Some Blocks and a Finish from ... Cat Patches

Yesterday turned into a desperately needed sewing day. The past couple of weeks have been very busy, and so I was really wanting just to do some simple, mindless sewing. I don't know if it was mindless, but mindless enough for me to concentrate on my current audio book.

My first task was to finish off December's block for A Year of Hearts. I neglected to take a picture with my point and shoot, and so you'll have to be content with this crappy picture from my iPhone.

I did manage to remember to get a picture ...

Writing Fast from ... Cat Patches

Did anyone notice that I forgot to tell you about either the quilt shop or the quilt show yesterday? I didn't notice it until much, much later in the day. Mind like a steel trap, I tell ya'. So, yeah. I still owe you two posts, but it's going to have to wait for a bit. This morning I'm heading out early for an appointment with my dermatologist. I have to go in every nine months for a skin check. Yes. Wear your sunscreen. Then tomorrow I'm getting my eyes examined. I imagine by Friday I ...

Needle Down from ... Cat Patches

We picked up another 40 lbs. of Romas from our farmers yesterday.

By the time we got home, it was already 11:00 a.m. We had a grilled marinated vegetable sandwich for dinner last night, and I still needed to get the vegetables into the marinade...then there was lunch...and when everything was said and done, I didn't want to start on the tomatoes so late in the day. To be honest, I just wasn't mentally prepared for another whole day of tomatoes. Instead, I made it a sewing day...unplanned...and so it felt downright ...

Teal Reveal from Cat Patches

Well, I'm so excited to tell you that my partner Lana has her mini quilt now, and so I can show it to you. Lana shared that she was a cat lover, and so I knew just what to do. I used one of Robin Kingsley's designs from Bird Brain Designs. This is from her cat lover pattern, and there are three designs included. I chose this one for Lana.

The teal fabric in the inner border was the one I received with my swap "kit." We were supposed to use our teal fabric somewhere on the front ...

Labor Day Labors from ... Cat Patches

It took two days, but I worked my way through all of the 60 lbs. of tomatoes I had on hand. Yesterday's yield was 5 quarts of pasta sauce and 5 pints of tomato salsa.

From 60 lbs. of tomatoes, my yield was a total of 14 quarts of pasta sauce and 8 pints of salsa. The goal was 20 quarts and 12 pints, and so I'm still working on scoring more tomatoes. In the meantime, I'm hoping to work with the plums tomorrow. Time will tell. I haven't looked at the tree for a couple ...

Terrific Tomatoes from Cat Patches

It's the day I've been waiting for since we used our last jar of salsa. It's the first day of tomato canning. In previous years, I've ordered 40 lbs. of Romas from our farmers. This year, I'm going for broke with 60 lbs. We picked them up yesterday. Just look at these beauties.

They stretch on for miles!

So, I'd already told myself I wouldn't start on them until today. We had to get some things from the grocery store, and I still had carrots I wanted to finish up before starting on ...

A Jarring Experience from ... Cat Patches

Today is the day I've waited for all season...picking up 60 lbs. of tomatoes from our farmers. I really know how to have a good time, don't I? But, honestly, we ran out of salsa months ago, and we're only barely surviving at this point. The tomatoes can't come soon enough.

So with the phrase "tomato tonnage tomorrow" in my head, I was anxious to get started on the produce still cluttering the refrigerator and all other horizontal surfaces of the house to-wit: apples, zucchini, tomatoes from our own plants and...bonus produce...tomatillos. There ...

Franticanning from ... Cat Patches

Yes, that's another new word to add to your vocabulary. Franticanning: It's when the produce is coming at you so fast, you're afraid you can't keep up. One bucket of apples down...one to go. Yesterday's yield was another 6 pints of applesauce, and 7-1/2 half pints of Maple Bourbon Apple Butter.

The maple bourbon apple butter tastes good. It's kind of like super thick applesauce. It might have needed more time to cook to get it to a darker color, but I was running out of time, and I needed to pick ...

My New York Beauty Finish from On The Go Quilting

I’m so happy today.  My New York Beauty mini-quilt is finished and ready to go.   Now I just have to wait for the go ahead from the Swap Host.  For those who have never done a swap online, they are usually coordinated by one person.  I’m going to explain, to the best of my knowledge, how an Instagram swap is handled.  For the Swap Masters out there, please forgive me if I leave something out.  I’m just giving a general idea of the proces here.

This person gathers the names of those who have requested participation and ...

Swaps and Such from On The Go Quilting

What’s keeping me so busy I can’t make time to write a blog post?  Really, nothing that doesn’t keep everyone busy.  I’m working my five days a week, all day which is so different from working 3-4 days a week, 3 hours a day.  I never realized how much free time I had then.

That doesn’t mean I’m sorry we changed positions and locations.  It’s always fun to go to a new location; that’s part of the reason why DH and I decided in the first place that we would travel.  So ...
