Lakeside Star: a crimson version from Carried Away Quilting

In February I introduced you to my new fat quarter pattern, Lakeside Star. This bold, dynamic quilt makes a statement with thoughtful color and print placement. My original quilt showcased a blue, butterscotch and taupe color combination. I recently completed another Lakeside Star top featuring crimson, brown and taupe prints. I’m doing my final pressing and then she’ll be off to the quilter!

This crimson version of Lakeside Star could be considered a winter or Christmas quilt, as some of the prints have a subtle seasonal motif.  But I think the overall effect is such that the quilt ...

A fat quarter quilt top finish from Carried Away Quilting

This week I finished a special quilt top, one made out of beautiful fat quarters I have gathered over the past year. It’s a mix of dusty, denim blues and soft pinky-reds. This quilt will be gifted to a lovely young lady. I’ve sent it off to the quilter to be finished, and I can’t wait for it to return!

The pattern is called Wayne & Gordie from the book Miss Rosie’s Farmhouse Favorites by Carrie Nelson. The quilt finished at 74” x 81” and was a snap to make with Carrie’s strip piecing method. For ...

A "lake" pillow for my Lakeside Star quilt from Carried Away Quilting

Do you ever catch yourself smiling, really smiling, when no one else is around? I’m a pretty happy person, so I think I’m often smiling on the inside, but I don’t think my face makes a smile too often when I’m all alone. It’s a bit like talking to yourself.  When you catch yourself doing it, you stop and think . . . and maybe giggle!

Well, I caught myself “smiling out loud” when this pillow arrived from Jennifer at Farm Fresh Stitches. I ordered this pillow to go with my Lakeside Star quilt, and it’s exactly ...

New pattern: Lakeside Star, a fat quarter quilt from Carried Away Quilting

Last fall I wrote about how my new surroundings were inspiring my quilting decisions. We moved to a new home on an intimate lake encircled by peeling birch trees and majestic oaks, with native reeds along the shoreline, a lawn dotted with tiny acorns, and birds of every kind and color . . . it was both simple and wonderful.

The indigo water and the reflection of the butterscotch-colored oak leaves on the lake’s surface really spoke to me. I wanted to create a quilt that reflected the beauty of those colors and also honored the simple but beautiful views. From that ...

A simple patchwork quilt from Carried Away Quilting

Some of the best quilts are simple patchwork quilts, wouldn’t you agree? Last fall I purchased a half yard bundle of the Oxford collection by Sweetwater for Moda. My bundle included the blues and greens from the collection, in both prints and wovens. I pondered a few different ideas and looked through all of my patterns and books, but in the end, I couldn’t get past how pretty the fabrics looked just lying next to each other. And so it was decided . . . a really big, easy peasy patchwork quilt.

There is so much that I love about this ...

A Tumbler quilt for my sewing room from Carried Away Quilting

A few weeks ago I told you about a new project I was starting, a Tumbler quilt. I’m pleased to share the final result with you, a sweet little quilt for my sewing room. She’s a super cute complement to the Lone Star quilt I shared with you last spring.

While the Lone Star quilt hangs above my cutting table (a DIY project made by my husband and me), the new Tumbler quilt is displayed in an opposite corner of the room where I can see her from my sewing machine. I’ve used an old yard stick ...

Fancy Little Mug Rugs from Solid Stars from Amy Made That

Hello, Friends!
I have a fun little gift project to share today!

I made three little mug rugs, using
some 6 1/2" star blocks that I made
a short long time ago.

{Ahem...time flies.}

You can read more about the Moda Sweetwater solid bundle
of fabrics that I used, in this post.

I had such fun stitching up these solid blocks!
I used one of them on the back of a little table runner,

Hmmm...solid blocks do tend to show "mistakes",
don't they?
I'm pretty sure I've ...

Sewing blue from Carried Away Quilting

If someone were to ask me my favorite color, my immediate answer would be blue. It’s the same answer I would have given as a young girl, and it still feels true today. Oddly enough, I don’t typically decorate my home with blue accessories. Also, very few of the quilts I’ve made in recent years feature the color blue.

I’m no expert in color theory. I just know what I like and how colors make me feel. I’m sure I’ve shied away from blue because it is a cool color, and I like to ...

The Centerpiece Tablemat: a pattern by Sweet Treasures Quilts from Carried Away Quilting

I’m really excited to share today’s project, the Centerpiece Tablemat!  This terrific pattern was designed by Terri Staats, owner of Sweet Treasures Quilts. Simply select a pretty focal fabric and coordinating 1 1/2” strips and you can whip together a 21” octagon shaped tablemat in no time!

Maybe you have purchased some of those cute Moda Honeybun rolls of 1 1/2” fabric strips, but you haven’t used them yet. This would be a great project for a Honeybun. Or you could create your own 1 1/2” strips from your stash.  That’s what I ...
