It wasn't a bad week, I just had way too much on ...
read morethe prompt was Kite blocks... I started with a search online to see them, and for my whimsical house piece decided to make them look like kites, and used blue sky scraps (Thanks, RSC!) plus scrap triangles from feedsack fabrics
I did them improvisationally. cut a rectangle from a blue scrap, then cut that in half on an angle both directions. Now to add a triangle that meets on the tips after sewingI spent a lot of time in the sewing room this weekend playing catch up with the 2025 Stay At Home Round Robin (Quilting Gail).
Last time I posted about this project only two sides of border #4 were finished and attached. I did finish all the log cabin blocks for border #5.
The drive home from Texas was mostly uneventful. But it's a long time to be in the car, it's a 9 hour drive. The worst part was the heavy fog from College Station to Waco, thankfully there wasn't much traffic. But I was pretty tired when I pulled into the driveway. I ended up in bed a good hour before my normal bedtime last night, but feel much better this morning.
I got in several solid days of stitching time last week, but because I was so behind on my priority projects (projects with deadlines), I didn ...

Starting with project quilting's prompt, "inspired by your birthstone color" For me it's

I started with collecting inspiration photos online, and printing them onto one sheet of paper.

I'm finally feeling better. Which is good as this week I'm in Texas visiting Grad Girl. The timing was dictated by a concert we both wanted to attend. It's been a girls "week" as several of Grad Girl's college friends also came down for the concert. I feel very fortunate to be included. The concert was last night and we didn't get back till almost 1 AM. Definitely not my normal hours. The friends left after lunch, but I'm staying through the weekend to have some hang out time with my girl.
The early ...
read moreI noted in my Stitching Stuff post that not much got done this week. That included any progress on the 2025 SAHRR,
I was able to finish off all the Friendship Star blocks from border 3 and worked out a plan for week 4.
still trying to live a creative life, and this is a mention of this week's work... glad you're here!
the pic above is my latest finished embroidery. I learned to make tassel flowers, very wild and 3-d
more about the embroidery in a minute, but first my stay at home round robin nest row was slice into a block and insert a new fabric. It was a hard pain week so I took it easy on the creative front. I did a sliced insert in an X thinking it would look like a trellis... well....

this is my entry for Project Quilting this week, the prompt was to take three traditional blocks in the common usage and make a finished quilt. I took out my scrap bags of Cherrywood hand dyes to use thinking I'd make a sketchbook cover. My bags have strips from a half inch wide to 2" wide.
I made a sawtooth star, put a log cabin around it (taking into consideration two values on each row) and made my improv flying geese for the top and bottom. I loved it and thought of all the things I ...
read moreIt hasn't been the best week on a number of fronts. I've got some type of respiratory infection that's been ramping up for the last week. Yesterday was pretty much a recliner/couch/bed day. My nose is sore from all the blowing, my chest hurts from all the coughing, and my head hurts. With all that going on, my sewing room time hasn't been wonderful this last week.
To Do List for 02/04/2025

read moreIt's been one of those weeks where I ended up with less stitching time then normal. So I'm a bit behind on Round #3 for the SAHRR. This week's prompt of "stars" was posted by Quilting Gail.
I had hoped to play catch up this weekend, but I forgot that I was judging Science Fair this weekend, so there went most of my Saturday. I've made good progress, but it takes a while to make 30 3.5" Friendship Stars.
The plan is for two borders of blue stars and 2 borders of the green/blue ...
read moreUsually January feels so slothful, the days drag and the month feels like it goes on forever. Not this year. I'm amazed to find we've reached the end of the first month of the year. It will speed up from here, so 2025 is set to move fast it seems.
Starting paragraph
The prompt for round #2, half square triangles, can be found at Anja Quilts.
Half square triangles are versatile little blocks. I played around in EQ, ran a couple of options past Grad Girl and finally settled on this version.
Not the most original border, but it works OK. I'm ready for prompt #3 coming out on Monday.
The 2025 SAHRR was also my Chookshed Challenge project for January. My goal was to get the center and first prompt finished. I've actually finished the second prompt so definitely met my goal for the month.
