Quilt Shop: A Stitch in Time Quilt Shoppe, Sequim, Washington from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! It's been warm where we are, although I can hardly complain. Yesterday was only the third day we've turned on our air-conditioner. I had big ideas about finishing the borders on the Ties & Tails quilt yesterday. I'd forgotten that I needed to make a trip into town to deliver some parcels to the post office. Mike had business in town too. We ended up getting lunch at a sit-down restaurant, which took forEVER!

When I got home, the kitties were purrturbed. They were ready for sewing. Smitty was tapping his little kitty paw ...

Time Traveling: Hurricane Ridge/Washington Lavender Farm from Cat Patches

It was a lazy morning for me yesterday. After breakfast, I spent some time on my slow-stitching. Sometimes, it makes me sleepy in the way reading a book can cause me to nod off. Eventually, I slid down on the couch for a morning nap. It was late by the time I woke up, and I briefly considered not doing my workout. When I get into arguments with myself about whether or not to exercise, I realize I'm on a slippery slope to quitting altogether, and so I forced myself to do it. It meant I didn't get ...

Time Traveling: Port Angeles/Salt Creek Tidepools from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday trying to achieve some level of normalcy. I'm happy to report that I'll be able to pick up where I left off when we were in our previous state of normal. Of course, "normal" is a relative term. There was a salad to make for last night's delightfully delicious dinner with Erik and Mae, then watering the thirsty flower pots, then...and most dreadfully...unpacking the RV. It's all done now. By late afternoon, I was able to sit and relax and take the first stitches ...

Dearest Donations from Cat Patches

It was a hot day yesterday. It reached 93°F here at the Three Cats Ranch. We're generally around ten degrees cooler than in the valley, and so you know it was even hotter in the lowlands. We're expecting a little cooler weather today and through the remainder of the week. The kitties spent most of their day cooling their tummy furs on the concrete in the shade of the house.

And this naughty little girl...we had trouble getting her in the house last night. Her curfew has been moved back to earlier in the afternoon now ...

Time Traveling: Leadfield Ghost Town from ... Cat Patches

Okay, so let's back up to our drive through Titus Canyon again. One of the things I most wanted to see along the way was the ghost town of Leadfield. There are ghost towns everywhere in Nevada. As I've mentioned previously (and over a period of years), there are many stories of some individual or some company going boom and bust here in the harsh environment of Death Valley. Leadfield is another example of that.

Arriving at a parking area, we could see the few remaining structures from the road. You can see mine tailings on the left ...

Time Traveling: Titus Canyon Road from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! I'm so happy to be sipping my coffee while we chat this morning. It's been a while since we've spent a morning together. Today I'll be writing the first of three time traveling posts, backing up a full week to when we took a drive through Titus Canyon. But first...let's back up to a day earlier when we made our way from Pahrump to Death Valley, a drive of about two hours. The colors of Death Valley begin to appear fairly quickly along this road. It's a pretty drive ...

Back in Civilization! from ... Cat Patches

Hey y'all! Did you miss me? I sure missed you guys. And, man, I can barely live without internet access these days. Maybe you've noticed I'm a very curious person. I can't tell you how many unanswered questions I have roaming around my skull right now. I'm always Googling this, that, or the other thing, to find out more about it. Not possible for the past week, and so you can only imagine how many questions I've asked without being able to access an answer. You can only imagine how many times Mike and ...

Bootleg Canyon Park from ... Cat Patches

From our window in the morning, we can watch the sun rise, just until it peeks over the tops of the mountains. From that point on, it becomes too bright to look, and we're required to close the curtain to avoid blasting out our retinas. For a while, though, it is very pretty. This morning, there was a sliver of a moon high in the sky.

Yesterday afternoon, we took a bike ride from the RV park to nearby Bootleg Canyon Park. What a lovely place! And what a nice resource for the people who live here! There were ...

Best Of 2021 from Cat Patches

Well, it's been another heckuva year, hasn't it? Thank goodness we're able to do something about the risk of COVID these days, and there's hope for a better year in 2022. There was a lot of sewing, and a lot of gardening, and a lot of traveling here at the Three Cats Ranch. I've participated in this "Best of" party for the past several years, and it's good to look back and see the fun we've had and all that we've accomplished.

In choosing these posts to re-share, I went through the ...

Time Traveling: Black Bear Pass from Cat Patches

It's Sunday afternoon as I'm writing this post. We did some riding here in Silverton this afternoon, but I want to bring you up-to-date on the time we were offline before catching up here to the present day. I'll tell you about today's ride in tomorrow's post. For now, let's just travel back to Friday afternoon. We were still working around the road closure, and so we didn't leave the camper until just before the road opened at noon. They knocked off early on Friday, and so we only had to keep ourselves ...
