My creative week... watching paint dry, and sewing, and taking a workshop from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to this week's creativity round up! I finished up the painting workshop with two portraits. I feel I learned so much and like both my paintings a lot. Thank you to our teachers!

this was a lesson of layering. It's a version of Gaia... and I love it. It reminds me of paintings on the plaster walls of Herculaneum in Italy, and I only hope I can remember the steps to try it again. I took some screen shots of the process, so... I like the color blending, the way her shirt looks, the stenciled flowers in ...

Being creative this week: watching paint dry, finishing a quilt, finishing a quilt top, and relearning to knit from Not Afraid of Color

yea! the pear quilt is done, binding, and sleeve.

pattern is old,

pattern download HERE: https://store.figtreeandcompany.com/Mini_Canned_Pears_Downloadable_p/992e.htm

I learned following a pattern has it's place. I work originally usually but while I'm coping with pain a pattern is a blessing. I get to choose fabrics and quilting designs etc.

a mix of walking foot, and free motion
I learned that subtle colors are still colorful. I used little yellow scraps and they look so pretty...

her method for the checkerboard border is not as easy as the one I used, but they finish ...

gotta create! nothing finished to share but ... progress counts! from Not Afraid of Color

one set of drawers for threads
As happens in the life of a creative type, this is a week where lots of progress is made but nothing finished. The drawer unit above sits in studio one, the main sewing room. I got the little magnet of Emily Dickenson was bought years ago on a trip, the felt peeps wait, the artists model holds the requisite tiaras.

I worked this week on my tumbling block quilt, sewing in the half hexies along the side, two to go, then time to quilt. The new color of the month at RSC is aqua ...

creativity round up for the week... from Not Afraid of Color

the addition is an improv flying geese row at top

I spent my creative time in my studio  this week

When I want to spend time in my happy place but If I can't focus on sewing, I sort... this time sorted paper piecing pattern copies collection.

I looked through three books to come up with border ideas for my sunflower piece. I wasn't excited by any of them though...

I looked through my stash to choose fabrics to set off the sunflower piece.

I googled medallion quilts for ideas on how to set my sunflower piece...! All ...

and still I must create.... sunflowers from Not Afraid of Color

this was a perfect project for this week. Paper piecing pattern, extremely well done and organized!

I  copied the actual patterns, cut them out, arranged them and put dabs of tape so they wouldn't confuse me

I used colored pencil to make general color notes by scribbling in the sections.

one by little one I made the sections according to my ability to concentrate this week. After they were pieced, I put them back in place.

re-taping them to the whole

Saturday I sewed the small sections together, according to the organized list given by the pattern maker, Quilt ...

red nines from Making A Lather

I have neglected my rsc quilt diffussion for a few months. I almost forgot to look at the list, again, this month, to realize that I need red 9 patches for it, too. I did a quick search through my red 2 inch strips and found several shorter pieces. I was able to make 25 or so 9 patches and I think that is the end of red for me and the rainbow scrap challenge this month.

Diffusion is a quilted twins free pattern that is simple 9 patches. I am cutting in fall colors with 2 inch strips. The ...

watching paint dry and embellishing quilt blocks from Not Afraid of Color

I'm struggling with physical challenges but wanted to feel normal... know what I mean? Feeling normal means painting, writing and quilt making to me... so this in a nutshell is what was made this week.

mostly in pictures.... can't be at computer for long but connecting with my art peeps keeps me feeling human.

Love my metallic watercolor set from fine-tec
I did two icads this week,  small artwork on a 4" X 5" index card, the first prompt was wabi-sabi, a Japanese term that sort of means imperfection, impermanence, are to be valued... if you repair an ...

watching paint dry and hand stitching a bit from Not Afraid of Color

not much this week, I've been getting poor health care and am in too much pain to do much. No details, just know my heart is in creativity but my body is in crisis.

I was looking for something online and saw a stylized woman somewhere, so I tried to paint her. The stabilo crayon bled so much it made her look gray but...I liked the wallpaper I created

coloring book page

random index card art done over scrap paper glued to it

Index card ICAD prompt millefleur   I love pigma pen size 10 for bold distinct lines ...

watching paint dry plus stitching one little fabric to another until it's done from Not Afraid of Color

I did a lot of medicinal arting this week.... you know about bodies turning on you don't you? Welcome to this week's artful round up...starting with one of the index card prompts which I got quite behind on...

I usually do the day's prompt in the morning but I ended up having to catch up a bit doing four at once

she encouraged us to use printed script this week while doing the daily prompts. Generally I need to stay away from chemicals so I love watercolor, pencil, pen and ink. These can be interpreted in ...

My creative week... quilting plus watching paint dry and sketching from Not Afraid of Color

Another week at chez LeeAnna was spent in the pursuit of art and color!!! Sometimes it was an effort to escape physical pain, sometimes an effort to learn a new skill or just see color move across paper

I signed up for Tamara LaPorte's week long painting workshop... sometimes I was inspired to try it sometimes I opted to just hear part of the videos. The first image is poppies done in watercolor, using my kuretaki paints, and my new tube of daniel smith opera pink

I didn't follow her instructions to use masking fluid. I didn't ...

my creative week a little inking, a lot of sewing from Not Afraid of Color

On Sunday last, while chatting with my friend Cindy on FT, we had a 2 person stitching session.

you may remember this is the table scraps challenge piece I finished but for the hand embroidery.. it's now done! On the bedside table and I LOVE how it came out looking like a sketch done with thread!

no marking tools seemed to work to transfer this coloring book page so I ended up cutting it out, and tracing around it onto my finished quilt, with silver colored pencil.

That gave me the basic outline and propoprtions

I used #8 precensia ...

lucky star block from Making A Lather

I am finished with orange for the rainbow scrap challenge in May.  I made 3 orange stars from batiks to add to the stars I have been doing this year. I made them this morning. I am just getting up too early any more.

The Spring flowers have been beautiful this year. The pink roses are from my Grandmother's garden. I rescued them when I was a child. They are blooming this year just like the year I fell in love with them as a young girl. In front of the them are dame's rocket which is one ...

my creative week fast stitching, slow stitching drawing , painting and some learning too from Not Afraid of Color

it's been a week of learning (Zen Stitch workshop online) and making

Drawing faces and flowers, painting on paper and fabric, designing an Autumn quilt, trying techniques new to me like setting shisha mirrors and stacking straight stitches in embroidery. Trying some stitches in a slightly different way than I've done them before, using my supplies, getting new supplies...

Toward the end of the week I just watched the lessons and stored up plans to try them later because my mind was full. (plus the occular migraines take a lot out of me)

I often try out ideas ...

orange diffusion from Making A Lather

Orange is the color for the rainbow scrap challenge in May, and, it is a great color for my fall quilt project, diffusion. Diffusion is a quilted twins free pattern. I still haven't decided if I am graduating the background color, yet. But, I can still make 9 patches, and, decide later. I am making my 9 patches using 2 inch strips. It wasn't hard to find orangey little scraps. Finding longer ones, was the problem. Still, I spent a lovely morning sewing strip sets, until, I had a large pile.

I am grateful to have an accuquilt ...

fishy from Making A Lather

I made 25 orange fish school blocks for May's rainbow scrap challenge. I am aiming for 320. I am a 2/3 of the way there.

Hubby found this neat mushroom outback, and, we had a yummy mess of mushroom for dinner. We have never collected this before, and it was huge.

my creative week from Not Afraid of Color

this was a week of sewing, writing, and watching video lessons... with one drawing

hand sewing hexies, tiny quiltlets from scraps, and one drawing

the sewing primarily was "middle sewing"  involving a lot of putting blocks together, basting a quilt, finding appropriate fabrics, making design decision that take time but don't show well in a round up.

I now have completed the squares for two RSC block sets made last year... I added an entire row of black and white squares to go with the colorful scrap blocks done last year, but like the first set I'm reluctant ...

A Fishy Story - Pattern Release & Giveaway from Sew Preeti Quilts

It was a heavy lift. The net was bursting with a huge catch.

It took a lot of effort to haul it out of the river.

Ooh it is heavy...

The fish wriggled and pulled against the net and Paul struggled.

Paul struggled

I heaved a huge sign of relief when he prevailed.

And finally managed!

Such a proud angler Paul is!!! Now, you may think that catching all these fish on the banks of Potomac is a load of bull. But honestly, it is a fishy story :-D

The one that got away...

Well, here is the true back ...

My creative week was full of color! from Not Afraid of Color

I remember now! I love painting!

I have enjoyed a week of Sketchbook revival video lessons this week and it continues with terrific teachers.... I won't share it all this week, but opened with one lesson in freeing yourself up to color that can be used by any artist.

I will share some of my quilting after this because I enjoy many mediums...

The teacher for that project is Helen Wells.

>Draw an organic blobby shape, >then over that a zigzaggy shape. >then draw a line from top of page to bottom, and one from side to side. Look ...
