What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

 Oh My!  How time flies!  The last couple weeks have been a bit of a blur for me.  I can't believe in that whole time I didn't make one blog post.  Thanks to all who checked up on me.  And my apologies to those of you who kept checking for new posts but finding nothing.

We had our sew day event today (Saturday) and I just spent a couple hours putting everything away.  I am exhausted but I wanted to share about the day.

If you receive our newsletter, you know we have a lot of fundraising going on in April.  One of the events is a Sew Day - whose preparation has been keeping me busy!  One of the big benefits of these Sew Days is that they help us use up a lot of our scraps.  This spring, we will be making blocks for Veterans.

To ensure we have cut into strips all the RWB scraps we have acquired, I reorganized all the chunky scraps we have.  This took quite a bit of time!  But with any reorganizing endeavor, after it ...

 This week, I have gone back to cutting in preparation for a Sew Day Fundraiser we are having September 20th.  I will have more specific information soon.  I try to only do the cutting in spurts and then let my shoulders rest.  I have plenty of time to get it all prepared.

Our local guild’s small group held a sew day earlier this month to make items for our quilt show shoppe. One of the things we voted on as a group project was a sewing tool caddy, a really clever design. The design uses a flyer/photo stand that is 5×7-inches. I made mine in fabrics with a sewing theme with two background colors for contrast. I cut the main piece larger, as the pattern calls for pre-quilted fabric. Our guild has smaller groups that gather for fun during the month in addition to our overall meeting. This month, our gathering was for an all day sew-in to make pillowcases for Safelight. Many of us had made some at home before the meeting, so we began with collecting those. The black and white print ones I made are in the stack on the left.

We had our business meeting, which went very fast, then I presented a program on matching colors for quilts. We had a fun time with everyone bringing some fabrics, and looking at what someone else ...

This past week was a busy one, with four meetings, a field trip to Black Mountain, a couple of pickleball games, and a sew day with friends here. It was lovely to have a private retreat, with chatting and sewing most of the day, celebrating friendship with a dear friend who is moving away this month. I started out by undoing some of the sewing I did during the international bloggers Zoom call. I had put borders on a Quilt of Valor, and I hated them. Then they were laid aside for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season

and my sewing machine was covered.

Today my machine is uncovered and ready for my first sewing day in 2022.

I had a great sew day Saturday with our guild. I planned on starting a new project that came recently from Missouri star. I don't remember how I saw this kit, but, I think it was on you tube. The charm squares are from Africa as a free enterprise sort of cooperation with Missouri Star, I don't have anything like this, it looked easy, and it was something new. 

Saturday was an all day sew day. And, I used the time to work on my grassy creek mystery quilt from quiltville. It seemed harmless enough... 25 sets of matching  blah blah blah. I didn't cut the pieces until the morning of, so, I didn't have a lot of time to think through the math. I just cut a bunch. I spent 3 hours sewing the pieces, and, I still wasn't done. 25 sets was actually 400 pieces. hmmm. I chained pieces in their sets, which was a little fiddley. I cut them after each set. 

We had a sew day, Saturday, and, I took grassy creek mystery quilt clue #1 as a project. I had 1/2 of the sets cut, and, I cut the rest while I was there. I managed to get them all sewn. I didn't trim them until I was home in the evening. I pressed them, and counted them, and was short a couple of sets. I have them done now. May I say, again, as I did last year, I don't like the matchy matchy way of making a scrappy quilt.

 The CQG had a sew day on the 17th of this month. Eight or ten people showed up with different projects to work on. I even brought Marley and "her" machine since she had the day off from school. 

Everyone thought it was just the best thing to see a young one enjoying sewing. She worked on a simple one patch baby quilt to donate to the CQG to be sold at our next quilt show. The plan is to have several small quilts, donated by members, that will sell and all profits will go to CQG to fund some ...

Checking the mail this week has been fun, with wonderful blocks arriving for the National Sew Day.  Tomorrow, From My Carolina Home is hosting a Quilts of Valor Sew-In at Beginnings Quilt Shop in Hendersonville, NC, an all day event to make blocks and tops for Quilts of Valor.  We’ll have refreshments, and hourly door prizes!  Plus Beginnings will open early at 9 am, and have a special sale that day too.  If you are local, come in to see!!
