Oh Scrap! : Yellow from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even with all the other quilts I am working on, I still try and keep up with my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.  It is a good way for me to keep a small focus on my scraps.  We don't want them building up any more than they already are!

August is the color yellow.   So I made one heart block and one ombre color block.  I don't have a lot of yellow scraps so it was a bit of a challenge to find all these different shades of the color.

I also made 16 switchplate blocks.  Yellow is ...

Oh Scrap! : Switchplates from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This is the last Sunday in July and I was able to get out my scraps and sew up some of my RSC blocks.  The color for July is red and I don't need any more color or heart blocks.

But I did make twenty more of my switchplate blocks in red.  I already made about 30 so now I have a nice big stack of them.

I was going to start putting them up on a design wall but I noticed I don't have a single yellow block!  Maybe I will get lucky and Angela will make ...

Oh Scrap! : Orange from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I know, orange was the RSC color for May but I really did finish all of these before the end of the month.  I just didn't get a chance to write about them.

I finished my orange heart block and the color block for May.

I also sewed up 17 more switchplate blocks.  It takes a long time to cut these out because I am trying not to make any duplicates.

I really need to get this one up on a design wall so I can see how many more I need.

The good news is I have plenty ...

Oh Scrap! : Purple from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week I spent most of my time digging through my purple scrap bin.

I found a couple purple striped fabric strips that I turned into some 16 patch blocks.

I added them to the rest of the completed blocks on my design wall.  I think I have reached the halfway point on these blocks.  I am in no hurry to finish these - I just make blocks as I find fabric in my scrap bins.  Eventually it will just become one of my Compassion quilts.

I also cut and sewed up a bunch of switchplate blocks.  I added those to ...

Oh Scrap! : A Bit of Spring Cleaning from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finished out March dealing with a few piles stacked around my sewing room.

I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment.

First, I finished sewing together the last of the green switchplate pieces I had sitting next to my sewing machine.  It looks like now I need to get out my purple scraps and start cutting. The cycle never ends!

I also made one sad 16 patch block for one of my donation quilt projects.  I sew up these whenever I come across a 2.5" strip that is long enough to complete a block.

My greatest accomplishment this week ...

Oh Scrap! : Green from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I really put the pedal to the metal this week and almost got caught up on all my RSC blocks.

I cut and sewed two green hearts.  This brings my total blocks up to five.

While I was sorting and gutting green scraps, I also cut enough squares to make two of these blocks.
I think I have a total of five of these blocks completed too.

I didn't forget about my switch plate blocks - I found eight more green prints I haven't used yet and sewed them up.  I think I have a few more cut and ...

Oh Scrap! : Some Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I actually feel like I made some progress on the scrap front this week.

I finished up my big 18" heart block in pink so that I could finish my second heart quilt.

I also dug through my pink scraps to see if I could make any more stitchplate blocks for my RSC quilt.

I am trying not to repeat any prints.  Here are all the pink ones I have finished to date.  My pink scrap bin is looking pretty sad.  I might need to replenish it with some fresh fabric from my stash.

Having made all those rail fence ...

Oh Scrap! : Old and New Projects from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I was able to actually dig through my scrap bins this week!

I pulled some more blue scraps and made more of my switchplate blocks.

These are made with a total of five 1.5" x 3.5" strips. Super easy to make and I think they will be really fun to play with.

I now have 42 blue blocks to play with.  I just need to make a few hundred more in other colors.

I also cut a bunch of 3.5" squares from my low volume scraps.  I have a new project in mind and I am ready ...

Oh Scrap! : Switchplates from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Most of this week was spent sewing Compassion Quilt blocks together.  But I did remember that I still have my Switchplate blocks to sew for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.

I dug deep into the mess I call a sewing room and found all the blocks I have made so far.  I pulled out all of the blue ones (I am trying not to duplicate fabrics) so I could start cutting some blue scraps.  I am hoping to get a nice stack ready to sew Sunday evening.

I might even cut a few more squares so I can make ...

Oh Scrap! : Switchplates from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week there was a lot of activity in my sewing room.  I have been busy sewing blocks into quilt tops, sewing up scraps into placemats and cutting fabrics for a few of my scrappy projects.

This included a bunch of pieces for my switchplate quilt.

I cut up a bunch of 3.5" x 1.5" strips to make these blocks that are green with yellow centers.  I have a few more various colors all sitting next to my sewing machine so I can chain piece them when I have the time.

I think these are all the blocks ...

Oh Scrap! : Purple Switch Plates from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am feeling like I am catching up a bit.  I still haven't even looked at my orange scraps for August but I am slowly cleaning up the loose ends from so many projects.

Before I put my purple scrap bin away (for RSC July), I cut a bunch of sets for my little switchplate blocks.  There are purple "outies" with blue "innies" and red "outies" with purple "innies".  I haven't had a chance to get these back up on a design wall in quite a few months.  They finish at 3 x 5" so I will need ...

Oh Scrap! : Catching up with the Blues from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We have been having some very warm days so it has been a good time to stay in and sew.

It has been nice to get caught up on a few projects.

I have finished sewing together all of the Covered in Love blocks. That was my biggest accomplishment for the week. Now I just need to get them on the longarm and quilt them.

A few more blue Switchplate blocks were sewn.  These are made with five 1.5" x 3.5" strips.

I also finished up my blue Chaser blocks for June.

Looks like I need 14 more ...

Oh Scrap! : Finally Working on Blue Scraps from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week I was finally able to get out my blue scrap bin and start sorting appropriate bits for my June RSC blocks. Soon I had some cut pieces sitting next to my machine so sew as I worked on other projects.

So that means I have some blue Switchplate blocks ready to share.  I had already cut the green centers in May

Here are the seventeen I finished.  I think I need a total of 33 of each color so I still have some cutting to do.

I haven't decided how I am going to lay these blocks ...
