QuiltCon 2019 lecture! from Flying Parrot Quilts

I’m very excited to be giving a lecture at QuiltCon in Nashville next year! It’s titled “Traditional Block, Modern Quilt: Designing with Negative Space” and will be all about giving you tools to start designing your own modern quilts. I hope you’ll join me!

Description: One of the hallmarks of modern quilting is the use of extensive negative space, but how do you arrange your negative space to make a cohesive quilt design? In this lecture, we will explore different ways to approach designing a quilt with negative space. We’ll walk through the design process step ...

Flying Parrot Quilts at QuiltCon from Flying Parrot Quilts

I’m missing QuiltCon this year, but my quilts won’t be! While I didn’t have anything to enter in the judged show this year, I still have several quilts on display.

Molecular Test, above, will be in the Quilt of the Month display.

Intown Quilters, my LQS in Atlanta, is making the trek out to California and will have my complete line of patterns in booth #624, along with a few of my smaller quilts.

And finally, Zigzag Fade should be in the Modern Quilts Unlimited booth (#105)!

End of the Year Updates and News for 2018 from The Ardent Thread

There was a time when I could semi-hibernate through December and rest up over the winter to prepare for spring shows and events. THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED THIS YEAR. We’re pretty much working full throttle this month, and January looks like more of the same, which is a good thing. Here’s what we have going on. Click on the bold headlines below for more information.

An Anniversary, an Open House, and a Sashiko Subscription from The Ardent Thread

Wow. Ten years. When I started selling online in 2005 I had my own website and an eBay store. Both are gone now, I closed them after starting my Etsy shop. There have been a lot of changes to Etsy–they went corporate awhile back–but some changes have been helpful and we’ve seen my tiny business grow to something exciting and much bigger.

Our Open House will be on Saturday, December 9 in Alameda, CA. Details are on our Facebook Events page and Eventbrite. No need to print a ticket, just show up. All the inventory we can ...

Show Update from Simply Put Plus

I'm not sure how many of you know that when I go do my shows I do them alone.  This isn't such a big task when its a small local quilt show but those long distance, week long shows really kick my a**.  Not only physically but mentally.  They become a stark reminder of the loss of my husband and how my life now is one of solitude.  I mention all of this now because back in June I  booked Houston Market and Festival.  I did so with a lot of trepidation.  In our industry this is THE ...

Busy Saturday! from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

Saturday was the companion class for the Deb Tucker ruler BOM. This month we got the Tucker Trimmer and our class was Solitaire. My partner in crime, Tina, had all of her blocks made before class and came to assemble her quilt. I got 2 blocks made and she got the center of her quilt assembled. The top was done by the end of the night! I, on the other hand, went with these people .... me, my
