Celebration At Last! from Ravelly1

Bells are going off!
Confetti is floating in the air!
Hooray!!!! Post 1600 is finely here!!!!
I'm doing a happy dance right now and Mr. Cowboy is laughing his cowboy hat off watching me.
If you have stuck with me this long, you have definitely gone on a wild journey. Thanks for hanging around.
Now, let me give you an update on my venture into making quilts for the Veterans at my Senior Community Center. I have eight quilt tops made, four are already quilted so I've been on my knees getting the others sandwiched and ready to ...

Christmas Card Show and Tell... from Home Designs by Amanda

Yesterday, I was trying to work on a project to share here. I even finished a card... but it had a couple issues. The main two are the sentiment being a little hard to read, and my adhesive showing up behind the tracing paper.  I should have used glue dots... then it probably wouldn't have been seen! There are a couple other things I would probably do different, but it was a

Stitch Gathering 2017 from Charm About You

On Sunday I was in Edinburgh for the Stitch Gathering retreat organised by Jo Avery of myBearpaw. I went to teach my hand pieced Whatever the Weather mini quilt pattern (which will be available to buy soon!). It was a brilliant day spent with wonderful people and it all went by in a flash, as these things tend to do. The loveliest part was getting to meet up with quilty friends, make new ones and spend time with people I have only ever known online. It's amazing how well you click with people on t'internet (pun intended) and ...

SHOW-N-TELL FOR INSPIRATION from ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Recently while at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I saw some items that inspired me.  Vickie S. made this beautiful table runner.
This is a close up for you.  I don't know what it is, but I'm drawn to this type of pointy quilt.
Vickie also made this beautiful quilt from a panel available at the shop.
Chris said she had started this quilt years ago and finally finished it.  So cute.
Chris also made this ten minute (maybe she said one hour, I don't remember) table runner.  Wouldn't it make a lovely gift!
This is ...

Westside Modern Quilt Club July 2017 from Pine Needle Quilt Shop

Our meetings are pretty casual, and Geri seems to have a never ending cache of Oli and Lena jokes to start us off with a cheeky smile.

She also showed off some gorgeous digitally printed fabrics from P&B which we'll be restocking in September, and 100% wool dryer balls which are new to the store and perfect for fluffing up all your laundry without using dryer sheets. Geri also demonstrated that folding your quilts on the bias will help prevent creases and prolong the life of your quilts, especially when stored.

Next month (August) will be our annual ...

Prescription Medication from Ravelly1

I'll bet you thought I was going to talk about the high cost of meds these days. Nope, that's for another time.
Do you see that little brown tab I'm pointing to on the prescription bottle?  That tab was nearly the death of me.  No one told me that the prescription bottle tops were going to be changed to some new fangled thingy. I was just getting use to the push down hard while turning the bottle top method. Now this!!!!!
I tried the old way.
I tried pulling.
I tried chewing the darn thing off.
Mr ...

Westside Modern Quilt Club - June 2017 from Pine Needle Quilt Shop

Freshly back from four retreat sessions in Washington and Montana, Geri shared crazy country song titles in lieu of a joke. We imagine everyone who went on the retreats had a fun time riffing off the cowboy theme.

The August meeting will be at Millennium Park and we will share our challenge quilts. If you've made a challenge quilt, please download two copies of the entry form, one for Expo and one for our organizational purposes. There is no charge for your entry unless you want it judged or it needs special handling (rolled). At the July meeting we ...

More Quilt Show and Tell from Butterfly Threads

Seeing the joy on quilters' faces as the work on and finish my designs is the most rewarding part of my quilting experience by far! When a quilter takes a pattern or a design from my book, changes the colors or re-creates it in some way to make it her own unique quilt, I get giddy. I can't even put into words how much joy it brings me to know that I contributed to a fun and positive quilting experience for someone else. The quilt above is a bright cheerful version of Paper Chain found in Scrap Quilt Secrets ...

Crazy for Crazy Daisy from Butterfly Threads

How cute is my friend Carol Lewis with her version of Crazy Daisy? When I visit guilds I'm always thrilled to see quilts made from Scrap Quilt Secrets and this design was the cover quilt. I just adore her bright colors and energetic version of the quilt, it's like her personality!

This is my friend Millie's version. She added some really pretty hues of jewel tones and mixed them up with graphic prints as well as brights. Her fun version reversed the flower placement. I like that because it is unique just like Millie. She is wonderful ...

Georgia Celebrates Quilts! from Butterfly Threads

(My sweet friend Anne who was showing off the fun backing to her quilt!)

I had the pleasure of visiting the quilt show with friends on Thursday, and then I was in the Tiny Stitches booth briefly Friday morning. It was so wonderful to see so many friendly faces and quilters from every direction! I truly enjoyed everything about the show, but I must share some of my favorite quilts here with you. The information card for each quilt is shown below the quilt photo.

The name of this quilt made me smile as well as the bright colors and ...

No May WMQC from Pine Needle Quilt Shop

FYI, Westside Modern Quilt Club would normally meet on May 31st (the last wednesday of the month) but because our retreats are happening at about the same time, we won;t be having a meeting this month.

Please join us next month, on June 28th, when we'll be back to our regular schedule.

We're always interested in ideas for speakers or programs, so please let any of us Pinecones know what you want to see and hear.

Thanks!

The Legend of the Lick Skillet Quilt Guild from Butterfly Threads

Because you have asked where this wonderful name came from, I got the whole story for you and here it is...

Many years ago there was a small town in Alabama that was a frequent stopping point for folks traveling to and from Birmingham. It was a friendly little town that was known for it's hospitality. Hungry and weary travelers always knew they would be shown kindness upon their arrival. Now, the folks in this small town weren't necessarily wealthy, but they were generous. If anyone showed up at their door asking for food, even the most humble ...

One Scene, Five Points of View from Ravelly1

I recently went on retreat with my "wacky" girlfriends. Needless to say, we had a blast what with laughing, eating and girl bonding. There was a bit of sewing involved but mostly we were just so happy to be together. However, I did bring along a little project for everyone to try. The above photo is a close-up of an old tree trunk and in the background are trees, the lake and a bit of sky. I gave each "wacky" a photo and ask them, along with myself, to make a mini of what each saw. I brought along as ...

Ill share what they brought, you have seen mine here on the blog.

So here goes

Daytrippin' from From the Strawberry Patch...

Quiltdivajulie and me It took some doing; but, at long last, I can now say (with photo proof) that Quiltdivajulie and I are in-person friends! We've shared a LOT over the past ten years or so, all online, as blogging buddies. Over the years we discovered many similarities that we have in common: our birthdays are within days of each other (day and year!), our wedding anniversaries are too. We
