CHURNING OUT SOME WONKY! from Kwilty Pleasures

I have a trunk show available for groups, guilds called

"Let's Get WONKY"

The idea is to take a traditional quilt block

and make it wonky.

That's the idea here and I used

Missouri Star, Freestyle Churn dash tutorial

I had a Layer Cake and needed to give

this a try.

I love the result!

The backing uses same concept, my design, on a larger scale.

I gave it to Kim Hensley of

Happily Every Quilting.

We decided on the E2E Design WHITESPACE!

It's just perfect for this one.

WONKY CHURN DASH from Kwilty Pleasures

I have wanted to make a wonky churn dash block

quilt for a very long time.

I had an Autumn Woods Layer Cake

from Kate and Birdie.

I wanted something fall-ish for my great room.

Sew I snooped around the internet and found a

Freestyle Churn Dash tutorial by

Missouri Star.

Seemed like a good idea.

No need to reinvent the wheel

if the car is already moving!

I also found a pattern, but I preferred the tutorial.

NEVER TOO EARLY FOR CHRISMAS TREES! from Kwilty Pleasures

I luv me some wonky trees.

A Crazy Christmas Tree pattern was gifted

to me by a friend. I borrowed the Creative Grids

Spider Web Ruler from another friend

sew I could make this fun project.

During the summer I was busy working

on my trees for an upcoming guild presentation.

My Lets' Get Wonky presentation is sew fun.

I show traditional blocks and then how I

WoNKY them up!

The table runner was quick and easy to make.

I did some simple straight line quilting.

And love how it turned out.

WONKY SWEATSHIRT from Kwilty Pleasures

When you find a unique color in a sweatshirt

At a thrift store…

That looks good with red hair…

You know it can be turned into

Something FUN!

Sew I cut of the ribbing around the bottom of sweatshirt amd around the neck, leaving that ribbing hard edge.

That keeps the sweatshirt from rolling up and a

Nice clean loom at the neckline.

I ribbing at bitten give a loose fit!

I made a wonky churn dash block,

fused it on and stitched it down with machine zigzag.

Cut the sleeves a bit shorter and sewed on

I don’t know the maker so I can’t credit them,

butbthey are a member of thr SWFMQG

I had a hoarded Jelly Roll of WEEDS, by

me and My Sisters Designs, paid $22

Now look at the pricing on Etsy!

I didn’t want the red strips as

I was thinking a more scrappy feel.

I just used the black and white strips.

At the end of each strip I added

for a 2nd trunk show, this time...

‘Let’s Get WONKY’ presentation.

I showed a Traditional block and then

a WONKY or Modern block.

LOG CABIN BLOCKS - THREE WAYS from Kwilty Pleasures

Gather some strips, scraps work just fine.

Let's take a look at THREE OPTIONS to make

a log cabin block.

I keep a lot of 2 1/2" strips in my stash.

FIRST option is a Traditional Log Cabin Block

There are a lot of tutorials and cheat sheets on-line.

Like this one.

I cut my pieces in colors I like.

Make a mug rug!

Find a backing, layer and quilt

SECOND Option is QAYG (Quilt as you Go) technique

Grab a piece of batting an inch or two larger than

what you want the mug rug to be ...

WONKED UP GHASTLIES! from Kwilty Pleasures

I was part of a small Ghastlies swap many years ago and

I just couldn't figure out what to do with

12 wonderful wonky Ghastlie blocks.

Sew that sat on a shelf for a very long time.

I found some fabric that I knew would be

just perfect for a design I had in mind, FINALLY!

Its the green and white fabric below.

I decided to combine the wonkiness of

the star blocks with some sashing in green

and black cornerstones, very traditional!

But first, some design wall playfulness.

And it all came together in this flimsy!
