July in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

The garden is blooming still, get ready for a picture heavy post! We are fortunate to have a very long blooming season as the spring flowers fade and the summer beauties show their colors. Late June and early July is the time for the day lilies to shine.  I still have several varieties, and will be pulling at least one more up this fall to give away.  I’m just tired of them and need more shrubs and fewer bulbs.  The ruffled edged two tones are all I have left now.

May in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

Lovely blooms are flourishing in the garden, so get ready for a long and picture heavy post.  We have a long flowering season here, beginning in late March with the forsythias.  In late April and early May, the azaleas came into full flower.  I love the white ones, and we have three white azalea shrubs on the property.  The rest are various shades of pink.  They are beautiful this year, pure white without any frost damage that we’ve seen in years past.

I need to prune them a bit, they are all a little unruly.  But I like the ...

September in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

The growing season is fairly long here in western North Carolina, and even more things are blooming now.  It is the last of summer, with some bloomers hanging on, and new ones coming out.  On the veranda, about half the pots still have something blooming. These yellow bidens just keep coming.

My pink geranium gave me this beautiful flower, and looks like it will do a few more before it is done.

I planted these dwarf asters last fall, and totally forgot that they only bloom in the late summer. They came from the bargain shelf at the big box ...

July in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

It seems like the dog days of summer came early this year, with heat and humidity in June that we usually do not see until early August.  It has made sitting outside a rare occasion when usually we spend some evenings sitting in the rockers or eating on the veranda table.  The additional limitation of waiting over two weeks for paint to dry has also curtailed outdoor enjoyment.  But the flooring is finally dry, and the plants are put back in place.  The rockers came out, and the table is ready for a meal.  The garden continues its show, starting ...

June in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

It has just been so frazzling hot here, with humidity at 68% early in the morning, it is hard to get out and get some weeding done.  I started early one morning, and had to come in after only an hour, in desperate need of a shower.   Even though the temperature was only 70°F, combined with that humidity was miserable.   The flowers seem to like it for the most part, and I shared the garden with a number of large honey bees that morning too.  Picture heavy post coming today.

Late May in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

The irises are done blooming now, they finished up while we were out of town.  But, can you stand just a couple more pics of them?  They were just so spectacular! I love these white ones.

And I was so impressed with these purple edged ones with the white centers.

On the mountainside behind the house, the wild blackberries are blooming. I never get any of the fruit as they are surrounded by poison ivy and the bears and squirrels usually get them first.

There is a flame azalea back in the woods too.
