Sewing with My Baby Lock Victory ~ Skirt from Tea Rose Home

As I mentioned in my previous post, all my projects in 2024 were quilts. After receiving the Babylock Victory serger, my desire to sew more garments increased by 100%! I have many Japanese sewing books and American patterns I bought from Joann's. I have many apparel fabrics and knits for future projects. I have no shortages there. All I need is to just start. I guess the hardest part for me is deciding the perfect match of sewing pattern and fabric. Sometimes this process takes months and years for me, because I see many possibilities with the fabric piece ...

McCall's 8044 Skirt with Linen from Tea Rose Home

Hello! How have you all been?? As I mentioned in the last post, I had a pretty busy summer and I didn't sew much... I just wanted to spend more time with my children. They are growing up too fast, but they seem to not mind that at all. I was having a hard time catching up with the speed. Now that my middle son has left home and my youngest has gone back to school, I am getting my sewing mojo back! There were a few things I wanted to sew, but I decided to try the McCall ...

A New Maxi Mave Skirt from Dizzy Quilts

When True Bias released their latest pattern - the Mave Skirt - I didn't wait for very long before getting it. I love maxi skirts in the Summer and I had the perfect fabric in my stash, a beautiful viscose from Blackbird Fabrics.

It was a little bit chilly when I took the pictures so I'm wearing a sweater with my new skirt, but when the temperature rises a little bit, I plan to wear this with a tee shirt or tank top. A white top would look really nice with this skirt I think - a white to match the ...

The Monica Pleated Skirt from Dizzy Quilts

I don't wear dresses and skirts very much - I've just always been a pants kind of person. And I can't remember what prompted me to buy the Monica skirt pattern (5 out of 4 Patterns) - I probably saw someone on Instagram wearing one and got intrigued.

The skirt pictured on the cover of the pattern is the maxi version and it is so beautiful, I decided right then and there to buy it. I don't really wear maxi skirts in the winter months - just too impractical with the snow and the slush everywhere but I thought ...

Cotton + Steel Rayon Separates from Tea Rose Home

I bought this beautiful Rayon Challis "In Bloom" by Cotton + Steel a while back. this Rayon is the perfect weight and very smooth to the touch. It is a little different choice of fabric than my usual pick from solid or floral, but when I saw it I immediately fell in love with the design. After going back and forth between sewing a dress or separates, I decided to go with separates! For the pattern, I used Simplicity 8910 dress pattern from my previous post for the top but extended the length and made a blouse. For the skirt, I ...

Olive + Navy Top with Flare Skirt from Tea Rose Home

I never use broadcloth to sew clothes because I don't think the fabric drapes nicely and could make the clothing look cheap. Then, when I saw the combination of this olive and navy fabric, I immediately had an image of a finished top in my head and I couldn't resist. I broke my own rule. I used a pattern from a Japanese sewing book created by Yukari Nakano. The book contains 28 pieces of simple, sophisticated and well designed clothing; I pretty much want to make all of them. Also, what is nice about her book is that ...

Red Linen Skirt from Tea Rose Home

I have been wanting a red skirt to wear for a while and I remembered that I bought some red linen fabric a long time ago. Sure enough, I found this fabric in my fabric closet, yay! One thing I have loved ever since I started my own "sew my stash challenge", is that I am more mindful of what I already have and am thinking creatively. I love clothing made out of linen, but 100% linen gets wrinkled very easily, so I usually buy linen blend fabric for easier care and it's nice drape.

I only had just ...

Video: How to Make a No-Sew Tutu out of Tulle and Elastic from Craftcore

In this video, I’ll show you how I made this no sew tulle tutu skirt.  I used it as a photo prop in my daughter’s one month milestone photos, but you can make this in any size or length by adjusting the calculated measurements.  This tutu is perfect for photos or dress up play.

This project comes together fast with just a few items: scissors, elastic, tulle, and either a single safety pin OR thread.  It’s a no sew project if you are comfortable using a safety pin as the waistband closure. This is fine if you ...
