Sunday Meditation: 1 Peter 4:8-11 from Patchwork Sampler Blog

1 Peter 4

8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 4:8-11

What better day than Valentine’s Day ...

A New Experience for 2021 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The new year is just about here and I have been working making plans for what I want to do in 2021.  There is one thing I have always been intrigued with after a friend was telling me about a Quilt Along she was doing.  Each month she read a chapter for a book and made a quilt block...Both were a mystery of course!

So I am all signed up for A Pattern for Murder - one of Annie's Mystery Quilt Stitch Alongs!

I think the first chapter comes out in January but we were sent the material requirements ...

How to Free Motion Quilt a Sampler Quilt from Blossom Heart Quilts

As many of you know, I took a 3-month hiatus from work obligations and deadlines and it was amazing. During that time, in between supervising home learning and my one hour a day of legally-permitted time outside the house, I was able to work on a special passion project that was to become Women of Advent. I had no idea at the time just how much this quilt was to become a symbol of hope in 2020 for myself and many others too. It became a daily reminder that through all that life throws in our way, there is a ...

Sampler quilt with stars made by three friends from Pieced Brain

Sampler quilt with stars made by three friends

Choose your favorite star blocks, a fabric collection, and make a sampler quilt with stars like we did. Exchange blocks once a month!

I am calling this my Friendship Star quilt! Deb, Lisa, and I agreed to work with the Gretel fabric collection by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs. I love Amy’s fabrics! Deb suggested our blocks should be 12″ stars, any stars we liked. So, we met every month or so to exchange the blocks we made.

We would choose a design, make three blocks of it, and share. We each had purchased a fat quarter bundle ...

Mystery Sampler Quiilt from Jan's Quilts

I'm very happy with this quilt top. I took some orphan blocks that have been hanging around, added some Blocks of the Month from my quilt guild, and this is what I got. I'm calling it a Mystery Sampler Quilt because I really didn't know how it was going to turn out.   I love the star binding!

Started on May 30, 2020
Finished on August 21, 2020
It measures 60 x 72".

NEW Time Lapse Sampler Quilt from Quilts + Color

I created this top from leftover blocks from a quilt I made for our bed years ago. I taught the blocks in a lecture demo class so made extras of most of them.
It is 78 x 64 inches.

Free quilt block patterns for a sampler quilt

If you subscribe to my newsletter you are getting free quilt block patterns for a sampler quilt. They are all 12-inch blocks and come with instructions for speedy construction. I have designed 5 exclusive blocks already and here they are.

This is block 1. I decided to make them all this weekend using the fat quarters I have from the Gretel collection (by Riley Blake Designs) that I am using on another project – you know, the one with the star quilt blocks my friends Deb, Lisa, and I are slowly making. Since I have two fat quarter bundles, I think ...

Voting By Mail from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The post for my finish this week got pushed out to next week, so today I am sharing the newest block I made for my Vote quilt.

I really didn't have a firm plan for this block.  I started by cutting some 1" strips and I made the letters.  Then I just added enough fabric around it to trim it into the diamond shape I needed.  The rest of the block was just a matter of sewing on pieces and trimming them up to the look I wanted.

I live in the state of Oregon in the US.  Here ...

Sampler Mystery Quilt from Jan's Quilts

I'm very happy with this quilt top.  I took some orphan blocks that have been hanging around, added some Blocks of the Month from my quilt guild, and this is what I got.  I'm calling it a Mystery Quilt because I really didn't know how it was going to turn out.  It measures 60 x 72".

Now to figure out the quilt back, plus I've had a request for more masks!  My friend is in her nineties, 95, I think, and she was one of the first people I called to see if she wanted a ...

Busy, busy, busy! from Jan's Quilts

Well, I have been busy sewing blocks; just not busy posting them!  Most of these were made with leftover bits and pieces from other projects.  The trees and the barns are the exceptions.  I've been making these to add to the other blocks I've made in conjunction with the Charity Quilt Project my guild does.  Each month a member presents a block for the other members to make and donate to the project.  Every month I made 4 blocks, 2 to donate and two to keep.

This group is the exception.  I'm keeping 4 of these and ...

Breezy Quilt, #2 from Jan's Quilts

While making the Breezy #1 quilt top, I thought it'd be fun to have more colors in the background.  For Breezy #1, I used Kona Windsor and Coty.  For Breezy #2, I used Kona Turquoise, Chartreuse, Citrus, Red, and Surf.  Thank heavens for a fabric stash!

This is a fun finish for me.  Each month I make 4 quilt blocks, 2 to donate to my quilt guilds' Charity BOM project, and 2 to keep for quilts like this one.  One of the blocks in this quilt are from a class I took at Quiltcon a couple of years ago ...

Breezy, Quilt #1 from Jan's Quilts

This is a fun finish for me.  Each month I make 4 quilt blocks, 2 to donate to my quilt guilds' Charity BOM project, and 2 to keep for quilts like this one.  Three of the blocks in this quilt are from a class I took at Quiltcon a couple of years ago.  The quilt back is made from fabric I purchased; I thought it was printed madras patchwork.  So much for thinking, it's actually pieced; lots of squares of madras sewn together.

May your bobbins always be full,

Pandora's Box from Sew Preeti Quilts

Paul: There is a lot going on here.
Me: Yup. Do you like it?

A new finish

Paul: It kinda works.
Me: Doesn't it?
Paul: What is this one called?
Me: Pandora's Box.

Orphan Blocks

Paul was shocked!!!  He proceeded to relate the story where all the monsters (death and sickness) were unleashed and all that was found at the bottom of the box was Hope.

Gathered and Captured

I tried to (somewhat calmly) explain. I did not open the Pandora's Box. I did not release the monsters. I captured them and put them back in the ...
