I have just a few things to share with you this week starting with one of my two rainbow scrap challenge blocks this year. The color focus is on orange scraps this month, and using them.
I chose 4 duos this week, cut them into 2.5" strips, sewed cut sewed cut sewed them into blocks of orange
Orange covers a large spectrum of color, from yellow orange to pink orange (coral)The block above came from this book
on the sewing front, I needed to see color sewn to color, repeat. I got out the blue scraps that are exceptionally small and started sewing...

I thought, I love foundation piecing, why not just do some really small (2") blocks, mindless right? I didn't count on the intensity of dealing with such small seam allowances and strips of fabric 1/2" wide. I completed two blocks and moved on.
sewing to paper is a good idea for me now, can't use ...

mostly in pictures.... can't be at computer for long but connecting with my art peeps keeps me feeling human.

My creativity this week was challenged by physical pain... sometimes creative time takes me out, but sometimes nothing can take pain away. Know what I mean?
the painting above was done in small format of index card, as it's fairly fast. I watched a tutorial by Creative Cove. I started with what was left of a mailing label for the post office, printed on sticky backed label paper. Rather than toss it, I pulled off enough to cover the index card and began painting with watercolors and a bamboo brush.

read moreWelcome to this week's creative offerings... The image above is from one of my embroidery workshops, and it was a full week of lessons, 9 a day for 5 days... the embroidery summit. I couldn't do them all of course, but tried to print patterns and watch techniques from most.
I seriously hurt my back/spine alignment, trying to finish the binding hand sewing on this quilt last Sunday. It's done when the hand work is done but it's bulky and heavy to work on so... can't do much now.
I let the index cards ...

I am highly inspired by the Index Card a Day (ICAD) challenge prompts. The first week we had 7 prompts and were asked to focus on using mark making tools. The second week has 7 more prompts and we're encouraged to use collage. All my cards are 4" X 6" and unruled. (like me)
the card above, was interpreting "treble clef" and I used a stabilo crayon and water brush, red pigma pen. That's the card my engineer/musician husband likes best and wants framed in his office... nice compliment ...

I searched google images and found a rooster with his mouth open... telling us to wake up! and I see that as very appropriate for our country this morning
I copied the image the size I needed, colored over the back with stabilo crayon, then placed it face up over the index card and drew the lines I wanted as reference. This is for personal use.
I painted it with KOI watercolors, my waterbrush, used staedtler fineliners for lines and lettering in my own font.
