Sunday Stash July 18, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I had a Guild meeting on Zoom yesterday that lasted hours. I used the time to piece Waugh Street Christmas, the project using the Sweet Christmas charm pack.

There will be two more rows at the bottom.

When I was little we lived in an old frame house on Waugh Street. The house had the wide wood trim all around the doorways between rooms. At Christmas we would tape all the Christmas cards that came in the mail around the doorways in the living and dining rooms. The arrangement of the charm squares reminds me ...

The July 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month gone and two more projects finished. Time passes so quickly, or so it seems. Any month with finishes is a good month.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 6+ years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active categories.

Original Design – The group challenge with circles is moving to this category.

Other – I decided on the pattern to use with the Sweet charm pack, but haven’t ...

June 2021 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

It took some effort, but I finished the sew-in piece using the Victoria Findlay Wolfe technique. It decided it wanted to be a pillow after all.

The front and the back are different.

The technique isn’t as hard as it looks, but all the partial seams make it a bit fussy. I don’t see myself doing it again, but it stitched up fairly fast. I enjoyed making it and am pleased with the finished project.

I used all my batting scraps to stuff it, which cleared valuable shelf space in the sewing room. That was the best part ...

The June 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month come and gone and another list of projects to finish. I completed the Crazy Quilting Course (but didn’t frame it) and the Bonus Bunnies quilt in May. It feels good to be back at the sewing machine playing with fabric.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 6+ years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active categories.

Original Design – Open Dialogue has moved to the sewing ...

May OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

I finished the Bonus Bunnies quilt, my May OMG.

I made the quilt from the leftover scraps from this table runner.

I didn’t want any of the cute bunny fabric to spend years in the scrap bin. There was no pattern for the quilt. I just started piecing with what I had.

To see all the other OMG finishes, visit Elm Street Quilts.

The May 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished stitching Christmas Eve in April, but didn’t frame it. In spite of all the time spent on the Crazy Quilt Course, hours of work remain. That project feels like it will never end. Very little sewing happened in April.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 6+ years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active categories.

Original Design – Open Dialogue is still waiting to be quilted ...

April 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished the bunny runner last month, which was my OMG. It felt good to finally get one done. I also finished the star blocks (January OMG).

I have a couple more projects close to done and one small start. I’d be thrilled to get all three of those finished in April.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 6+ years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will not be listed, only active ...

March OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

The bunny runner is finished!

I planned to bind it in red, then realized if I used a neutral fabric I could make it reversible.

I’ve had this fabric a LONG time. Each of the seed packet motifs has wonderful graphics and whimsical sayings. Looking at it is too much fun to hide it on the back.

I’m linking to Elm Street Quilts for the OMG finish party. This is the first OMG I’ve completed this year.

February 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

January turned into one of those months when a whole lot of nothing got done. Best to put it behind me and move on.

Last month I talked about limiting active sewing projects to two, avoiding overwhelm. That didn’t happen either. Projects are everywhere. Again. I have a variety of projects to enjoy, depending on my mood.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, hand work, finishing, classes and other. I’ve used this system for 6+ years to keep me focused. The categories change as my goals and interests change. Categories with nothing in process will ...

Sunday Stash January 3, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

It always feels good to start the year with a clean slate.

My stats from last week held and I finished the year down 5.625 yards. I’ll take any year when I use more than I buy.

I’m back to working on the Stars in the Night BOM having figured out where I left off. I have three blocks ready to sew together. Only eight more stars to go, and then I can move on to month five.

The original quilt had a dark teal background, thus the name.

Expect to see a lot of this quilt ...

January 2021 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

New year, new projects, new approach.

I had a productive December with both a UFO and a garment finish. That means new additions to the list.

In 2021 I will keep the list shorter. In looking at finishes in comparison to 2020 goals, it was clear my goals were too ambitious. That pushed me to get a lot of projects done, but I don’t want to feel overwhelmed.

I also realized I need to limit the active sewing projects to two. I have a small cluttered sewing room, and if the projects exceed two I have to move everything ...

December OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

The last stitches went into Tribes this morning.

This quilt was a round robin from 2007 that sat in the UFO bin way too long. Everyone made a strip, and I couldn’t figure out how to make them all work together. The design wall was the key to figuring it out. I ended up slightly trimming two strips and adding length to two others. The most I changed any of them was adding a couple inches to my own strip. I also added the lime green on the sides.

Thanks to Beth, Denise, Gail and Sharon for contributing to ...

December 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

November was a fast month. Not sure how going to work and the grocery store and nowhere else eats up the days so quickly, but there you have it.

I finished the zigzag quilt in November and decided on a UFO to finish.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.

If I have nothing in process in a category I will leave it off the list. The list ...

Tribes from Quilt Paint Create

The round robin has become a completed top. In my mind this was harder than the reality of doing it.

The design wall made all the difference. It think Alex Anderson says visual decisions should be made visually, and she’s right. Once I could see all the pieces on the wall, the quilt made sense.

Time to move on to layering and quilting. We have a long holiday weekend here in the States. I expect to make good progress.

On that note, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating it. Although many of us will break tradition and not spend time ...

Sunday Stash November 22, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

Progress in the sewing room, but no change in the numbers.

I started working on an old UFO that was a round robin from 2007 or so, give or take a year. I couldn’t figure out how to get all the strips to work together. I’d been thinking about it for the past year and felt like it was time to get it finished.

In several different groups recently, design walls have come up as a discussion topic. I have one that I never use because it’s covered with notes, pictures and other miscellaneous ideas. I cleaned ...

November 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Time again to update the list for another month as we head into the holiday season. The weeks pass so fast. I always thought time would pass slower as I aged, but that’s not the case.

I finished Birds last month and another project that wasn’t on the list. With too many choices, I find it challenging to choose what to work on next.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I change the categories as ...

Sunday Stash November 1, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week.

I’m about half done quilting the zigzag quilt. I didn’t get any time on my sewing machine during the week and have to make up for it this weekend.

I expect to finish it in the next week or two, which will help the usage number.

Fabric In: 17.75

Fabric Out: 18.125 yards

Net Fabric Out: .375 yards

How did you do this week?

Thanks to everyone that has been linking up and leaving comments. I enjoy seeing all your wonderful projects. Some of you have used an incredible ...

Time Off And A Top from Quilt Paint Create

I have some time off this week. Sometimes vacation gets away from me, and I don’t get to everything I want to do. It’s best to avoid that by starting the day in the sewing room.

The zigzag top is together now.

I didn’t have a pattern for this quilt. My Guild put together packets for a charity quilting day in January 2019. My packet had a mix of white and children’s prints. We could sew them however we chose. The squares were either 12 or 12.5 inches.

Most of my prints were red, blue ...

The Long Haul from Quilt Paint Create

Almost two years later, the center of the zigzag top is all in one piece.

This weekend I plan to work on the borders. Talk about a project taking way longer than it should have. Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near the record.

I don’t know why this project dragged on. It’s bright, happy and an easy sew, plus I’ve wanted to try this pattern for years. It just didn’t speak to me.

Regardless, it now occupies the top of the priority list.

October OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

I finished Birds last night.

The quilt is an adaption of the pattern Blue Sky Birds from the book Tile Quilt Revival by Carol Gilham Jones. All the applique is by hand.

I started this quilt back in 2017. I didn’t get very far before I had to set it aside to pull fabrics together for a class. The class was a weekend trip, and I never did get back to Birds. I pulled it out earlier this year and switched out all the fabrics. I liked the new choices so much better, which made working on this quilt ...
