Final Preparations from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're on whatever counts as the opposite of the home stretch. Home stretch usually means the time before reaching the end. How does one turn that around and make it a stretch toward the beginning? Just now I checked in with The Google. The Google tells me I can substitute "opening chapter." Okay, so opening chapter it is. We're not quite to the first page, though. Think of this as the dedication.

We've had to reroute our trip already. As it turns out, it's going to snow like mad at the Siskiyou ...

Once and Future Cooking from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I have a few things to tell you, and then I'm back into spasmodic blogging at least until we get down the road some. We've been watching the weather very carefully. We had what we like to refer to as a "false spring" here in the Pacific Northwest. We had three lovely days of sunshine and warmth, but we're promised the return of cold and wet this week. It's still dry so far, but we could see more freezing temperatures before we leave. It makes it hard to prepare because we can ...

Some Finishes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a day for finishing yesterday. The only thing that wasn't finished was the day's Tiny Heart. The instructions for stitching the rest of this one will be posted today.

When that was finished, I stitched and stitched and stitched until I had the "Gather" block finished.

That was Block 11 for the Joyful Journey quilt. Here are the 11 blocks I have for this quilt so far. Just one to go before I can sew it into a quilt top. As I'm writing this, I'm thinking I should figure out ...

Nearing a Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's still dark outside as I write this, and so I can't tell what the weather is going to be like today. The forecast calls for rain, but the weatherman continues to insist that we'll get three warmer drier days starting tomorrow. Fingers crossed because I really want to get outside and do some weeding.

After writing yesterday's post, I stitched the Tiny Heart for Day 20 of our stitch-along. This one has chain stitch, straight stitch, and cross stitch.

The bird feeders were empty and so I went outside with the ...

Ready for Binding from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a happy day because I finished quilting the Dot-to-Dot panel. The quilt-along was a very worthwhile effort, and I learned a lot. It gave me a new way to think about quilting designs. Also, it was a lot of practice, and that is never very much fun. Panels are a great way to practice and learn. I've done several for the exclusive purpose of practicing. You might remember the Dream Big quilts.

This one was finished on the road.

Those started out being fun too. Eventually, it becomes a chore trying to think ...

Time Flies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy President's Day. It's another wet morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. We've been promised some drier, warmer weather later in the week. I sure hope so. It would be good to get out and pull some weeds before we take off on our trip.

Yesterday morning, I spent quite some time trying to generate an image I could use for Project Quilting's fourth challenge: "Hourglass." We could go off in any direction with this, but we were required to use the hourglass shape in our quilt. I had an ...

Wrist Wresting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I suppose "wrest" is an improper use of the word, but you know me. There's no sense in passing up a good opportunity for wordplay. Life is short. But I did take the day off from quilting yesterday. My wrist was bothering me just a little, and I knew quilting would make it worse. Instead, I took my cues from Smitty. He always gives me good advice.

We had grocery shopping to do. Before heading out, I stitched the day's Tiny Heart. This one has a back stitched border, and then it was filled ...

A Little Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a grocery shopping day today, and so the morning isn't as good as it could be. On the other hand, I have some overnight oatmeal downstairs, awaiting my final touches of cinnamon, golden raisins, and a little bit of brown sugar. And, see? When you get old, oatmeal is cause for celebration! Young people, you have a lot to look forward to. Follow me for more glimpses into the future.

So let's see what was happening here at the Three Cats Ranch yesterday. We thought we might wake up to some snow ...

A Quilty Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was all quilting, all the time yesterday. Compared to my previous day of sloth, yesterday was fairly productive.

February is International Embroidery Month, and so each day of February has started with the day's Tiny Heart. Yesterday's was only partially completed. The outer border will be stitched later. I happen to know it's the dreaded bullion stitch, and so it's just as well we put it off as long as possible. At least that way I'll be able to finish all the hearts before the bullion stitch has me wanting ...

A Day of Sloth from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As you might guess, it was a slow day here yesterday. When I left you, I was flying out the door for my hair appointment. When I got home, I was positively useless. And how could it be otherwise when you have cats like these?

Sadie practically held me down all afternoon. The only thing I could accomplish was slow stitching...emphasis on the "slow" part.

I stitched the day's Tiny Heart.

And then I filled in what was left in my hoop of the Joyful Journey.

When I was free to move about the ...
