Snowy Sunday from From the Strawberry Patch...

To no one's surprise we awakened to snow on Sunday morning, right on schedule and as forecast! A few hearty souls braved the elements to attend worship; all told, we ended up with about 4 inches before it turned over to sleet. Today we have crusty, icy snow remaining, the roads and driveway are still a mess. We've been warm and dry at home, I finished a book yesterday (will report on this month's

Fun with Snow Days from From My Carolina Home

Waking up on Sunday to a winter wonderland, the entire scene had a blue cast to it with heavy overcast skies in the weak dawn light. The snow was still falling as I took some photos, and it continued falling on and off all day. Big fat flakes alternated with tiny ones. It was freezing cold, and we hunkered down with the fireplace going and watched football games all day. Juncos were on the ground looking for anything falling out of the bird feeder, so My Sweet Babboo scattered some seed on the snow for them. They devoured the offering ...

Snowed in! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- today is going to be just about snow! We had a massive snowstorm yesterday and went from Winter watch to Heavy snowfall to Blizzard warnings on the weather app. Oh my -- whatever did we do before we had the weather app? OH -- we looked out the window or went outside to check the conditions!

I was optimistic when I woke up and saw the snow, but after about one hour, I realized that the snow was coming down hard and fast, and there was NO way we were going to hit the roads. Heck -- it took hours and hours ...

Battening Down from From the Strawberry Patch...

This is what happens when snow is predicted in the south; naturally there's the insanity that occurs as everyone runs for bread and milk at the grocery stores but, then, the conversation turns to anticipated snowfall amounts and, ultimately, how long folks expect to be stranded. I'm not too worried: we have firewood enough to last and I have an adequate supply of books and stitching projects

After the STORM..... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

There were 3 road blocks...

3 big maple trees came down

after the big snow storm...

We went home to get the power saw

so the Cowboy could clear a path...

We had hungry cows waiting for hay.

Feeding Cattle in the Western Oregon Snow.... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I haven't made it out to the Thread Shed

to get any stitching done...

We have been making our way through

all of this snow to get the cattle fed:

Frosty mornings on an open tractor.....brrrr

The Cowboy loads up the 1200 lb. hay bale

and I drive the pickup...

I drive while the Cowboy flakes the hay

off the back of the flat bed...

We have cattle at 5 different locations

so we will repeat this feeding process...

The cattle will move their way up this line of hay

munching all the way...

Just across the river ...

Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News from Where Art & Life Meet

Seriously, is this one of the most hilarious things ever? Merlin is SO clever! So Merlin, in addition to all of his other amusing and endearing characteristics, also plays fetch. He may be small, but he’s fierce! In the morning, but occasionally in the evening as well, he will bring me his “cork,” which is… Continue reading Merlin Plays Fetch & Other Breaking News

This, That, and Three Other Things... from From the Strawberry Patch...

While we were gone away this Moth Orchid which has lived as a foliage-only plant in our bathroom for the past few years sent up a flower stalk! I was shocked and amazed. Maybe we need to leave home more often! I don't do anything special except water it every week; once a month I sprinkle a few crystals of orchid food into the watering solution but that's it. I had NO  very little hope of it ever

A Snowy New York City & Aging from Where Art & Life Meet

I awoke this morning thinking I would get an early start by going out into the snowy streets to take some video footage. But then I looked at the weather and it said with the wind chill it felt more like about 20 degrees and I thought better of it. So I practiced my French,… Continue reading A Snowy New York City & Aging

Snow, Virtual Quilting and Football!! from From My Carolina Home

Two fun things in one weekend, we got a couple of inches of snow on Friday, just in time to hunker down for Wild Card Weekend. Before the snow came, a new visitor came to sample the handouts. Apparently, Oliver has a buddy. The second little guy has been here before, but not as consistently as Oliver. I can only tell them apart by where they choose to eat their treats. I know it isn’t Jack, as he always goes to the other side of the house to munch down his tidbit.

The new, yet unnamed, furry friend took ...

Christmas Memories and Traditions from From My Carolina Home

If you live in an area that gets snow, do you remember your first white Christmas? I do. I was six years old living in Greensboro, when my parents decided to stay with some friends over Christmas. They didn’t live far, but apparently a blizzard was on the way, and they wanted to have us all together on Christmas day. So we went to spend the night on Christmas eve with them. Their home was a split level house, typical of North Carolina homes of the era, with a circular staircase hidden behind a closet door on the second ...

it's beginning to look a lot like . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

By this point in the year, I'm usually running around like a chicken with my head cut off ... with no relief in sight!  But if there's been *any* silver lining from covid, then I would have to say it's the relief of a lot of the hustle and bustle that usually hits this time of year. Our social commitments, which typically fill our December calendar (and wear me out), have been cut to a fraction of what they normally are. I'm thankful. Am I alone in my thinking on this?

We did enjoy a healthy, happy ...

This crib sized quilt was made using the first two blocks in the SHOP HOP quilt pattern, that will be used as this year's spring quilt along.

Each block represents a SHOP, set in a wintery scene.

February in the Garden from From My Carolina Home

In the garden this month, there has been an interesting contrast of dull days and bright color, sunny mornings and then snow followed by days of rain.  Just the day before our QOV sew day, it snowed.  As I watched the snow fall, it seemed that every bird in the neighborhood needed a bit of extra fuel to deal with the cold.

White Wednesday from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

We had another little winter storm blow through on Tuesday night: And although it was 24°, I bundled up just after 6 and headed out to soak in a little of the crisp air as Wednesday dawned: It was absolutely still and serene - a beautiful way to begin the day Skeet is always game for an early morning adventure                         And the horses were slowly ambling in from the

productivity . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's been a productive week and I've gotten in some quality time towards my crafts (and I use that word in the highest sense of its definition) almost every day, thanks to some lunch time stitching.  In the class I'm taking we started to put together our first block, which I was able to finish:
It's a small class this go around, which is nice ... everyone gets the one-on-one if they need it. I'm learning some new things, too, which is awesome!

I decided to go ahead and make a fabric spreadsheet, to help me ...
