. Because of the bulk, I don’t like to use it for intricate piecing so the quilts I make from it are kind of boring ...

I can’t say I’m sad to see 2023 go. Personally, it was one of the most difficult years in a long time. Sometimes I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around everything that happened. But life moves on.
My word for 2023 was “Listen”, and I admit early on I didn’t. Lessons learned there. My word for 2024 is “Ask”. I don’t understand why that’s my word, which means I’m starting with no expectations. That may be ...
read moreWell, it's almost May and yes, I am just now getting around to sharing my word of the year quilt. That's because I JUST finished it this past week. Yikes! I chose a word before 2023 even started.... my word is Stretch! But I had no idea how to reflect it in a quilt.
When I was at Quiltcon in February, I took a design class, Inspired by Architecture, from David Owen Hastings. Let me tell you, David's design process is soooooo different from mine! I learned so much from him and was determined to apply some ...

read moreI haven’t decided on plans for 2023, but I have the word for next year.
My 2022 word was FIND. I thought it would take me back to my roots, to the things I love the most. I saw some of that through the year, but mostly FIND helped me change my habits to make room for the important things. It’s still a work in process, but I see movement in the right direction. Later in the year, FIND helped adjust my attitude to make mental space for change. The attitude adjustments continue.
I had some big ideas ...

read moreFollowing on from my last post, I'm back to share my new word of the year and a very special project I created. It seems so late to say this but Happy New Year to you all, I am sending my very best wishes to you all for a marvellous, healthy and joy filled 2022!
At the start of the year I like to look back at last year’s word before living this year’s word.
Last year my word was CHOOSE. I wanted to be more deliberate about what I included in my life and what I let go. But those words, they have their own ideas.
I learned there isn’t always a right or wrong choice. Choices are simply different. Different choices take you down different paths, and sometimes both paths lead to the same destination. It comes down to what you want to experience along the way and who you ...

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I am not a resolution maker. Studies show that most resolutions are broken by January 16. Really? Not even a whole month? I have a word for the year. My word for the year sets the tone for goals I set throughout the year. I don't just 'pie in the sky' a word. There is a lot of thought and prayer that go in to the choice for the year.
My word for 2022 - RESET
Sometimes a new word for the year comes through a lot of soul searching and looking through lists on the internet. Other times, it comes and slaps you in the face and says, "choose me". I think you can guess that my face is still smarting right now.
I find that the Word of the Year that requires research gets easily forgotten in the year. The Word for 2021 is Respect, and I had to look on my blog several times this year to see what it was!
Sometimes when I make a post here, I worry that it might ...
