Free At Last! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm happy to announce that we are free to move about the city...for now, at least. It's been an unusual couple of weeks of weather. Snow isn't unusual in these parts. Ice isn't unusual either, unfortunately. But to get hit boom, boom, boom with snow, ice, and more ice was quite unusual. Fortunately, our temperatures have warmed into the 40s and 50s range, and it has been raining. The ice and snow can't last long under those conditions.

Sadie spent her morning yesterday conducting tests of the new French Roses ...

Thankfully Thawing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've been in the national news spotlight with our bad weather. Sadly we've been in the news for weather-related fatalities. And I won't go into specifics...it's kind of a bummer...but it's always strange to see your home mentioned on national news with so much going on in the rest of the country/world. It was still too dark to see outside when I wrote yesterday's post. Daylight revealed a frozen world.

It was very slick outside, and so I took these pictures through our living room window. Our ...

Above Freezing! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It appears things are looking up here at the Three Cats Ranch. Last night, I woke up too warm for the first time in at least a week. When we got up this morning, our temperature was at 33°F...above freezing, baby! It's still dark out, and so I can't see how much ice accumulation we have. When we went to bed last night, it was just a thin candy coating of the stuff. We're hopeful we didn't get any significant accumulation overnight.

It started out a pretty day yesterday, but ...

A Little Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was nice to see the sunshine yesterday, even if it was bitterly cold. It has been so dark the past few days.

Looking out the window this morning, the sun is just now coming up. It's hard to tell what the day holds. Our weather people have been breathlessly forecasting freezing rain, high winds, and massive power outages. The storm is coming from the south, and our county will be the first to get hit in the Portland metropolitan area. Sigh. This was the day our carpet was to be installed. It has been ...

Quilt Reveal: Haven of Harmony from High Road Quilter

I made my first quilt of the year for the first Project Quilting challenge. Project Quilting is a challenge that was started years ago by Kim Lapacek of Persimmon Dreams. It is inspired by Project Runway challenges.

Every other week for the first three months of the year, Kim's friend, Tricia Franklin, posts a theme. Quilters then make quilts based on this theme. The quilt cannot be started before the challenge is posted, and must be finished by the deadline, which is only one week later.

Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character ...

Quilt Reveal: Scrappy Cat Collage Mini Quilt from High Road Quilter

I am continuing to make progress on each of my quilts fifteen minutes a day. It is a lot of fun to pull out the old projects and make some progress on them, but it is hard to put them away when the fifteen minutes is over. I've been really good about staying organized and putting the projects back to make room for the next projects. I think they will be easier to bring them back out again in 2024 to get them finished off.

Here's a quilt I finished.

This quilt was started in September 2019. I ...

2023: The Year in Review from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The day has come to say good-bye to 2023, and ready ourselves for what is to come in 2024. It's only turning a page on a calendar, but somehow New Year's Day seems filled with anticipation. We're looking forward to heading out on a trip in just a few weeks, and new carpeting in just two weeks. So there are some immediate changes happening here that make the new year seem kind of exciting...as exciting as it can be when you're anticipating becoming a septuagenarian in just a few months.

It ...

Holiday Catch-up from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! It's been a while since we've chatted. Yesterday's post was my "Best of," and so we haven't had a chance to catch up on current events for a while. You're probably going to want to fill your coffee cup for this because I have lots to show you. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. We've just about run the bases on 2023. I'm ready for a new year, aren't you? So, let's have at it. What's been going on here at the Three Cats Ranch ...

Thirty-two in '23 from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate. Our family usually does our biggest part of Christmas on Christmas Eve. When the kids were younger, we opened gifts under the tree...gifts from one another. And when they still believed, Santa brought more stuff on Christmas morning. With our youngest approaching his 40th birthday next spring, we no longer exchange gifts, but we still get together with a nice meal on Christmas Eve. Erik and Mae are cooking tonight. I'm bringing dessert.

Backing up to yesterday, it was a productive day...surprisingly so. I finished ...

Saved by Saturday from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're all going to survive yet another Christmas season, I think. The past week was busy with me leaving the house for something every day last week. It was rather poor planning on my part, but it's over now. Wild horses couldn't drag me from my home today. The kids are making Christmas dinner tomorrow night, and I'm looking forward to that. My contribution will be a chocolate chip bread pudding, but that will be for tomorrow's to-do's. I'm looking forward to a relaxing day at home. I'm ...

Undercover Cats from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. You might think it's a cold morning here, but I think we're actually in the high 40's. Not too bad. It's apparently too cold for cats however. I shared the couch and the quilt with these two this morning.

It looks as if Smitty is considering taking over Sadie's spot there. She has the best quilt cover.

Backing up to yesterday morning...when I finished my post yesterday, I went right to work making the final reservations for our trip. It took up a good part of the morning, and I ...
